thanks for all you do. i have played 1-2 and 1-3 for many years and the K 10o hand is just a easy fold the 2nd all in is going to be 10s-AA probably 85%+ of the time. and 95% of the time at least one of them has 10s+. rarely will it be a middling pair by the 2nd all in. at 2-5 up this may be more of a thing but not at the bottom stakes. keep making great content james and thanks again

Personally I would have folded KT in that spot, but I like the way you broke the hand down and the thought process behind it. I like the analytical way you describe things and explain your thought process

Love the vlog. great to see breakdowns of live hands. It's really going to help people (who want to get better) get better. I do disagree with your take on the recording at the table (re the irate guy) ... first come first come first serve IMO. If he's there first and doesn't want you recording, then you should abide by that. If you're seated first, he should wait for another table. Vlogging is not so common yet that it should be expected everywhere. To make poker accessible and welcoming takes some compromise, even tho you're there specifically to record.

Great Vlog! Recently subscribed and looking forward digging through the content. Truly awesome stuff. Only feedback I have is that you say "get the job done a decent amount of the time" quite a bit when you're betting. It would be helpful to have a little more analysis on what the job is in each situation... Are you looking for a call and from what ranges etc? Looking to isolate a specific player etc...

Nice video! What do you think about the somewhat small bet on the turn with the A7 hand? Personally I don't really see what that would accomplish. I can't really see many worse hands continuing, except for the some weird 7x which the HJ ended up having. On the other hand, it seems good to make a larger bet like 60 bucks which would put a lot of pressure on hands with better showdown, like jacks, tens, AK, 8x, worse flushdraws since you would play two pair and sets the same way. And in case someones raises all in you might be positive EV with the flush draw even against sets, but I can't really see how any of them could have a set in this situation.

On your AJ fold on the flop, why didn't you give more consideration to the % that villains have a flush and/or straight draw? These guys are definitely jamming with those hands too no? And there are quite a lot of them?
Cheers! In the AJ hand, an older player who raised UTG and then called a $40 total 3bet likely doesn't have any draws other than AdKd, AdQd, and *maybe* KdQd. It's very unlikely they would show up with other diamond combos or 98 type draws either imo.
Nice fold with the AJ there vs the set of 7's. I would probably have got it in.

18:09 It really depends on the two players ranges. If they are shoving any two cards we have like 41% equity and we only need about 28% so it's an easy call in that case but otherwise I think you were just overthinking it with fancy play syndrome. You would need like TT+ or AK (Even that might need to be suited depending on whether or not they stack off with like KQs or TT-JJ) I know someone told me their stackoff range is JJ+, AK, AQ, KQs and you need a big hand for that
I’ve watched some of your videos and appreciate the content. Do you have any examples of where you execute a well-timed River bluff? I think a lot of players miss out on so many pots by not taking advantage of the board when that 3rd card of a suit hits for a possible flush or another card matching 2nd pair on the board comes out. (If so, drop a link for it. If not, maybe consider it)

In the second hand (KsQs), would you fold after a check-raise with the possible hearts flush on the turn or would you call one bet?
Depends on the size, but it's tough for me to continue vs. most x/r ranges there at this limit.

AJ hand was a very nice fold. Absent being there myself I probably just auto-stack off here because my games play a little more aggressive where OESD's and FD's will attack the weak c-bet, but given UTG was the original PFR, "older guy" read, and still had two players to act behind him, your read seems correct that he's strong. As you said, AQdd probably just calls the bet and he doesn't seem like the player type to open 76s UTG leaving very few combos that could raise the flop.

Was this a particular soft table? or is this the standard at this level? I play in Oregon and I just never see this kind of play. Especially that K7 in position 27 bet on the river??...

Hey split. Great video, congrats. Did you not consider going all in on the flop yourself, rather than betting 33? If my math is right, you had 245 left in your stack, for a pot of 168, meaning a 1,5 SPR roughly. Did you believe this would turn you hand into a bluff? Thanks a lot and happy new year.
Thanks Phil! I certainly consider it overall, but with two tighter players in this MW pot, I also consider bet/fold lines vs. super predictable raising ranges.
on the AJo hand, ive found that B/F on these kinds of spots in 1/2 or micros online ive been right far more often than im wrong, ive found that most players at this level dont play draws super aggressively ive noticed, i also like 3betting the AJ from the SB as well, playing OOP absolutely sucks and recently ive employed a 3bet/fold strategy when playing OOP preflop and its been going incredibly well!
I also think that with that raise with such a short stack at the table, i think you can take alot of the air out of the raisers range because he knows it will go to showdown reasonably often
Ive also found that raising to 25-30 in the KT hand does the same that 35 would for the most part

