My husband and I picked March 1st 2021 as our first day RVing 95% full time. Then Life happened and I was diagnosed with breast cancer in Feb 2021. We did a few mini trips, but knew everything would stop soon. After a months of this and that appts and major surgery I am 100% cancer free. Now we are trying to decide when our next selected date to carry on our dream of RVing full time.

6/26/20 was my first Shakedown Trip - and first night staying in the RV! I live in TX and headed south then looped back up for about a 1 month mini trip. Then I left in Aug & headed West - north to south and all in between. Came home for about 2 months - pet sitting & working to help friends. Then took off to the East! I made it back to TX to help other friends in March 2022 - and wanted to do all my Dr., Dentist, etc visits. Well, that's when I found out I had breast cancer too. I've been staying with a friend for about 9 months now! Two operations, 4 Chemos, 20 Radiations, and who knows how many dr visits & tests that were done! I am hopefully cancer free!!!!!! More tests need to be done in March, so I'm planning to get back on the road and head West again in April. I'm getting excited and so looking forward to it! I full time by myself. I'll take it easy - go slowly - and enjoy the RV life once again! Tammy Picket I hope you are doing well, stay cancer free, and enjoy the RV life too. No rush - enjoy the journey!

We retired in 1995, hubby turned 45...our goal was 40. We travelled in the coach for 3 years, invested in income properties which were paid off in less than 5 years. When he turned 50 we started to travel on motorcycles all over the USA. When my mom began to need more care...we stayed closer to home, I went back to work so that we didn't have to spend savings for medical insurance coverage. In 2013 we divorced, sold our forever home of 40 years, I bought his ownership portion of the rentals. Bought a used RV so that I can do weekend escapes until I retire again. Love traveling in my personal home (RV)!

You hit the nail on the head. We started full time April 2022 after 5 years of planning. We sold everything and have learn a lot of tips by watching your videos. Thank you! I have traveled via air for the last twenty years and (don’t laugh) the only thing I would not get rid of is my massive collection of Starbucks mugs. We spend a month in one place then move to the next as the wind takes us (We love getting to travel to the 3 places our adult children live the most! We would never get to see them as often as we do without this lifestyle!) I have always worked remotely so the move to the road was no big deal. My wife retired from teaching, but hopes to find some side job to do on the road eventually. I over spent on my internet with top end hardware and data plans to ensure connectivity. I learned it was not necessary and now use Starlink and a cheap Verizon and ATT as a back up plan. We are only 7 months in and don’t regret the switch. Went from 3000 sq. ft. to 400. Every night we say how much we love our tiny home!!

There are many different ways to approach full-time RV life. For years I’d scoffed at those crazy people who sold it all and hit the road, never dreaming that I’d ever be one! But then we bought a travel trailer in 2016 to just go camping as the whole “going out to the bathroom in the middle of the night” thing just wasn’t very fun anymore. Did at least 1 2-week trip each year and many shorter trips, which gave us the first notion that full-time RV living really might not be so bad and could be viable for us. We absolutely loved traveling with our trailer! So when we started the wife’s retirement planning in earnest we also did a deep dive into evaluating whether or not to try full-time RV life and the conclusion was YES, we want to do this! My wife gave a 1-year retirement notice to her employer in March 2020 and we started searching for our retirement rig, which our pull-behind trailering experience led us to conclude was a large 5th wheel trailer. Quickly we learned that our 3/4 ton truck was too small for our needs and spent 2 months finding the right 2 year old 1-ton dually truck. Then we engaged a “trailer concierge” to help us sell our 4 year old trailer and find a new rig. His industry knowledge was invaluable to steering us toward options that were truly suitable for full-time living. With his advice, our trailer sold to a private party within 4 hours of listing for 90% of the original purchase price (much more than we’d expected!) and his final negotiations on our new rig with the dealer saved us another $5K. Nothing but praise for his counsel and advice! So we picked up our new rig from the dealer at the end of June 2020 and decided on the 500 mile drive home to sell the house sooner rather than after retirement and picked October as the magic date. We sold the house and everything in it - 3 huge garage sales and a final estate sale to clear all the big furniture and last of the house goods - and moved into the rig October 17, 2020. This was absolutely the rip-off-the-bandaid approach to downsizing, but it worked well and was best for us. Challenging to be sure, but no regrets. And our 3 adult kids all were excited for us and actually thanked us for getting rid of all that stuff! We knocked around local RV parks for 5 months while the wife finished up working and 4 days after her official retirement in late March 2021 we hit the road, heading north for a long-scheduled service appointment for miscellaneous minor warranty work. Which was a good thing, as we made it almost 20 miles down the road that first day before the bottom fell out of the rig due to an undiscovered water leak… but with the help of a great mobile technician we were patched up and back on the road in about 3 hours. In these 2+ years of full-time RV living it’s been an amazing journey that has really only just begun. We’ll finish our first full circumnavigation of the USA this coming March, and should visit our final state in the lower 48 by July 2023. We love the road and the RV lifestyle and will continue as long as we physically can. Looking forward to meeting you sometime on down the road.

