I still play guitar and I credit Deron Miller and CKY for inspiration. Awesome band and an excellent video, thank you.
This is exactly why Id always hear "Be easy to work with" a million times while going to music school. Its so true. You can be a virtuoso on your instrument but if you're hard to work with and tour with, you might as well go work at the bank!
I was ready to hear about The Pheonix and Matt leaving again as well as Synergy Restored and all of that band leaving I didn't even realize 40 minutes of my time had passed. Great vid

For every 10 summers you spend in a band, the likelihood of strife and/or break up goes up exponentially. This has been true of countless bands ad memoriam. I miss CKY with Deron deeply, but that hardship isn't worth it to force them back together just to reminisce over old songs. We have what they released forever, and we have the memories we attached to those albums. I got the chance to see them at the start of the Carver City tour in 2009, and it was incredible. I blew my ears out basically off that one show and caught Jess's drum stick. RIP OG CKY.
Right. Imagine having an unstable person like Deron all around you, 24/7 glued to your ass in a tour bus or studio for years. The way they continued may not be perfect, but still better than continue working with him and being stuck in a endless loop of drama.
Fantastic video! Would love to see another one featuring your rundown of 'Carver City' track by track. If it's not too greedy to ask, I would also love videos on 'The Phoenix,' 'Camp Pain' and 'Synergy Restored.' Keep up the great work. Love this channel!
While they're still my favorite band, when Deron split with CIG and Jess-Jess, I felt as though the halcyon days of CKy were over. I have enjoyed both the continuing music of CKy as well as WUB & 96BB. I wish Mom and Dad were still married, tho ya know what I mean?
Hah, that’s funny you mention it. There was originally about 7-10 minutes of extra narration that I cut out that kind of got into the whole “being the children of two divorced parents” thing.
I feel this lol not a huge fan of CKY's music since but Deron's band has been putting out that classic CKY vibe being he was the riff master and singer
@arcanesugar Can confirm. I welcome your snide, derisive mockery since, thanks to CKy's impact on me, I actually find it rather pitiful. I like what I like and that's what I like. That being said, give yer fuckin balls a tug, tit fucker.
96 Bitter Beings, fronted by Deron Miller - Synergy Restored is an absolute masterpiece album, front to back! Also - phenomenal outro using the end of Stripped Your Speech.
I tried to get into 96BB but to me it suffers from the same thing The Pheonix did, weak vocals that almost get lost amongst the instrumentals and the songs just weren't very memorable.
And with that, an era, and my musical life during my teens/twenties ends. It would be interesting to see the post-OG-lineup albums of both CKY and 96BB. Keep it up.
The world under blood album is a masterpiece in my opinion. It feels like Deron really needed to let it all out on that record, very personal lyrics and a lot of emotion in the songs, it’s basically a heavy metal CKY record, I love it.
Wow man just happened to look up your reviews of the other cky albums and seen you just dropped this how awesome thanks for Putting out such awesome cky content
Your long awaited return and your biggest video yet. Much deserved. I have to say , thank you for not only covering this, but for making a great video in the process. Well paced, entertaining and filled with useful information. There aren’t too many CKY videos and the biggest one on YT is terrible. I don’t wanna talk bad about other RUclipsrs, but the one with the most views on CKY is awful. It’s just a Wikipedia read though, and terrible one that skips important info and offered nothing new that you can’t get off wiki. Even at 20 minutes, it dragged. You’ve made a full length documentary at this point, but they’re so well made, I’ve shared them and rewatched them. I can’t stress enough the great work you’ve done with this series.
Thanks so much for watching! I really wanted to lay down as much information as I possibly could..and believe me I’m familiar with that other CKY video, it was part of the reason I decided to come back and actually tell the real story!
Quite a nasty saga, eh? but glad I was able to take you back to those times! I myself am now hooked again on all things CKY after the hours of writing and editing this monster hah
I just watch this video again 3 months later and it feels like the cky doco we needed. Now it feels like you have to finish the story with part 5 the phoenix/campain/synergy restored and old dogs new tricks(after its release).