I have a question, the card rooms here have much shallower stacks the $100 max buy in is $2/$3 and the $40 max is $1/$2. How would your play differ in these situations? Would you just all in shove a lot more and go high variance? Or would you just play smaller and go to a lot more multi-way pots
Preflop would be much closer to a *3bet shove or fold* strategy given the lack of stack depth
I think the fold with AJ is really close but most likely good, however I don't know why you choose to bet so small in the first place. At spr of just over 1, my goal would be to get max value from worse Jx, 88-TT, flush draws, and denying equity from other random hands that have equity. I would pick a sizing more like 75, so that especially those pocket pairs feel like they're priced in, or perhaps just shove if I feel like the table dynamic was good. Your sizing does let you get away vs coolers like in this situation, but I have to imagine getting value outweighs the slim opportunity you can avoid a cooler?
I hear you. The sticking point is really UTG and the fact that they could reasonably have JJ+ after calling preflop.

Games play small in Florida. Most $1/$2 games here in Michigan max buy in at $400 with some games giving you the option to match the biggest stack when you first sit in. I recently played a $1/$2 game in Texas with no cap people was buying in for $2,500 was crazy.

regarding vlogging at the table, i feel it's your responsibility to move tables if you're the one recording, esp if that player has already been playing. however if the majority of players are okay with it then i guess it would be no different than adding a straddle to the game. some rooms all you need is one nay vote, some rooms just move the player or force that game upon him provided a majority rule.

1st time watcher. I play profitable but definitely opposite so I like see how math guys think. I play very lag so my swings are a lot bigger. I like to know how people think and pressure them based on that. I am definitely the crazy player but I actually know poker well. My question is how can I incorporate more math without changing my style ? what ev I need to make all in bluff shoves that i love doing showing and taking advantage later?
Welcome Benjamin! Start by mathematically looking at some of the more common spots you take. Math is easier for decisions later in the hand (e.g., river spots), so maybe start there and look at the EV of some plays you make.

There are a lot of factors at play to open EVERY AXs, especially from EP and MP.
How much rake is ok for live poker?
It's contextual to the toughness of the game imo. In a tougher game, I would never want more than a few big blinds/hand coming off with maxed rake.

Been a big fan of yours for a long time/ a comment on your take on people objecting to filming:
Sorry totally disagree on your opinion here. You as the filming player are the outlier, the person objecting is not the outlier. Players have a right not to be filmed, you don't have the right to film others. If there are objections here you should be the one to move tables, not the objector.
Personally I would care less if someone was filming at my table but strongly believe in the objectors right to have their way here.

Maybe if the objecting player/s were assured that the table and hole cards are the focal point and that their face will never appear on the net and furthermore, that a pre upload copy could be sent to them for review it would calm their farm a bit more. I hate being either photographed or filmed in any situation by strangers and even by the Mrs, family or friends because 1) I don't trust Facebook or the internet in general because of my knowledge of it and do my best to keep my likeness off of there at all costs (Eg: maintain privacy to avoid scammers or identity theft anyone?) and 2) cause I have a head that was made for radio 🤣 I would however, have no objection if issued with a pre upload copy of the vlog and given the opportunity to raise any concerns about identifying features I may prefer edited out other than game play - call me slightly paranoid in relation to overall online presence but in this day and age I'd rather be that than the alternatives I know to be present in this convenience we enjoy.
I can totally understand that opinion, and thanks for sharing it David! Does it matter that zero faces are on film? Or that everyone is on camera 100% of the time whenever they step foot into a poker room? Or that the floor has a definitive ruling on filming in the room?

I explained that to him and he said he didn't care and did not want his play recorded.
I would've enjoyed a longer explanation for the AJo fold... 1/2 live less than 2 SPR with tons of dead money... flush draw (you have no blockers) out there, tons of straight draws. Not to mention you cbet tiny and 1/2 live players often view that as weakness... granted he did raise with a few people behind... maybe I'm just used to Texas poker but I'm not seeing a ton of reasons to fold.
Against MANY other player types I am not finding that fold with AJ fwiw.
Your bet sizes seem small. Not like terribly small but at 1/2 I think you need to size up a little bit

A fair chunk of the time you get seated at a poker table with a lunatic. It's so common I don't even pay attention to it anymore. Something about the contrast of the ritziness of casinos and the trash that fills them brings a smile to my face for some reason that perhaps psychoanalysis can ascertain.

