Hey everyone. It took me a while, but I have just realised the stupid mistake of putting "(R) Fey Ancestry" in the features and traits column. It is an elven trait, not a dwarven trait. Besides that, the instructions in the video is still relevant for players who want to build their new character.
WOW I am impressed by your forward ness and ability to present a coherent walkthrough of what (to me) seemed like a complicated process Thank you so much
I went through 10-12 videos of hearing the same crap and not getting it... Almost called it quits until I found this series. Now i actually understand stuff!
I am DMing for my family after not having played D&D for something like 25 years. Thank you for your videos! They have been very helpful in helping me understand how the game has changed from when I used to play. Best of luck with your channel!
Thank you for making these! I am literally making my very first character sheet, and I'm learning so much from this!! Your videos are FANTASTIC, super clear, and have taught me things I couldn't find easily anywhere else - like what saving throws mean and such! And because of the fun animations and good sound and music, it sticks in my memory very easily. So helpful! My first game is this Friday (1 week from now), so it really is perfect timing - thanks for making these!!
just loving these. They are clear and straight forward. I also really appreciate that they are family friendly. Thank you so much for the time you obviously put into these.
Hi there! I'm a baby DM about to start her first campaign and I just want to thank you for making this video series! You laid out the info in a way that was really simple and clear. I'm sure I'll still stumble now and then but my first session doesn't seem as daunting now. Thank you again!
This is the best tutorial ever, some other tutorials reach 30 mins and they keep saying to buy the Players's Handbook like your life really depends on that book...
Dude, you not only did an excellent job going step by step, but you showed great examples with well done visuals. I DMed 3.5 for a while and 4th edition for a few years, but that was a decade ago. I really needed a refresher, especially a quick "ok, how is 5e different". You're the man!
Great Video! I'm a DM trying to run a game for some new players but I'm not able to meet with them before our first session to make characters. I spent about 30 minutes on youtube trying to find a video to explain character creation. This video was the best by far!
Great video! You just proved that it IS possible to make incredibly detailed, yet simple to follow instructions regarding character creation. The graphics are amazing and it shows that you put a lot of hard work into making this video. Keep up the great work!
My friend, you have done an exceptional job on these videos. They helped out my entire party as we got ready for our first campaign. We barely even needed to read the books! Keep up the good work man.
these are the best D&D tutorial videos I've ever seen, i'm a rather experienced player but for new people i play with, i recommend this series 100%, hopefully you can find the time to release more videos! :D
I've been playing DnD for a long time, so I didn't really need this video, but it was very well made and you went through all the steps perfectly and clearly. I might show your videos to some newer players to aid in the explanation. Thanks for making these, and good job.
Wow, great series! I had such a hard time understanding the rules from the official rulebook, despite spending several hours on it. Thanks to you, it took me less than two hours and I've finally got a character set in stone, and a fair grasp of the rules!
Lovely videos that explain it in a simple and easy way to understand. Thank you for making these videos. it's helping me get ready to run the Dragon of Icespire Peak for my group soon. i'm a first time DM, and it'll be my first time doing anything D&D
Loved the video! There is a piece of advice that I think can be... overlooked at times CJ: Don't have fun at another player's expense. Party: Jokes about the half-orc wanting to get drunk half the time and always make decisions. It's all good and we all have a laugh out of character too.
Fantastic series! The best explanations I've ever seen for new comers and old vets that want to learn 5e! I can't wait for the "Level Up and Customization" episode and for even more content! Keep up the good work!
This was the first video i saw by you and even though i'm not posting this until now i want you to know that this was extremely helpful to a D&D noob that was me about a month ago! (by some standards (most standards...) i am still a noob but i now own all the core rule books and have a decent idea of how to play the game so i no longer consider myself a noob.)
thank you so much for making these videos. the effort you put in is really admirable and it helped me a lot when learning how to play my first round of D&D with my friends! amazing animation that really complements the teaching and I really appreciate the effects and music as well... truly godsent!
I have to say that I love these videos. you are doing an amazing job in explaining this. I have watched your video's and they have helped me be a DM for a bunch of guys that have never played. thank you.
Your D&D guides are pure gold, dude. I think it would be great if you kept that up and made some more. I'm sure there's still a lot to cover in D&D 5, and with your tutorials, there's almost nothing else a guy like me has to learn, to be able to play and run a game with my friends. Thank you. And the main music theme choice feels just perfect to me. May I ask what's the name of the song that goes from the beginning?
Quick note, you only get the +2 AC from the shield if you are wielding it. I usually add it on to AC only if I'm using the shield. Seems better to forget to add it on and feel like an idiot than forget to take it off and be accused of cheating.
Im pretty new to DnD and i have already ended my first sheet, which im gona use with some of my friends, also newbies. The only thing was that we had lv 2 characters at the start, so i made an arcane trickster buglar high elf. Looking at that +7 proficency bonus to Sleight of Hand to pickpocket is almost hypnotic
Thanks alot for doing this. I love your medium and approach. As an expirience player of other systems, I was tempted to skip a lot of your videos though I'm glad I didn't as 5e does things differently, expecially from Pathfinder from which I'm more accustomed.
Incidentally according to Reddit the standard array is made with the same point buy system as the point buy system, it's just a premade set. And it's very convenient for new players, especially since the right race and/or feats can bump the 8 to a 10 and give you a set with no ability minuses.
The very first character I rolled in DnD (but never played, alas, I was just testing the 4ed book) was the classical Tiefling Warlock with Pact of the Fiend. I still recall taking the standard set of characteristics and after racial bonuses have been applied I ended up with 17 in Cha, 14 in Con, 13 in Dex, 12 in Wis, 10 in Str and 9 in Int. I rolled pitifully on HP, though, even with the Con +2 taken into account. My first played character was a premade Human War Cleric with an acolyte background.
Hello! question: Where can i submit subtitles in other language? I want my players to watch this video, but they speak spanish and you explain it very very well. So i kinda need to trasnlate it for them to watch it, but idk how to submit them. Thanks
If you pick your class skill proficiencies first and they overlap with your background skill proficiencies you are allowed to choose another skill as long as it uses the same attribute modifier.
I am discovering your series and I love it! You are doing a great job explaining all this. One question: how did you get the "Fey ancestry" trait? I do not see it in the Race features in the Basic Rules. Is it in the Player Handbook?
I'm not totally sure if this was just my table or not, there are plenty of extra race options if picked from Volo's Monster Guide. Just be careful in case other DMs don't allow other races like Kobolds.
DMs usually have the right to veto some options and introduce house rules because they are running the game. The rules are more clearly outlined if you are playing in official games like Adventurers League.
Don't Stop Thinking That is true and very worth mentioning. I'm just only adding it in since I know the game I play are letting some people use those races. Although it's very good to check with the DM first.