I watched a video that recommended to Either staring sleeping in your RV in your driveway or a
nearby camp ground to get used to camping and find out what you need in the RV that you may
    not have thought about.
Then as you get used to it plan trips further away and for longer periods of time.
The more you get out the more your able to by or purge.
Always keep two rolls of quarters for laundry, and vending machines in case of a craving.
Zip lock laundry soap in load sizes,
Keep well stocked first aid kit, heavy trauma band aids and gauze.

We sold our house and started full-time in our new 5th wheel RV on Oct 14, 2022. You two have been our primary source for tips on RV living so we thank you much for your service to the RV community! We are both retired but I still work part-time on contract for the company I retired from. We stayed in our home state in Ohio in state parks to wrap things up there before leaving, but we pushed it late into the cold part of the season and started experiencing our first cold temperatures and even snow fall. Luckily our RV is a new design and seems to handle the cold temps really well. We're headed south right now to Florida and will spend the winter there.
As for purging and downsizing, we made the mistake of doing that within a months time! We had a 2800 sq ft house. Most of our stuff was put in a storage unit. We sold some stuff in a garage sale and to the home buyers, donated to Good Will, and threw away other stuff. It was a nightmare, but we got through it!
We are Steve and Perri and we have our own small travel channel called Adventures Ever After which we'll most likely be transitioning content and posting our own full-time RV living adventures there. Maybe we'll get to meet you in person someday!

My wife and I went full time about 4 months ago. The hardest thing was getting rid of all the stuff we had and the house we had lived in for 16 years. My mother who had lived with us passed and our youngest son who lived with us bought his own house so we decided to down size and move into a smaller house. We love to travel and spent a lot of our travel time on a motorcycle. (our last motorcycle had 133,000 miles on it when we sold it). The motorcycle was the one hardest thing it was for me to sell. I've been riding motorcycles for over 50 years but because of my age finally decided to give it up instead of getting a toy hauler. Also my wife nor I really liked the floor plan of the toy haulers. We are in Missouri and will be until after thanksgiving then we start heading south to warmer weather. We do have a plan to go back into a sticks and bricks when or if we get tired of the RV life.

We sold our house and hit the road in June 23, 2020. We are both retired. Our goal is to visit every state. Usually we stay at places a week or more. Sometimes we need more time if we need a break. I never realized how much work it is to plan and decision fatigue is real. The worst part for my husband was selling most of his tools. We love the RV life but have decided to find a home after our third year and after visiting all of the lower 48 states. We want to continue to travel in our RV, just not full time.

I have been full-timing for 15 months and can’t imagine ever going back…even after two Canadian Winters! I used to be handy. Now I am REALLY handy. The biggest frustration: finding out that Lithium batteries don’t charge below freezing! The solution (after hours of inspection and emailing the solar manufacturers and battery manufacturers): a $50 heating belt. Runs off your generator or inverter and raises your batteries’ core temp above the freezing point so they will accept a charge from the panels. Can’t wait to host you guys up in Canada, this year.

It has worked well for us, it may not be for everyone but when I retired I wanted one more adventure and boy is this it! Love your channel hope to someday meet you both, take care of the best, Tim..

Full time as of 8-Jun-22 once we both retired and rig came off the production line. Started planning and downsizing almost 4 years prior, while still working. Even so, we still had more “stuff” that we thought we’d need/use, but haven’t touched yet. Downsizing is an ongoing effort. We didn’t know what we didn’t know, until we knew. 😁

We put over 20k miles on our well maintained bumper hitch in 6 years. We loved it. Many week long trips , several 2 week trips, a 12 night nomad trip, 2 6 week traveling trips.
Husband retired early, we rested and apent time with friends and family for a year. Then started to olan a year on the road. Within a week our beloved camper was stolen off our property in the middle of the night on December 1. We are now searching for a new rig. Excited to make a sound purchase and activate our travel plans, hopefully between April 1st and September 1st.

Oh boy. I thot I was good to go. I had watched video after video. In my past life at one time or another, I had 5th wheels, a gas motorhome and a diesel pusher, so I thought I was a-ok. Then I hit the road & OMG!! So much anxiety, stress, apprehension, you name the emotion- it was front and center. I wanted to quit instantly. Every drive day I was a bundle of nerves. But, after 2 months things have eased back a bit. It’s still nerve wracking, but it’s getting better. I will say I’ve already decided (87%) I need/want a different set up. I signed up for a Rally before I hit the road and just finished it. It is something I would recommend a new full timer do. Meeting so many other RVers that has been very helpful.
Thank you for the videos and your service to this country. Safe travels.

