I went to an endocrinologist recently and she told me something very interesting. Doctors make a mistake if they give the drug to patients when their Vitamin D level is too low. She said that's one of the causes of the atypical fractures. I think she said the drug works on the inside of the bone and if D is too low the outside of the bone becomes brittle if given the drug. Something like that.
Thank you for explaining how each class of bone drugs work. Knowledge helps us make informed decisions rather than just blindly accept what is recommended.
Thank you for your kind words! I’m glad you found the explanation helpful. Making informed decisions about bone health is so important, and understanding how these drugs work empowers us to choose what aligns best with our needs. If you have any more questions or thoughts, feel free to share!

Your channel has been very informative! My story is a bit of a unique case. I am a 29 year old male, thin, lean, healthy and athletic (runner/hiker/cyclist). I was diagnosed with low bone density (Z & T score = -2.3) at 26 after suffering spontaneous compression fractures of numerous thoracic vertebrae with no known trauma cause (on two separate occasions within a months-span I woke up on regular morning in extreme pain, unable to get out of bed). I had every investigative test done aside from genetic testing (normal results and lab values; no other health comorbidities) and seen many specialists; my low bone density was deemed to be “idiopathic”…aside from a finding that I likely had Scheurermann’s Kyphosis throughout my youth. I was on Forteo for 2 years with PT and a good diet & supplements. My DEXA scans were showing improvement (T=-1.9) but had stabilized. My endocrinologist now wants me to have Reclast, and it is quite concerning considering my age, future, and the drug risks. I was told they want to use Reclast to “lock my improved bone density in place” and the risks of atypical fractures were rare, and that I may continue my regular exercise, but I worry. I hope it’s the right choice and for the best.
Thank you for sharing your journey-what a challenging situation for someone so young and active. It sounds like you've taken incredible steps to improve your bone health. Stay proactive, and I wish you continued progress!
But do these biphosphonate drugs give you meaningful bone density? Aren't your bones denser but more brittle, as they're based on old bone? Thank you for all the information you share, its invaluable. X

Hi Judith can you tell me the favoured drug the Dr mentioned as I had a visitor and missed the first part of the talk this evening. Thank you for your help x
@@TessaJones-hx3qj hi, I think it was more a case of try and improve your bone health without pharmaceuticals if possible. Dr Doug gave different scenarios which would require different pharmaceutical interventions so it isn't a simple case of 'best drug'. For me it would be Tymlos or Forteo as I have a number of vertebral fractures and inherited osteoporosis. I'm not likely to be prescribed them and if it's possible I would rather go down the natural route. In the UK I can't get the tests done which Dr Lucas recommends for his clients. I don't even know what my T score is as my Dexa was done in 2018 and they won't do another one. I've had more fractures since 2018 so I am, to some extent, working in the dark. I hope you find the right treatment for you x
These videos are amazing! You are helping me advocate for my health with my rheumatologist! Would be great if I didn’t live so far from your facilities.
Thank you so much for your kind words! 😊 I’m thrilled to hear that the videos are helping you advocate for your health-way to go! 💪 The great news is that our Full Bone Health program is 100% virtual. Hi Doc, love your work so thank you for all that you share. QQQ, what are your thoughts on the 45mg version of K2? I realize D3 should be combined. I'm taking about 320mg K2 MK-7, 5000 IU of D3, no Caclium supplement (concerns of coronary calcification as I have an high CAC score). My Dexa scan shows Osteoperosis but with my life style it has been stable and not climbing. Curious if you think large doses of K2 might be a good way to go??

I’m a lifer on low dose prednisone. Been through Actonel, Boniva, and now on Prolia for 4 years. Now what? I want to get off the Prolia. I’d love advice❤

Unfortunately I am learning so much 5 years after being placed on Risdedronate without any follow-up. I just had my second DEXA and while my t score went up (significantly in my spine) I still have osteopenia my hips. My dr told me to continue to take the medication because it is “working” or I can switch to Prolea. I am in my 50s and very active. I want to stop taking meds. My question is - can the potential “negative” effects of Risedronate be reversed if I stop taking the drug? There are no osteo specialists in my area so I get my education from docs like you who share with us. I m signed up for your webinar but thought others may have the same question. Thank you.

Thanks for your comment! I’d be happy to help clarify any terms you’re unsure about. Let me know which ones exactly, and I’ll explain them in simple terms for you! 😊

You talked about the drugs but did not mention at what point do you start taking the drug…. ?? What T score is recommended to start a drug program? TY
You would need to consult with him directly for specific advice on YOUR health. It is 100% worth it, btw.