I love that style of art, it is so simple yet effective.
I am DMing for my family after not having played D&D for something like 25 years. Thank you for your videos! They have been very helpful in helping me understand how the game has changed from when I used to play. Best of luck with your channel!

The organization of information and graphics has made this my favorite character creation tutorial. This whole series has been pretty damn amazing.
Great Video! I'm a DM trying to run a game for some new players but I'm not able to meet with them before our first session to make characters. I spent about 30 minutes on youtube trying to find a video to explain character creation. This video was the best by far!
Awesome! Never seen people make animations to talk about Tabletop RPGs! Great idea!

This was the most effective of the videos to help me understand game play but this entire group was incredibly helpful.
My friend, you have done an exceptional job on these videos. They helped out my entire party as we got ready for our first campaign. We barely even needed to read the books! Keep up the good work man.
This is by far the best series for newbies getting into D&D.

Best D&D CC video I have found on the net. Thank you for explaining it so clearly

My friends want me to join their D&D game, but I don't know anything about the game. This series is exactly what I was looking for. Subbed!
Loved the video! There is a piece of advice that I think can be... overlooked at times
CJ: Don't have fun at another player's expense.

It's all good and we all have a laugh out of character too.

That is a very interesting point buy system the one I prefer starts at 9 gives you 21 points and the max you can put any stat to is 18
I've learned so much from you
Man this series is just a god-send. Was it made by man...or God?
You need more subs @_@ keep these dnd vids rolling
SO well done! Thanks a lot!

This is so helpful! Thank you!
you deserve more subs
these are soooooooooo helpful! Thanks!
You just got a sub. Well done on this video series. ^_^
Thanks, Ollin,
Thanks man, really helpful :D
If you pick your class skill proficiencies first and they overlap with your background skill proficiencies you are allowed to choose another skill as long as it uses the same attribute modifier.
You should pick your class skills after you pick a background. They can not overlap. If they do overlap you lose a skill.
Another great video!
you rock, thanks for the good videos.