Sad and liberating at the same time. That’s how we felt after selling our home. Covid affected our travel and new grandchildren. But we soldier on, and now we are traveling. I think it takes some of us time to figure out what needs to happen before we can travel. Like a hip replacement or repairs on the rv. All the things mentioned in this video as well. Thanks

Great advice. My wife and I retired last year in September, hit the road in October. Your are correct that RVing is not cheap unless you want to boondock the majority of time, and that is difficult in the Winter. This is our our second winter and decided to stay in Arizona, Mesa area. Still cold and expensive. We found out that we love the traveling aspect of this life, but living in it full time is a challenge in the winter unless you go to Mexico. We are currently purchasing a small home in Colorado as a base for the winter so we can enjoy the holidays with our adult children and grandkids and travel to destinations on the shoulder seasons, summer in Colorado and take the kiddos out RVing within the region. We didn’t know that unless we launched and experienced it for ourselves. We will now have the best of both with a Balance. Thank you so much for all your videos and advice. Go Army Beat Navy 🤙😎

All good info! I'm glad you included the "Mini trips". 5 Years ago I bought a 1973 Shasta 20' pull behind camper at a Real Estate Auction for $40, I didn't know why at the time and parked it next to my shop that my GF and I gutted and rebuilt during the Covid lockdown because we both have show cars, I have a 66 International Hot Rod pickup and she has a 65 Plymouth Belvedere and 2-3 weekends a month we are driving 3 plus hours to go to different shows here in the Florida/Georgia/Alabama area and it's a lot cheaper a whole lot cheaper to just tow the camper with the truck I'm driving to the show anyway and pay $15-$20 a night at a state/national park then pay $100-$150 a night for a hotel room. Last year (year 2 of having it done and spending long weekends in it) we decided to go from here in Jacksonville Beach to Biloxi Mississippi for 9 days and realized that with a couple tweeks to camper we could live full time in our camper so we started the plan, I'm retired from the Army and I already work for myself, I own a Custom Bobber (Motorcycles) Shop and she works HR for a hospital and is 3 years from when she can retire early (at 50) and a year before that so that's when were going to do it, were going to sell our house and pare down to 1 bedroom rental then close to the 1 year mark, then were going to sell both our hot rods and buy a new/newer truck to haul the camper and hit the road and just live in State Parks a couple weeks to a month at a time then move on. You gotta do it in steps to see how you can handle it and make it work for you, You can't just jump in with both feet and hope it works out. We have always lived simple so it's not going to be that hard for us, Our house is only 1200 ish sq feet so we never lived "BIG" anyway.

Thanks for the great content and inspiration, we love watching your videos together and can relate to your roles in your adventures. I also do the driving and she tells me where to go. :) I have 2-3 years left until I retire from my law enforcement career at 53. We bought our first Tiffin motorhome a month ago, planning lots of trips in the next few years to figure out how everything works on the RV and traveling. Not sure we will ever go full-time, but likely will do a few months at a time to avoid the Wisconsin winters. Haven't figured how to haul my woodworking shop along with us on our travels, so will keep the sticks and bricks for now, as that is part of my retirement plans. If you make it to WI in warmer weather we would have some suggestions for great breweries and wineries to share.

We chose our full-time date as May 11, 2023. That was based mostly on wanting to bike the Going to the Sun road in Glacier NP before vehicle traffic opens up in late June. Plan to retire the end of April but possibly continue working remotely if things work out that way. Been watching your videos for a couple years now, great job on all of them. Our research has spanned about two years and we purchased our Grand Design 310GK fifth wheel and F350 to haul it with this past September/October. We plan to visit as many National Parks as possible along with museums, train excursions, biking, hiking, etc. Hope to see ya out there somewhere.

We have been on the road for 2 years full time. Our reason was we wanted to show our son all 50 states before he graduated high school. And my tip or advice that I would give is if you are thinking you want a 5th wheel or a travel trailer. Go big on the truck if you can. We got a Ram 2500 and we are limited on what we can pull. Wish I had know and gotten a Ram 3500 . Don't over look your payload, towing is important but the payload that is key to what you can pull. Also don't wait till you can afford the best or the biggest just start small if that is all you can do. This is such an awesome thing. I wish we had started sooner.

The hardest part for us was leaving our home of 25 years and my medical. I can’t stress the medical enough. When you have any medical condition that you need regular check ups it can hamper your travel plans and how far from your doctors you can go. I have to go back to Michigan for semiannual check ups and need bloodwork done every 3 months. This makes planning harder but not impossible. Since I am not old enough for Medicare I am unable to go to doctors in any state. This is something you need to consider while traveling. Does your insurance allow you to seek coverage in any state because many insurance plans are state specific.

The market cooled , of course, and we've lost 30k at least! We did select America's Mailbox and SD for our Domicile, BUT until we leave leave leave our present state, we can't "move" to SD. I didn’t sell anything- it’s all in storage! I didn’t want to sell, get out on the road and find I hated it! I know lots of people who went to be missionaries overseas and they had to get rid of everything as well. It's not easy.
