After buying this truck I talked about several things I needed to address. Since I drive this about 70 miles a day I need something to listen to. Only 1 speaker worked in the entire truck. I decided to pick up some cheap replacement speakers. These are by far better than the factory speakers. They have rubber surrounds which should last longer and sound better. In this video I show you how to install the speakers in the doors of you NBS Silverado or Sierra. The process works on GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado. It should also be the same in a Tahoe or Yukon for these years. I show you how to remove the door panel and old speakers. I also show you how the adapters work for the speakers on the front door. If you are looking for good replacement speakers for your silverado or sierra I think these are a great budget option.

It was very satisfying to see all those speakers replaced and working properly. Great video man!
Great video Sir. Thank you for providing so much instructional content on the NBS trucks. I have an 02 extended cab and all my teenage kids want something like mine. Your channel has motivated me to start looking for good deals and then work together with my kids to restore some old trucks back to new. I'm also partial to the 99-02 frontend, but my kids like em both.
Thank you. I love comments like this. Helps me stay motivated to make more videos
Another great video. Changed the speakers in my 2000 chevy silverado last week, 6.5" in front and 4"x6" in rear, reused factory brackets and Metra wire adapters. Reminded me of high school days in the driveway also. ✌
Thank you. Yeah back to old school stereo stuff lol
Installing radios in the driveway is where I learned my stuff. Good stuff man!
Lol. Me too
Nice video. GREAT Gloves. Lol. Love watching your videos on these trucks. Best trucks ever made. Wish they would make them again.
Thank you
Trucks looking good. Always enjoy your videos.
Thank you Kyle
Coming from someone who worked in a stereo shop for some time... getting the wires correct on the back of a speaker is actually important. Having it wrong for some people can cause random headaches. Quick and easy way to check the wiring correct is take the factory speaker and leave a little wire... and use a 5 volt battery and simply tap the wires to the battery... if the cone moves out then the polarity is correct and now you know how to wire it. That is the quick down and dirty way to do it FYI.
Thank you for that information. I did that on my newest one but not with a battery
Thank you for correcting this hack installation guy, wires DO matter which way they go! WTF?
@@dezford5408 So from my experience if you have one correct and one wrong, in SOME people if you have the wires crossed and one working correct and one wrong it will make people sick. Something to do with equilibrium. When I worked in stereo shops back in the early 2000's I had only 1 customer explain that the stereo made them sick at high volumes and when we checked his home install we found that he had crossed 2 of his 4 door speakers.
I came straight to the comments right after he said it didn’t matter 😅
If you get the polarity backwards on every speaker most people will never notice but if you get three right and one wrong you can 100% notice it
man if you do an episode on how to recharge the AC and lay down insulation under carpet ( esp on the back of the cab and roof) you will literally have taught me about like 90% of everything I wanted or have done to my truck!. Thanks Travis!
Lol. May do those down the road
What a great day! TWA Motor sports uploaded a video of the crew cab and Lawrence Tallman started a single cab build. What a day!
Lol
Good Thursday evening TW... I'm just getting home from work and just started watching your video on my Big flat screen tv with surround sound.. 👍
Nice.
@@TWAMotorsports TW great tutorial as always buddy.. keep up the great content 👍
Thank you very much
I am an installer and have been for 20+ years. It does matter which wire is positive and negative. Having it reversed causes the speaker to break up audio at higher volumes and also Leeds to pre-mature voice coil failure. The video is great and very informative but make sure you are telling your subscribers correct information.
I agree
Those are really nice and clear speakers its what i use on everything
Thank you. That's good to know
Thanks Will!!
Hey TW. My friend has done Car Audio professionally his entire life. A lesson he told me on GM vehicles is that the positives are light colors in front and darks colors in the back. I’ll never forget that. Lol. We have always used Image Dynamics and love them and Pioneer head units! I love mine!!
