What a beautifully restored Escort, worth a mint in gold and good to see it isn't a garage queen sitting under a cover, being driven like it was designed to be, good on ya.
I can't even put into words how much I love this car, and European cars from this era, styled in this way. I am absolutely serious when I this: I would take this particular car over just about ANY modern car if I had a choice between the 2. So much character, so much raw, visceral bad-assery. Perfect.
Ahhh!! love that sound. Old scool Mark one, with a normaly aspirated engine! love the sound the dubble carbs make, when he opens the trottle! No turbo shit, or blown (compressor) engine! Old scool is BEST!!
I always wanted a Mk1 Escort but never had the money. Later on when I had the money I bought a beautiful MK2 RS2000, then an Escort Turbo and then a MK3 RS2000. None of them was as beautiful as the MK1, and when the Escort was front wheel drive I moved on to the Sierra Cosworth.
Agreed , the new technology is impressive. it would be very interesting to see a car like this refitted with an early gearbox and ran on the same course for time comparison.
My friends sniggered about me when I bought a very early Ford Escort in 1968 my mother wrought that first Escort off but the rebuilt replacement with the anti-roll bar was super as good as my Morris Minor series II for handling but still could not catch it for speed but the Mex that I had in 1971 could out pass my old 1952 Morris by 15 mph and the 0 to 60 was a little quicker. The RS 16 was a possible car for me but I just did not like twin cam & belt cost if the went wrong and the top end speed was the same but the 0 to 60 was quicker than the mex at 8 seconds to the Mex's 10.5, slow for today's cars perhaps. the Morris had brakes for 60 mph but my Morris was smashing 105 plus mph. Those were my best years of driving fun, now I hammer Mountain bikes as fast as I can.
My first Escort was, pre anti-roll bars then I got one of the first Mex, a toss up for the RS 1600 I went for the Mex because of the cost of any damage to the engines. T he Minor was as good on road manors as was any Escort. They just had very poor brakes.
Also is that car's steering column on the left hand side like on American cars or is that because it was on camera because these things only came with right hand steering columns as far as I know
I generally prefer and work on American muscle but I can appreciate and love to watch how effortlessly this thing takes turns I mean I loved the Ford Mk 1 Escorts before but now its like infatuation
Beautiful car, I am guessing very little left of the car as it left the factory, I am not too sure how widely know it is, but when a car is prepared for racing they are totally rebuilt, everything is stripped out and replaced with uprated racing parts, sometimes including using a completely different engine, and as such a racing car could be built from anything a 2CV, a Lada, in fact there are some great Lada race cars, the car as it come from the factory is just a convenient starting point, in fact sometime you winder why they bother, as some cars don't even us th eoriginal body, using fiberglass panels cast from the original, and some don't even use the original chassis, using a custom space frame instead. I know this looks like a MK1 Escort, is a Mk1 Escort, but it will have very little to do with the Mk1 RS2000 from the 70s, the production Mk1 RS wasn't 16v for a start (at least I don't think it was), the RS1600 was. Anyhoo smashing car looks great with the big arches and skirts and that.
That car uses a 2.4 millington diamond engine - an evolution of the old ford bda engine used by Ari Vatten in the "black beauty" - whos engine was actually straight out of a formula 2 car!
Often, cars like this, are basic shells from the factory and wouldn't need to be stripped of excess parts.Fords rally department at Boreham, when the mark 1's were first used in rallying, used ultra basic escort shells, diverted off the main Ford production line.
TheFokker03 Correct. There are probably two or three standard type 43 (or was it type 49) shells left in the world. Most MK1 and 2's you see now are stanard chasis (A to C post) with rollcage making up the rest of the space frame - then aluminimum of carbon for panels. Its a real shame for dont make a mk1 or 2 again. I'd pay 30kGBP for one than a Focus RS.
Ford were planning to do a RWD version of the FOCUS as the RS version - unfortunately, the sodding bean counters vetoed it on cost grounds. It could have started a whole new ball game if they had.
What a beautiful sound - that exhaust note when the car flys by the camera is amazing.
My first car ,..... way back in 1978! Great preformance and had a lot of fun with this car.
Absoluter Hammer!! Astreiner MK I und der entsprechende Fahrer dazu!
sehr, sehr gut!
Fantastic!! Real driver real car!!! Long live the mk1 escort that simple!! Awesome!!!!
Great sound ! one of the best sounding motors ever!!
What a beautifully restored Escort, worth a mint in gold and good to see it isn't a garage queen sitting under a cover, being driven like it was designed to be, good on ya.
Very nice! Back in 1979 I had the pleasure of owning a Ford Escort 2000. best car I ever owned! Given the opportunity, Id buy one in a heartbeat!!
I can't even put into words how much I love this car, and European cars from this era, styled in this way.
I am absolutely serious when I this: I would take this particular car over just about ANY modern car if I had a choice between the 2.
So much character, so much raw, visceral bad-assery. Perfect.
The Mk1 looked so much better than the Mk2.
A thing of beauty. Thanks for the real music.
that's some mighty high rpm and the balance in the cornering is phenomenal, next to no body role.
powering along without much lift off and just sticking like glue around the corners! Wow..... man and machine in perfect harmony.
Wunderschöner Klassiker, meisterhaft pilotiert ! Ein optischer und akustischer Hochgenuß !!!!
That sounds amazing! awesome bit of driving.
Absolute perfection... both machine ( weapon really ) and man
all cars should sound like that, absolute heaven, love mk 1 escorts.
I swear RUclips pays people to hate videos cause nobody in there right mind would dislike a video like this.
iDrive4fun93 or 30 people were drunk trying to press the like button 😂
They were v dub fans!
You're SO right!!! This car is one of my all time favourites, as well as the Dodge Charger!

