Botox is a weakened form of botulinum toxin. It is a neuromuscular agent that selectively weakens the targeted muscles to prevent wrinkles of the skin. Botox is typically injected into three areas in the upper third of the face. These areas include the:
- Eleven's (vertical lines between the brows)
- Crow's feet (laugh lines around the eyes)
- Forehead
Patients can typically begin to see results within the first 2 to 4 days after injection. It takes about 7 days for the Botox to take full effect. Side effects may include swelling and bruising, and results generally last 3 to 4 months.