Thank you for that tip.
you should become a “takuache” if you know what those are 😂😂😂
No thanks
🤣🤣🤣
Noooo
His content is much better wouldn’t downgrade
That’s for teens
Thanks, worked perfectly
Awesome
Sweet Vid man
Thank you
Just received same GM adapters. Use screws that come with speaker and screw down speaker to bracket and clip into place. Four screws per speaker. Also GM kit 82-GM1 FROM Metra has wiring harness adapter.
Nice.
If you order from Crutchfield , which BTW has tons of specification and fitment info at your finger tips.
But, yeah, if you order from them, they typically include Gratas (for free) the pigtails to go from the speaker to your factory wiring harness..did I mention FREE.
I was impressed with those guys in so many ways.
I mentioned in my review that one of the connectors had come apart in the install phase. They actually contacted me to send ANOTHER set for free!
But, not knowing how great they are, I had already ordered another set of 4 for about $5 from amazon.
So don't cut your factory harness if you don't want to. Just buy the adapter pigtails and plug them right in.
When I put new speakers in my NBS, I bolted them directly to the door. When I put new speakers in my dad's, I pried the old speakers off of the plastic brackets, scraped all the foam and fabric off the other side, and clipped them back into the door. Then I bolted the speakers onto the door using the brackets as spacers. That put the speakers right at the opening. I had to be careful reinstalling the door panels so I didn't tear the surrounds on the new speakers. I wish I had done the same with my truck. I'm tempted to pick up some factory speakers at the junkyard so I can.
I have done that in the past also
Good job, T. Just in time for me to apply to my Sub.
Thank you
Great video as always try some fabric paint on that carpet lol
Thank you. I would but the fiber is gone.
Crutch field sells wiring harnesses, based off whatever model your car you drive so that way you can plug your aftermarket speakers into your plugs in your door so you don’t have to cut or splice it saves so much time
They are nice if it hasn't already been cut up
@@TWAMotorsports yea some people like to play Frankenstein when they try to do audio systems and mess it up real bad for the next owner. But you still nailed it though
Thank you
If you haven’t decided on which head unit to put in, I highly recommend the Sony XAV-AX1000. Comes with apple CarPlay and android auto already installed and at a great price. Installed mine on my ‘06 Sierra crew cab along with a set of pioneers and it sounds great. You’d just need to get a dash kit for the head unit though!
I have a pioneer I think I am doing
I have the same unit and it looks so flush and good on the truck doesn’t look tacky or out of place
They do look nice
It makes a huge difference on sound if you have the negative/positive backwards. Specially if only one is backwards.
Thank you for the heads up.
Speakers have polarities, it’s a must that these are installed correctly. As long as both/all speakers are consistent with wire-to-speaker lead connections, then “Out of phase” can be avoided. Since you mentioned that the wiring inside are messed up anyway, so it’s difficult to identify its correct polarity. By listening to the sound(specially the Bass) you can definitely tell.
Correct and I fix that in a video soon
I will usually take the plastic wiring connectors off of the factory speaker and use them to create little jumper connections for the new speakers using the wires that come with them.
Not a bad idea
Just an FYI, The screw on the bottom of the door panel does not need to come out. It does not fasten the panel to the door. All it does is secure the “tray” to the door panel itself.
Correct unless you have a crank window truck
I use crutchfield for all of my car stereo. Because you get all of the harness adapters, Everything is plug and play.
Yes they are a great company
I recommend use the plug and play speaker wiring hardness by metra , cleaner & faster install
I should have tried those
I’d love to see you do a 2500hd gas burner build I can’t find nobody that makes good videos on them!
Yeah that isn't my favorite truck look so don't know if that will happen
I replaced all the factory speakers on my 04, the fronts looked like yours but barely worked they were buzzing and popping. I bought jumper pigtails on Amazon that plugged into the factory plug and the other end had leads the plugged into aftermarket speakers.
That is nice to have
You could of used the plastic speaker holder on the fronts also just thought you'd like to know
Just about to order up some new speakers for my truck. I put in a new head unit a month ago. Still have stock speakers. I have some mileage money from using my truck for work so new speakers it is! How do you like those? Also, I tested before I put the unit in, but I still have to take it out. Need to adjust the amp and check some things for a whine I get. Move grounds or signal wires likely.
