Bro this tune is so sick! Thanks for the clear video. I just passed Grade 6 and I am about to start this song for my grade 7. Any tips? Love the videos 🤙
Thanks for watching Alfie, have fun! As I say below, in hindsight I missed a ride bell hit in the choruses in this video - there should be one in unison with the snare on beat "2" in addition to the ones I played. Watch out for that! Doesn't change the feel hugely but it should be there! Thanks for watching and good luck with it! :)
Yeah, it's a good challenge! And you know what - in hindsight I missed a ride bell hit in the choruses in this video - there should be one in unison with the snare on beat "2" in addition to the ones I played. Doesn't change the feel hugely but it should be there! Thanks for watching and good luck with it! :)
thanks so much for the videos I refer all my students to these. Just one thing to be careful for students if preparing for an exam, I believe at the solo break it must go crash crash, crash crash, so 4 crashes in total but i think you only do 3 before your fill.
Great video!! I'm currently learning this song for the exam and I find it so fun to play, I see you enjoyed playing it too! Quick question though, how would you phrase the bell pattern for the chorus?
Hi there, thanks for watching! I'm actually missing out a note in the ride chorus pattern here! It should go: 1 + a, 2 + , 3 + a, e + . I'm missing the one that syncs with the snare hit on beat "2". Cheers! Mike
Hey Mike, hope you’re doing good. I passed grade 6 and finished learning all the songs. I started learning this song for grade 7 but I’m not able to play the fast triple stroke on the ride during the chorus at full speed. I wanted to ask what you would recommend I can do to improve my speed. Thanks!
Hey :) I've been playing drums for about 4 months now(using school drums for the first month) and am self taught. I've used these trinity Rock and Pop videos to kinda guide myself through grades to see whereabouts I'm at. Grade 7 is my new challenge after nailing Smooth Criminal and Smells like teen spirit. I don't suppose there are any important tips/techniques I should be aware of in grade 7? If so, I'd certainly appreciate the help :) Awesome covers, by the way! I've watched this video a fair few times to familiarize myself with the fills. I also really like the Grade 5: Here comes the sun. Had a lot of fun adding my own fills after mastering the initial beat :D
This might be a bit late, but what I did was photocopy the missing pages and tape them to the edge of the first page so they could fold up and I could unfold them for the exam
Hi Sean, thanks for watching man. This is a demo of the version of this song as it appears in Trinity Rock and Pop Drums Grade 7. It's a little different from the Foos/Taylor original, and I record these as a reference for my students (and anyone else interested) learning this for their exams. In the solo section the idea is that candidates will come up with their own stuff. What I'm playing here is just an example - if you're doing this for your Grade 7 please come up with your own stuff for this section! If this video was a note-for-note cover of the original then I would indeed have played the Taylor part in that solo. Cheers Sean, all the best and thanks for commenting 👊🏻
Ah yes, but not in this version - this is a demo of the version that appears in the Trinity Rock and Pop Grade 7 course, hence the title. I record these vids as a reference for students learning these pieces for their exams. Thanks for watching.
I apologise. I love your playing, but I really really hate how Trinity and Rockschool dumb down the parts for these tracks. Grade 7 piano doesn't dumb down parts for anything - you play the piece as intended or you don't. All the grades at drums do is make it easier for people to pass when the musicality is being taken out of pieces. Taylor Hawkins' drumming was a lot more involved in this track. I know someone who passed Grade 7 and he can't play that well at all. He can pass an exam but can't actually play well.
Thanks for watching. Yes the pieces aren't the same as the originals, they're their own drum part and song arrangement to fit the grade level. If this bothers you, just learn the originals instead. No one's forcing you to learn these versions! With my own students we often find these versions are a good stepping stone to learning the full versions. Cheers.
@@MikeBarnesDrums My comment wasn't a knock on your playing. You're a mint drummer which is why I enjoy your videos. 🙂 I'm more trying to get across the point that the authorities behind drum grading deliberately dumb things down in a way that just doesn't happen with, say the piano. There's no basic version of the Moonlight Sonata to warrant getting a Grade 3. You either play the whole first movement at Grade 7/8 (depending on the edition/interpretation) or you don't get graded.
Awesome!! Really enjoyed watching this! 🤘🏻🔥
Finally some Trinity rock and pop hey I am in grade 2 what grade 7 is non of my business but aweseome👏👏👏 🥁

I've just started this tune last week and i'm having alot of trouble with the chorus on the ride. It's really hard to keep the rhythm steady :/

You are playing grade 7 after only 4 months! That's impressive well done! (I've been playing for 2 years and am about to start grade 6)
Ishani Mazumder I suppose the lockdown has helped :) Drumming every day of the week for 5 months played a huge part
Double bass
I've been going for a year and am going to grade 5, not sure if I am more ahead or not but I have definitely nailed smells like teen spirit in grade 6
PERFECT men you are the best!!!!!!
What should I do for the page turn when filming for my actual exam?
This might be a bit late, but what I did was photocopy the missing pages and tape them to the edge of the first page so they could fold up and I could unfold them for the exam
Love playing this song
Yeah classic!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your help !
Great video:) , is there any chance you could make a video talking over it like you do with some of the other grades? :)
meadow gallagher - diver Sure man, it’s on the list! Thanks for watching :)

Awesome drum fills.
Would appreciate a separate slow demonstration if possible.

Yes! Like it :)
@@MikeBarnesDrums sweet hehe
Can u make a tutorial on this song
Shashwat Mangulkar Yeah man, stay tuned!
You play the drum break/solo part differently. You should play it like Taylor man.

This is not an easy song to play... plus Taylor Hawkins keeps 8th notes with the foot on the hi hat while playing this Intricate ride beat.
