  • The installation of an off-grid hydro-electric power system for the remote community of Imaki on the volcanic Tanna Island in Vanuatu.
Following the loss of the power system after Hurricane Pam, Imaki were without a sustainable power supply for the best part of a decade. Ecoinnovation became aware of this project and with the help of Independent Power Ltd installed 2 Powerspout hydro turbines with Victron power control equipment.
This project would not have been possible without the research conducted by UNSW notably Dr Richard Cornish and his students, Chris Mcgrath & Eden Tehan, their research and time on the island over the past decade were invaluable and the success of this project is attributed to them.
Jackson Iakapas was invaluable in the organisation of raw materials on the ground. A big thank you for your kindness and help with the project.
The installation team was Edward Lawley & Michael Lawley who spent a week with over 300 local villages to get this project off the ground. Without the local help, this project would not have been possible.
This video serves as a testament to what can be achieved with the right expertise and a team of dedicated individuals.