I think that when constructing the range for the k10o hand it was way to isolated to hands you were not crushed by you had no JJ-AA and no AK KQ A10 nothing that dominated you I believe that in practice you have a lot less eq that being said I was not there and table dynamics are huge also there was one hand where you bet I believe A8 and said that for that sizing you can see getting value from pairs of 7s and even 4s butJJ might even fold for this size I don’t see how you get make out on both sides not hating on vid just a few things that I picked up on that I either don’t understand or disagree with
In any 'close-ish' spot, the subjectivity elements of your analysis become magnified (which James alluded to). Often they are nothing but rationalizations particularly for the beginning and intermediate level. And they are almost never tracked. If they were, you'd see plenty of contradictions...even with experts. And nothing about that will ever change as it relates to close spots. It's part and parcel of the game. This is the main entrance luck uses to remind you of its power. You have to learn to find peace with this maddening part of the game. There's no solution that kicks luck to the curb and forever keeps it there. Well, except...
To be fair with the A8 hand, I was referring to one player calling with worse pairs and the OTHER player possibly folding hands like JJ.

Again like these live break dwn formats... But I think you were little hard on the I want to be on vlog guy.. if you were on the other side with his hand at least 53.7% of the time you would tell us that firing on that 2nd 8 on the river will make a 7 fold for the take dwn....
Had he bet bigger I can agree with that. But for $27, 7x just likely doesn't fold.
SplitSuit. A question of procedure. I do not think it is legal for anyone at the table to tell a player what the previous bet was. Isn't that helping the player out with a decision? It's up to each player to remember the action, isn't it?
Good question and I'm not 100% sure on the precise procedure. That said, a player who asks that sort of question is likely not very good, and I'd rather they stay happy than be a rule-nit and possibly turn them off from poker.

@@ThePokerBank So based on the read you had on EP2 he could be doing this with a very wide range because he is tilting and wants to go home. I would give him the occational slowplayed monster (AQ,AK,QQ-AA) and weigh it at 1/3, all the suited aces, halve of the offsuit aces, halve of the suited broadways, some random offsuite broadways, 99-JJ, and halve of 22-88. The HJ probably picked up on the EP2 behaviour otherwise his play doesnt make much sense, so i would put him on the occational traped monster (AQ,AK,JJ-AA) and weigh it at 1/4 cause he is in late position, AJ,AT, 1/3 of the suited aces, some random suited broadways, 88-TT, and halve of 22-77
I wouldn't have called that K10, no reason for basically break-even at best and I would have guesstimated less than 33% chance to win, more like 25%

no one is playing GTO in a baby 1/2 or 2/5 game
i would have bet more with AJ like 75$ then if i got raised i can let it go, 33 can induce a raise and i would have lost it all

I really love your vlogs and the breakdown of your hands.
Having said that, the KT hand to me looks like a clear fold against 2 players.
I just can not see you getting the right odds there against 2 players.
And even the AQ shove (after just one orbit playing with that female opponent) is thin in my opinion as well, especially considering that most females are definitely on the tighter spectrum of things.
(but glad that hand worked out well for you)
In the last hand with 87s when you bet 22 into a $ 85 pot into 2 players, i can not see the merit of that bet.
You say "maybe they will fold out their 55, 66 etc.", but those are the only hands you beat and i don't see them calling with those on that board in a 3-way pot. (Ok, you could get called by AK, AT, KT etc.)
I think betting this hand against 2 players on that particular board is not doing anything for you, i don't see you getting 2 folds on this board, even hands like 99 or TT are calling there probably.
All you are doing is bloating the pot out of position, kind of block betting and hoping you don't get raised and pick up equity on the turn.
I can understand the original 3-better showing up there with AK a lot, but i really don't understand what the other player had there, calling there and not even beating your hand. (maybe something like AT(s), KT(s))
Good fold with the AJ.
Like you said, most players with the nut-flushdraw there with hands like AQs will either shove there or just call, but not raising half their stack and shoving the rest on the turn.
For that reason it had to be one of the 2 sets most likely, 66 or 77, and it was one of them in the end.

1. KT: Do you feel the same way after seeing the math breakdown? What ranges are you assigning to make it a fold? (Not saying you're wrong btw, just trying to look at the spot as mathy/objectively as possible).

The size is also cheaper than the size of a bet that I might face if I check the flop OR a bet that the SB might make on the turn if the flop checks through. I think you're right that the CO had some sort of AT/KT type hand.
@@ThePokerBank love your work James! I wanted to jump into this comment to ask about the 87 bet of $22 on the flop. If you had KQ KJ or QJ, would you have made the same size bet? Presumably not… i would imagine half pot at least. So then doesn’t it send info to your opponents that you have a drawing or mediocre hand perhaps?