I appreciate that a ton man. Personally, I don’t see another video on the saga coming unless some major events happen. Sure records were released, lineups changed, and a whole host of personal developments took place, but I believe the story is still playing out. I think COVID really slowed down CKY & 96 in unique ways, and everything has been in baby steps ever since However, I do plan on creating “The Story of CKY” which will feature re-recorded audio, re-editing, and expand on the stories in my Vol 1, IDR, and AACBF videos and compile the entire story from 1992-2016.
I saw them in 2009 on their tour supporting Carver City. It was the single best concert I've ever been to. CKY without Derron is mostly pointless, especially with 96 Bitter Beings putting out what is sonically the actual continuation of CKY.
found your channel/ this vid looking for groundhog session songs 1&2, the carver city “demos”… this is quality and i subscribed. Åppreciate the effort that went into this; as much as it sucks that cky is dead and buried, we still have a very nice subset of albums to turn to for nostalgia’s sake. IDR is absolute fire this time of year.
Loving the channel. I'd never listened to CKY before finding your videos but I've had Escape from Hellview on over and over the past day or two. Thanks for opening my eyes and ears to a band I was aware of but never checked out back in the day.
THIS is what I created the channel for!! To bring a fresh perspective and hopefully turn people on to bands/albums that deserve a second glance! My comments on those Metallica videos have been a shit show of people bickering at each other, something I definitely wasn’t prepared for lol. But I’m glad that someone is finally digging the vibes and getting something positive from my vids! Let me know how you like the rest of CKY’s stuff!
I actually booked one of the CKY/Foreign Objects shows you featured toward the end. I must have been 20 at the time as I was in elementary school when CKY peaked. I remember thinking it was SO cool that I had Bam Margera’s legal team trying to get my show cancelled hahaha
Saw CiG and Jess play with the latest version in Nashville the other day. Still pretty epic. 96BB and Deron been putting out good stuff too. Bummed that they cant get back together though
I love this band and the whole CKY! I'm happy I got to see them live at least once before. Ya know. It was right after Culver City came out and even tho the show was Awesome ( even got to meet Darren and talk to him for a bit)., they sounded great, you could kinda tell it was close to the end, I'm sure they had a set list but it was pretty much the crowd yelling out songs, I shouted" rats in the infirmary" cuz I knew they probably wanted to play new stuff! and Chad was like" they don't want to hear that😅 " it was an awesome time fun Regardless, I grew up with these guys the music the videos, , awesome work on the video!
I know this is very unlikely. But, as time goes on and no ones getting any younger. I just wish these dude can get together, be open and honest with each other. Work out their differences, aknowlege whats done is done and bury the hatchet already. Life is fragile. Nothing hurts more in the end than regret.
I was never to much into CKY, just wasn't exactly my cup of tea but I had so much respect for their music because it was so unique. I'm sure there's examples but I myself still haven't heard a band that sounds like they did in the early years. I've always liked acoustic music & lighter rock, the song 'close yet far' is still to this day on every playlist I make, beautiful song. Growing up a skateboarder in the early 2000's, CKY holds a special place in my heart and I do listen to them from time to time.
Derron is such a good riff writer, he was CKY. It’s almost offensive to me that chad and Jess continue to tour as CKY without the primary creative factor. Imagine Van Halen without Eddie, or guns and roses sans slash. It ain’t the same
I love this band especially volume 1 and destroy rebuild. Carver city is good too but I hate an answer can be found. The new album without Darons voice is just not good because his voice is an integral part of the sound. Thankfully darons new band sounds just like cky haha. Amazing video earned my sub mate
I saw them in Memphis and he was pitching about the mic feedback the entire time. They played for an hour and walked off. Didn't say anything to the fans. Didn't show up at all before the set. The new tour is a cash grab.
I felt it started to fall apart when Vern left. There's a few good songs on AACBF but Vol 1 and IDR the entire albums were quality and most of the songs played live.