Wow!!!! Amazing car and driving!!
Sehr schönes Auto. Gratuliere.
Ahhh!! love that sound.

What a great car. Fantastic.
Escorts live on - the mk1 is & always will be a great car,
I absolutly love this video!! FTW!!! Ford must make cars like this and they will be a major hit!!
Amazing!!
dsg and sequential boxes weren't around in the early 70's. Still a very nice car though.
Agreed , the new technology is impressive. it would be very interesting to see a car like this refitted with an early gearbox and ran on the same course for time comparison.
Wtf,those gear shifts at the start, must have a sweet gearbox setup.
The car is so gorgeous!
Goosebumps!!
Nothing finer than the mark one esky 👍👍😍😍
What a beauty
Very nice designed MACHINE
nice car...love the colour
Possibly the best looking Ford escort ever?
Awesomeness
Sehr geil 😍
Superb !

+Gordon Davies - Great story, but sounds a bit mad that you're comparing an Escort to a Morris Minor. I'm guessing the Escort was an 1100?
My first Escort was, pre anti-roll bars then I got one of the first Mex, a toss up for the RS 1600 I went for the Mex because of the cost of any damage to the engines. T he Minor was as good on road manors as was any Escort. They just had very poor brakes.
This a great vid of a great car and driver ....👍👍
That thing is awesome.
So which parts of that are MK.1 Escort then? Certainly not the independent rear suspension or sequential 'box. So bodyshell only then?
what is the gearbox?. straight cut gear ZF? super close sounds perfect.
what a freak to drive the bend, especially in front of "the klinge" so abnormal fast
A great era for motorsport sadly never to return
damn that thing is fast i bet the adrenalins pumping hard through those corners, so damned quick
are these only in europe or can you get them in the US becuase i realy like to have one of these as my track/drift car they are very nice
Is this a 2 litre escort?
What year is this racing car?
What is the power and weight of this race car?
What's the rev limit and top speed?
Damn! That thing is a slot car come to life!
wooooooooooooooowwwwwww!!!!!!!! Pure sound!!!!
Sadly another one the US didnt get..i love these and the cadets of the same period
Beautiful.
What engine's in that? There's no way thats a Pinto. Is it a Cosworth YB n/a or a BDA. It's revving it's nuts off but sounds awesome!
What a beaut!!
Oh man what an idea so we could really see what one of those sexy beast could do. Love you for that idea, hope one day it happens.
where him get the body kit from ?
Also is that car's steering column on the left hand side like on American cars or is that because it was on camera because these things only came with right hand steering columns as far as I know
No it came in both left hand drive and right hand drive forms.
My late father used to drive one.. a 2 door version..
absolute beast
Geiler Hundeknochen, was der wohl für nen Motor u. Getriebe hat?
is that a escort mk6 rs 2000 lump on webber 45? or is it non turbo cossie lump on 45???
Excellent.
I generally prefer and work on American muscle but I can appreciate and love to watch how effortlessly this thing takes turns I mean I loved the Ford Mk 1 Escorts before but now its like infatuation
+Kgbcomedy Escorts have that effect. THe mk2 even more so (and in later years the Escort Cosworth)
nice sound
I knew there was a reason i had 3 x MK1's and 3 x MK 2's back in the day.
Reminds me of my dad in his on Friday when I've told him I've got a tab open at the local

you must really love it to pay £30k for one.I take it you mean a complete one, rather than just a shell?
TheFokker03 that's 30k for a low spec one. Most of the top spec mk1 and 2 (Colin McRae spec) you'll have to spend at least £150k
beautiful
love it.😀😀😀
Awesome

It could have started a whole new ball game if they had.
Tolles Auto....
@Filmitis I know right its almost like they dont want us to hear the car in some videos
Thumbs up

beautiful - sounds like it must be topping out around 11K RPM - anyone know?