Yeah generally grounds. I like them. They are not the best but good for the money
You can use the old speaker frame. That’s what I did with my 99
I thought about that later
That makes the installation look easier. I have a 2005 Silverado with worn speakers but my old truck is actually a 2006 that has Bose speakers that are still good. Do you know since they are one year apart if I could take the ones out of the 06 and put them in my 05 by just plugging them in? Thanks
You could but doubt they would sound good as they are different ohm speakers I believe. Need the bose amp to make them sound decent. More trouble to add that then it is worth.
They have a spray for the carpet the same color you should try it out for a quick fix
Its actually missing fiber
Anyone have issues with the switches? I have a 2003 Yukon that the front driver switches half of them only light up and the passanger and rear passanger don’t light up as well.? Anyone if you had this same prob lmk
What did you do with factory tweeters that are in the door panel? reconnect them?
I did reconnect them
When I put new door speakers in my silverado my new speakers fit in the factory little snap in adapter. Didn't have to buy any adapters or make any modifications
That would have been nice
I would also recommend putting some foam behind the speaker
For the water or ?
It just helps with sound quality
I see
amazon sells a adapter for direct factory plug in wire
Yes but likely I will never go back to stock
I run a wire from the lighter fuse and my ground from metal post behind radio so it comes on and off as you turn your car off
Or you can buy a proper harness and it is plug and play.
Hi Travis, I watch you often and I like your videos and the work you do. I have a question for you, my son has a 2004 Silverado 1500 and the brakes keep wanting to lock up when driving it then when it cools a bit, it releases it. What could this be?
Sounds like calipers need replaced
O ok thank you
Calipers or brake lines
Agree
Thanks for the responses! I will look into it
Do you know if these speakers would be better than the factory Bose speakers. Are some that would be way better ?
Just about every speaker is better than this old of bose unit
What... you can’t get jiggy with that?
Thanks bud
🍻
Hi. Just started watching your video. I tried getting the antenna out to switch mine out but couldn’t get it? Wondering if any one had an ideas that would help? Mine is a 2010. Thank you for any help. Going to finish the video now. Have a good day
Sometimes they freeze up. Try turning while pulling
Hi. Ok thank you-just didn’t wanna brake it was all-will give it a shot in a bit. Have a good day
You're welcome and good luck
The Bose speakers are fine from factory in the LT models
If they are good and not blown. I agree
Travis, I need some headlights for my 2001 silverado. Do you like the TYC brand or is there another? Thanks man.
Tyc like I use on all of them is my go to
Depo is also a good brand, but TYC is great as well
Never used depo
@@TWAMotorsports they are very decent as well, have them on my silverado and my dad's F150
Nice.
On a different video, a guy bought the exact same speakers but he put the solid black ones (6532 ex) in the front doors and the other ones in the rear door. Can't think of the you tubers name but he has a black truck like yours that he calls "chomper". Anyways, which ones go in which door? (Infinity ref 6532/6530)
Could be mine were sent wrong
Kinda nice if the guy can tell you what year of truck he's working on. In fact even better, put it on the video title.
Also, he finally mentions about 14 minutes in that he bought a 6 1/2 inch speaker.
It would be helpful to start out..
" Today were looking at installing a pair of Infiniti X6521X into this 2005 Chevy Crew Cab".
I know, I know, who wants to sound like all those professionals out there, when we can play the guessing game!
I mean really, is that to much to ask?
I notice he put a link for the speakers. Helpful but not. Probly getting a commission from everyone that clicks that link . Good on him,
But I'd kinda like to know what I'm clicking on.
These doors come with a 6 3/4" and can easily handle a 6 or 6 1/2 with the adapter ring .