Deron is such a chill guy, he is now the frontman of malevolent creation. We were supporting them just 5 days ago and i got the chance to talk to him for a bit
I’ve checked out some clips of him playing with MC! He sounds great, almost exactly like Bret Hoffman! Glad to see him having fun and still doing his thing. Cheers!
I saw them the year Reagan died. I talked to Chad Ginsburg after they played and he pulled out a bag of jelly bellys and said he liked them a lot because they were Reagan’s favorite snack. He gave me a couple and I still have one that he gave me.
lol its even more wild where it is now.. With Bam on the outs with almost everyone, and hes peaked in terms of less and less people caring about him being a meth head these days, being a deadbeat etc. He must be losing most the safety net of cash too, Deron could potentially like pull the publishing and all that away eventually.
@chris_michael_s it's like they went through the catalog and picked the most basic songs and said ok here's our setlist. Cig is a good producer and all but c'mon, no deron no anything
26:00 I can Remember back in the IDR days when ASK CKY had Chad, Jess and Derron talking about pre ordering 3/4 albums at their local record store, giving a fake address and never picking them up. Why? So that stores would be forced to put it on the shelves to try to sell it. You can't expect your fans to show that level of loyalty and support without sometimes getting bitten on the hand by them.
CKY is the ultimate example of wasted potential. They did get screwed by some people around them, but they screwed themselves harder than anyone else could have. Monumental unfounded egos, drugs, and alcohol.
Ita such a shame. Nothing else sounds like them so its always just going back ro the same few albums to scratch that itch. Those riffs were so unique to just that band.
They had such a great sound at the time. It felt more like "groove metal" than a 'grunge' or alt. band; something you could sing along and bang your head to! Also, some of the best guitar riffs in the game
It's funny that Deron said that his stuff wouldn't be on streaming platforms. If it wasn't for Spotify, I would never have known 96BB even existed, lol. I really want more CKY music because I truly liked The Pheonix, but I don't think I'll hold out too much hope for a new record.
If you put the best tracks of Camp Pain and Synergy together its a pretty solid album you could make. way better than anything cky has released post deron
waiting for this was like waiting to hit the jackpot.. 😅 lots of rarites I missed out on.. and I'm friends with deron on Facebook since 2009 and fuck the phoenix album...
15:00 Bam also put his own money into that single release of UNDERWORLD and the music video. The song hadn't really gotten much attention as part of the JACKASS 3D soundtrack, and it wasn't used prominently in the film like FLESH INTO GEAR was.
Compare the latest two 96BB releases to the latest CKY material and you can see where the writing talent is hands down. Some absolute belters on the 96BB albums.
I guarantee they replaced the drums because Jess was having trouble playing to a click track. Up until just a few years ago lots of bands recorded in a “live setting” but those days are gone with all of the digital programs etc. They track everything individually now to a click. (Especially if the band is fighting and emailing each other their tracks) It wouldn’t surprise me if this was the first time Jess was forced to use a click, his strongest attribute is his meter. Although he’s not a virtuoso (Jess would be the first to tell you that) he does have excellent timing and plays naturally ON the beat.
What you’re saying sounds way more in line with reality than the claims that Roadrunner forced them to use drum replacement. And considering they’d never recorded to a click until Carver City, it makes sense that Jess would run into some first time click-recording issues.
@@adarkerstandard I always hated playing to a click. I’m sure Jess hated it too. It removes the humanity from music. They are literally forcing the drummer to be more like a computer and less like a person. Unfortunately it is the way of the world now.
chad had no business continuing cky. the phoenix was not good. the fact that deron founded the band and wrote almost all the music and they said he couldn’t take the cky name is infuriating. he’s working hard under a new moniker with significantly less views and fans. all because jess bam and chad refused to let him have it
It's a bummer what happened after CC. What an amazing album, but I can at least accept it figuratively as their last album. I hate what happened between the guys, but I think that Chad wanted to pull the rug out from under Deron because he had serious issues instead of taking a break. All in all though, it's not my business and I'll never really know based on people's differing opinions or our biases, although I think we can all agree that after all the nostalgia, Bam is a piece of shit. Also, World Under Blood is absolutely amazing. Straight up underrated album.
