    When you soldered the wires into the stock harness did it matter which side the positive or negative went on?

    • @joesdiy4260
      @joesdiy4260  3 года назад +5

      If you wire in multiple speakers then as long as you are consistent from side to side, you will be fine. For example, when wiring the door speakers, I think both had a black wire. I just put those black wires to the negative spot marked on the speaker and I was good. You will not blow anything up if you flip these around, the only thing that might happen is that the sound may come out distorted. So simply flip the polarity and it should solve the issue.
      Besides all that, you should always test your new set up prior to re installing the door panel and trim in case something doesn't work correctly because you will have it all opened up to diagnose and fix the issue. I hope this helps.

      @@boji-boji positive negative definitely matters. if one side is reversed from the other the vocals particularly will try to cancel each side out making them diminished. Also it will not build an sound pressure at higher volume levels as each side is trying to cancel the other. I am disappointed he glossed over this critically important part.

    Hi Joseph, first I'd like to say, excellent video and good job with everything! So I was both commenting and asking, are you still running the stock stereo? I'd like to match my replacement speakers as close to my stock stereo's RMS specs as possible. Of course after perusing several videos of door panel removal, I still have yet to determine if my front speakers are the problem I'm having or it's possibly the stereo's output to the front speakers. That being said, I think you did a great job re-using the OEM speaker clip and harness connector. I probably will also do that if I end up replacing the speakers. Keep up the good work!

    I am about to do something like this on my sons 2006 Silverado. Question: I see there is a separate tweeter and woofer. If I installed a new 6.5 coax speaker in the woofer location - would it only be getting lows? Like is there a secret low/high pass filter somewhere sending lows to the woofer and highs to the tweeter? Or is the tweeter and woofer just spliced parallel together and the tweeter has a high pass soldered on it? Also wouldn't that drop the ohm since they are both on the same wire? Like two 8 ohm speakers on one wire would be 4 correct? Trying to figure out if I should just leave the tweeter off or what. Thanks!

      Just did this to my dads 2005 Silverado recently. The entire stereo system was stock but his front 6.5" speakers had fallen apart.
      I replaced those speakers with Pioneer TS-652F. They are 3-way, 4 ohm, 6.5 inch, 70w rms, 320w peak, 87dB sensitivity.
      The highs, mids, and lows, come through on the new Pioneer speakers, and the separate stock tweeters still put out their highs.
      As far as I understand, the front mid woofers and tweeters receive the same signal, but the tweeters have their own high pass. I would assume the tweeters are a parallel yet completely separate wire feed that receives less power than the mid woofer does, but I'm not sure.
      I thought about disconnecting the stock tweeters and tying their wire feed into the mid woofer wire feed for potentially more power output to the new Pioneers, but I ended up leaving the stock tweeters connected mostly because dad prefers clarity over punch.
      The stock head unit was enough to push the new Pioneers and they sound good. Far better than stock. They would probably sound even better with quite a bit more power from an aftermarket head unit, but dads a simple man. Still plenty loud and even the bass is surprisingly potent especially when listening to bassy type music, though that requires the stock head unit bass setting to be at max. The volume at 50% is extremely loud yet with no distortion at all, and dad always keeps it below about 20%.
      FYI, If your sons truck has the stock Bose system, there are 3 ohm and 2 ohm speakers used so they're not quite as simple to replace as the standard stock sound system. You'll know if it's Bose because the door speaker mesh says Bose on it.

Higher efficient speaker ,30 rms better then one w 100 rms? Looking at Kenwood KfC E1665 two way that is 92 db efficient. It is 30 RMS and there must be a cross over somewhere that sends higher HZ to tweeter not to the midrange. If the speaker checks out fine then I would go to your local library or community College to find a factory service manual and test the connection between the door harness and the speaker and then the door harness to the head unit (if that is where the speaker is getting wired to). Good luck!

      Taping the tweeter in was wrong. With the heat in the cab during the summer, the tape will turn into a gooey mess.
      Your wiring connector should have been mounted to the speaker and not left dangling in the door.
      The wiring polarity has already been addressed.
      It's only my opinion and I get a bit anal when I do projects/upgrades.

    Doesnt the factory amp require 2 ohm speakers?

    • @joesdiy4260
      @joesdiy4260  Год назад

      I honestly have no idea. I didnt have any issue with these speakers and they sounded really good. I am just a dude that installed speakers in his truck and made a video about it.

      That's only for the stock Bose system. The standard stock system uses 4 ohm speakers.

      I've installed 4-ohm speakers into a 2-ohm system, and visa-versa. Didn't notice a dang thing in both cases. I even wired two 2-ohm speakers in a series to make that particular channel equal to 4 omhs since the system was 4 omhs. Couldn't tell any difference at all. The biggest difference-maker I've experienced is making sure the polarity of all your speakers is identical. When I was a noob, I initially didn't pay attention to the polarity and the sound was pretty bad and I had to take everything apart again to match polarity.

    Which colors from the factory harness are positive and negative

    • @joesdiy4260
      @joesdiy4260  3 года назад

      I honestly didn't test it, I think both sides had a black wire and just used that as my negative. As long as you are consistent between sides you will be fine. If you flip polarity then you MIGHT get a distorted sound, just flip it the other way around and test to see if the distortion went away. Hope this helps and take care.
