- My German Shepherd April Races against my gymnast friend David and film it in high speed to see who's faster. I set up some races and a few scenarios between April the dog and David the human and film that with the high-speed camera to reveal who's faster and just how much faster? a dog or a human?.
In the slow motion footage you can clearly see the difference between the two and who's faster, as well as how their body mechanics differ and the method for getting up, transferring weight and running.

I love April's face in slow mo, she has the time to turn her head and stare at David before the first two steps of every race; her expression is like: "why is he moving along with me at the same time?"
After the first race, I think she knew, she was getting mad when we were taking too long to set up, she didn't do that before the first race.

I love how April looks over at David during the race. Like most viewers, I think April was just having a LOT of fun. I’m sure David was having fun too, but he knew it was a real race.
BTW, David’s music REALLY worked accompanying the race! It also looked like April has decide David is her new friend.

Fun fact: For dogs, the information from their eyes goes to their brain twice as fast, making them see everything in slow motion. This makes them have much better reaction time than any human.
I actually have an episode coming up where I show a fly versus human reaction time in why we can't SWAT a fly easily. It's all about processing time. Many insects and animals are at a higher reflex frequency then humans

Thanks, I definitely wasn't expecting any promotion in return but that would be cool, all I know is. I don't know what you would title that video, but that would be a cool ass Twist on things, everybody knows those see-through engines, and to take that material, make something else out of it and shoot it through a gun would just be badass!. It took me almost a year to develop that material. But I'll tell you this, it's really clear, slightly flexible, and amazingly strong.
@@WarpedPerception If it has a little flexibility that will ensure it will handle the 10,000 or so G's of acceleration. Brittle materials can often shatter, like cast iron slugs.
TAOFLEDERMAUS and cats have 4x4 with all differentials locked... If you scare them in gloss tiles they spin for ages!

No human can outrun a driven (well trained) and healthy German Shepherd under legitimate circumstances. If we could, they wouldn't be used in law enforcement and military applications. They can easily top 30mph.
Yes, April tops out at about 30-35 mph, I haven't actually clocked her running full speed, but I did clock her in this video right here ruclips.net/video/KaOOO9oFLj4/видео.html , but I still don't think that she was giving it all she had.
ragnarocking same with Pitt-bull mastiffs. My grandma has one and he ran by a thing that tells you your speed and he got 47mph

one good experiment would had been to let the dude take off first on a 30 yard stretch to see how fast can the dog catch him.

German Shepherds (when they are actually trying) can run well over 30 mph. Greyhounds can run 45 mph. The fastest human on Earth, Usain Bolt, has been clocked at a max of just under 28 mph. So no, your friend cannot run faster than "any dog".

This is so inaccurate since the dog don’t know what 3-2-1 means.. she only reacts to “come”! AND She don’t go full speed of course.. I bet she could do it at least 3 times as fast!
I actually think that's incorrect, dogs are a lot smarter than you think, and if you watch her closely as I count down, she kind of jumps and Twitches a bit because she realizes I haven't got to 3 yet.
You are wrong again, the dog is waiting for the word “come”. And since he is jumping on every count he does not know what you will count to. And you cannot tell a dog to run as fast as he can... if so, the person could never bet him!
@@isakwendesten4695 if you look at all the reaction times April is as fast if not faster at reacting than David. The only time where David was a head was when they were laying down.
Now, I think what makes this inaccurate is that April could go much faster than this, especially if the distance was longer. But she's not trained to go as fast as possible (like racing Greyhounds).
It would be fun to see a second episode comparing April with a newly retired racing Greyhound and see the difference in speed and acceleration.

The dog had so much time to emotionally respond it was ridiculous. That was all simultaneous, if that dog had the intent to race as fast as possible she wouldve won so easily. His face was determined she was just a little curious about why he was running lol

April was playing around. I've had a few German Shepherds and used to exercise them by having them chase the ute down a dusty outback road. They sure didn't look like that... They're really really fast when they're trying. Their face changes as well - from playfulness to determination.
I have a German Shepherd....and confirm that you definitely cannot out-run them. If I throw a ball, she takes off like a furry missile in pursuit of it!

Maybe in the very beginning, but that Tesla can go 0-100kmh in like 3 seconds. Even the most elite sprinter dogs can't go that fast.

I hate to break this to you but the only entity actually racing in that video was David. April thought she was just playing a game. In a real race, she'd be at the finish line before he gets out of his drive phase. When she's looking at him, it's actually not because she's being competitive, she's looking to him for direction to see what he wants her to do. GSDs do that when they run with a human. They won't try to actually beat the human or race past the human unless trained to do so or offered a different incentive.
If he'd have slowed down, so would she. They always modify their speed according to the human. The only way to get her to run top speed is to have her chase something. If you were in the back of a pickup, she'd chase you in a pickup and wouldn't care what David is doing. That's how you'll see her true speed. Fun video, but nowhere near accurate given the temperament of GSDs.
Love it!, You're probably right on the money, I mean who knows what she was actually thinking but she just wanted to go all day. next time for sure I'm going to set this up there for me to see how bad she leaves him in the dust for real. But it was fun and I gave me a chance to put David up to what he's always saying, he's always saying he can beat a dog no problem...lol

April, What a sweetheart.. She was just running along side a playmate. If she understood it was a race she would've eviscerated David. But the slow-mo is really cool and she's a beautiful GSD. Her excited bark reminds me of my girl Dottie.

apearently sighthounds can reach 110kph but I didnt feel confident in that because of the source.

Hellsslave666 thanks for that info, that’s pretty fast for sure. I’ve clocked April at a max speed of 29 mph. Thats One of the main reasons I set it up for a short sprint instead of a longer run, I’m pretty positive That in a long run April will leave David in the dust.

I actually was considering buying a Belgian Malinois. They are pretty cool Dogs as well and I believe their gene pool is a lot more diverse. For instance because April is military bred she has a lot of allergies. Dogs with a more diverse gene pool have a lot less issues