Deron almost fell into what Paul Stanley and gene Simmons did in 1978, “oh guys if we make our own records and release them ass kiss it’ll bring us closer together and make us save our band” did deron not remember how the kiss solo albums sold and hurted members of the band more?
I needed this. As a long time fan of CKY, this provided a sense of closure that I suppose I was missing. I've been listening to them a lot lately, and hadnt listened to them in many years.
I still play guitar and I credit Deron Miller and CKY for inspiration.
Awesome band and an excellent video, thank you.
Dude...your voice....research and the way you put this upload together was perfect. You should be proud of this. I really enjoyed it. Thanks
Deron Miller is a classic case of the talented artist with severe behavior issues. Shame he's so difficult since he really is an inventive guitarist.

With Bam on the outs with almost everyone, and hes peaked in terms of less and less people caring about him being a meth head these days, being a deadbeat etc. He must be losing most the safety net of cash too, Deron could potentially like pull the publishing and all that away eventually.
cKy without Deron is embarrassing. Can't believe they even have the nerve to call themselves cKy.
It’s like a terrible cover band. Can’t even play disengage the simulator anymore
@chris_michael_s it's like they went through the catalog and picked the most basic songs and said ok here's our setlist. Cig is a good producer and all but c'mon, no deron no anything
If you listen to the new re-recordings deron just released, it's super apparent that deron needs chad and jess
i rlly liked the video for Afterworld, it was fun.
Wow, Ginsburg grew into a horribly pretentious adult. Was hoping he'd grow out of that. His trip to GG's grave was the grossest thing ever.....
Ita such a shame. Nothing else sounds like them so its always just going back ro the same few albums to scratch that itch. Those riffs were so unique to just that band.
What albums would you say do that for you
They had such a great sound at the time.
They were never the same after sacking Vern. The fun left them.
Who?
If you put the best tracks of Camp Pain and Synergy together its a pretty solid album you could make. way better than anything cky has released post deron
Hands down my favorite album.
Finally. I thought you would never get to this.
Where did you get the old warped tour footage?

midnight trip! from Carver city shore! 🎵
waiting for this was like waiting to hit the jackpot.. 😅
lots of rarites I missed out on.. and I'm friends with deron on Facebook since 2009
and fuck the phoenix album...
I guess I'm in the minority that think An Answer Can Be Found is their best record easily, and Carver City is their worst.
I remember the day the WUB dropped on myspace. Oh man what a time. They broke up at winter lol
Where could we find early version or demos from AACBF?
Amazing
Honestly loved carver city
I love how Chad was against putting out a solo album and then did anyway
Cky died in 2005
I cant even believe there was actually more albums after those days 😂 did not notice at all, after the early 00's times
do you know what live is at 9:00 or a like link or something?? 😭
at 34:15 it says Bam was forced to change name by Tom Yeto. What was it originally called?
The distribution company Tum Yeto made Bam change the name from Camp Kill Yourself to CKY before the tape released.
chad had no business continuing cky. the phoenix was not good. the fact that deron founded the band and wrote almost all the music and they said he couldn’t take the cky name is infuriating. he’s working hard under a new moniker with significantly less views and fans. all because jess bam and chad refused to let him have it
Can you do a rundown of the difference between Chad I. Ginsburg and Vince Russo
Of course not, bro! I hate that bastard Hulk Hogan, bro.
Hahaha what a comparison! Can you explain?
Also, amazing video, just like the previous three.
BRO!
They shouldn't have left island everything fell apart once they signed with roadrunner
I just saw them for their 25th anniversary tour PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO PHOENIX
I’m just speculating here, but I think Deron might have thought that with CKY releasing 4 solo albums, only one would actually sound like CKY.
