The exercise deemed so captivating that even the Soviets were demanded to stop what they were doing and observe whilst it was taking place. As told to Kathy Johnson by Natalia Shaposhnikova herself.

Masterpiece? She was very graceful. But the tumbling wasn't hard. Her choreography was missing beautiful turns & her leap selection was just ok. For me, Shannon Miller will always be the Queen of Elegance in American gymnastics. She could really dance to the classical music.
Just an FYI, she’s tumbling on a floor without springs. A double full was more than adequate in 1978. Nadia herself dismounted with only a layout at the same competition. And this routine is regarded as one of the most artistic routines of all time. Before the artistic requirements we now know. That being said, artistry is subjective.
Very sad to see this kind of elegant dance artistry & musical interpretation completely lost from the programs of some of the contemporary gymnastics champions…like Simone Biles. Artistic gymnastics is supposed to be about far more than just the tricks.

The most beautiful and elegant gymnast ever to watch. Absolutely stunning 😍
I had a poster of her on my wall. Such a beautiful gymnast.
Sehr ,sehr schön weich, elegant und toll ausgeführter Bewegungsablauf!😊
She was ahead of her time
This is a great floor routine, very well executed😮
stunning!!! also interesting to see americans with russian musics in late 70's
That was beautiful 🥰
Gorgeous!!!
Would be interesting to put in a commentary by Kathy similar to what she does for everyone else.
Is this the one that was underscored and the audience stoped the meet untill the score was changed?
That occurred during the all-around competition. This video is from the event finals.
That was the blue leo
Why isn't the original music ??

She is very beautiful and did a great energized excersice.
The music is soft and absolutely impressive.
Bit it doesn't fit together, here, somehow.
It’s a montage and substituted different music with no commentary
What year was this? 1978 or 79?

Yes. I love Shannon Miller too even with her face full of plastic surgeries.

It’s the judges fault; not specific gymnasts.
Kathy had a strong ballet background before starting gymnastics at age 12. I don’t think there are any other Olympic gymnasts who’ve done the same.
Tourescheva is WAY better and more graceful- Kim
So much than the current tumbling run floor ex. It’s all tricks now, no routine
