You really captured all the best traits of our beloved trail. Fall is definitely the best time to hike it. If you want a real challenge come back in June. Mosquitoes and ticks are nearly apocalyptic lol
You hiking videos are my favorite on youTube. I do sort of miss the more sequential videos where each episode sees you move further along the trail. These SHT videos felt a little like recaps of the overall hike each episode. Feedback only meant with the best intentions, please keep it up!
I get it! I think a different kind of trail and I would have done more like that. You know like what is the challenge, going through it, and overcoming it (hopefully). The SHT is just a fun hike, from start to finish. Which is the beauty! But if I do the Hayduke next year or the CDT for instance, I think there's much more of a story for me surrounding hikes like those.
Thanks for making these lovely videos Jupiter. The SHT is really fun in winter too, although it's harder to stay ultralight. Can't wait to see what else you have in store for us in 2024!

The shots of Sprocket on the scooter remind me of a bike riding scene from the movie, “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”. They both have a happy, carefree feeling. Nice job with this series. I hope you’re staying warm in Canada this winter.
Happy you had such a great time on the SHT! It’s the trail that I rediscovered backpacking almost 10 years ago and led to me hiking the PCT last year. Hiking the SHT is like going home! I was like a day behind you guys during my section hike in late September/early October. Cheers!
I grew up in Duluth and on lake superior ❤ I always think of Lake Superior as a powerful mother. Also it was awesome to see your experience of the area.thank you

Hi. Enjoyed the scenery of this trail. The fall colors remind me of a hike I did on the AT in central Virgina, I caught the colors at peak, was a real blessing. God Bless!
Great videos! You're right...wonderful trail and perfect for beginners. For my first ever long hike I did the northern 2/3 and then turned west on the Border Route Trail (which I highly recommend...amazing views of the Boundary Waters). Only downside is since most of it is in the BW, you need be sure to enter on the permit date.
That will depend on some environmental factors like if this summer is wet or more of a drought. Less rainfall would lead to colors changing sooner. The other thing that would matter is your pace, if you're going to hike the whole trail in two weeks... then yeah you're probably early for colors and might miss them. If it will take you closer to a month then I bet you'll see quite a bit! In the end it's hard to estimate these things as no year is the same
This was the Sony ZV-E10 with a 28-60mm lens. I got it new like two days before the hike, so my website may not have that reflected yet! It's a great camera and I super super enjoyed it over what I used previously. Though a little bit heavier, the bump in quality is multitudes better
Yeah, that one. The camera itself is great, but the lens (although extremely lightweight) is moderately annoying to use. I am considering getting the sigma 18-50mm or something else instead. I am torn currently between *super ultralight* vs *better quality*. A random 14mm prime lens would be just about as light as it gets, while something like the sigma 18-50 is slightly heavier but would offer the potential for way better videos. So I dunno yet
@@JupiterHikes I was thinking that the best of both worlds (but of course not the lightest choice) would be a wide angle, prime lens that would give you a lower F stop to handle low light conditions and a zoom much like you have for a little more versatility for wildlife and scenery when light level is not an issue. Some of your brethren RUclipsrs seem to solve that trade off by using a GoPro combined with a very good camera, such as you have, with a zoom lens. Either way, your quality of videography is already very high and I have really enjoyed your recent postings from your hikes this year. Thanks for all of the work involved in taking us along.
Congrats on the hike and great vid serices! FYI, You might like the Norwegian Mesh Base Layers by Brynje. Pairs nicely under a Peloton 97...caused us to rethink layering. Take care
The SHT extension to Wisconsin is to serve North Country Trail hikers, on their way across the UP of Michigan. I'd love to get out there and walk from the Boundary Waters to Mackinac.

What a year! I am planning on hiking the SHT this fall and would like to catch peak fall color also, What dates did you do the hike?

Great video series. Some of my earliest camping memories are at Jay Cooke State Park, including the suspension bridge.