In my book, bigger is usually better, but I actually found a pair of Polk DB652 that claim to reach all the way down to 40Hz which is about as close as you can get to sub range without going to an actual subwoofer. Only ones I could find with that response and up to 22k. I haven't been dissappointed so far. Even with the OEM radio. I think my dissapointment is going to be the 4x6s in the rear pillar of my older crew cab. They're up next .
Happy rockin'
Can't please everyone I guess. This is a hobby and just sharing my experience
Show me how to take off rear door panel
I did a window regulator that show the removal
I’m in between these and deafbounce.. not really sure what to get😅
Never heard of them
Where’s the cabin filter in this year?
Behind glove box
Why couldn't you use hear shrink tubing instead of tape?
You could I guess
@TWA can you give me the part numbers for the vapor barriers on both rear doors? Plz!!!
I have no idea what they are
@@TWAMotorsports it’s those plastic covers that are under the door panels. You can see a PN on them but it’s not clear enough for me to make out.
If I take them off again I will look
What size speakers did you use?
6 1/2 If I remember correctly. Link in video description
Do you know why on my crew cab my back doors dont unlocked when i try to with the switch or the key fob
Probably door lock actuators
@@TWAMotorsports i changed the back two and did the same thing i could lock it but the wont unlock and when i put the new one on it did the same also just lock but not unlock
Check relay and fuses
@@TWAMotorsports honestly im new to the truck thing and tried reading them but don’t understand half of them
And if your radio is turning on all the time sounds like he used the all time power for both wires
How are they holding up?
Sold the truck but no complaints from new owner.
I wish I would’ve know about the black plastic before drilled into the door 😭
Yeah. They aren't perfect fit but can be made to work
What do you have for your double din?
Cheap boss that came with the truck. Coming out soon
@@TWAMotorsports what’s gonna be next 🤔 I’ll be following
No idea
I didn't know Will Farrow liked working on his own vehicles.
Lol. I hear that a lot
Definitely wrong about the speaker connections. All the speakers need to be wired the same or it negatively effects the sound.
The wiring is messed up in the dash so no idea what was what. I will sort that out when we fix the hack job in the dash.
That 7mm in the bottom of the front door is just to hold that door pocket in.
Correct
Did you get that dent taken out of the bed
Not yet but soon
You say you don't know why certain things are the way they are, cut harness, missing speakers, etc. 🤔 Sounds like the truck was broken in before. Cause no one just cuts wire harness to install a radio.
Several people that don't know how to install the correct way generally cut stuff up
Changing that carpet will be a good idea
Eventually I hope to
Watching the video's are very motivating ....great work good job
I would like to see the video of you changing that RADIO it's killing the battery
Thank you. I need someone to motivate me sometimes lol
Coming soon
Pry the original mount off old speaker and reuse it on the new one.
I have in the past
From the picture it looks like it will be hard to close the door, huh?
Nope
You should’ve gone with the kappa
Just wanted cheap upgrade
That tar stuff on the plastic, I call it venom! I hate it. 😂
Its nasty!
Don't feel like scrowling down through the comments but I'm about 100% sure that stain in your passenger side is bleach
It is. I guess
We’re not going to worry about wiring these up correctly 😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah talked about this in a later video
13:15 a decision was made
Yep. Snapped it off. Lol
It doesn't matter either way that's polarity and that does matter smh
Infinity is good stuff but the memphis you bought was the cheapest they make you'd have been happier buying a better line of memphis
Yeah I just wanted a cheap upgrade
@@TWAMotorsports understand that, what's up with the TA still waiting on parts. I just got my truck fixed and took my 6.0 iron block to the machine shop, plans are to do a 408 stroker and a 4L80E
I have parts just need time and motivation
@@TWAMotorsports understand that as well
Heat shrink bro!
I agree. Should have
The one on the bottom of the door panel doesn't need to come out. It's to hold the map pocket into the door panel.
As far as the speaker polarity, it ABSOLUTELY matters. The large blade is usually positive, small is negative, and they usually have a black and or red dot on one or both. They'll play hooked up backwards, but they'll also sound like garbage because the speaker is moving inward instead of outward, limiting the excursion of the cone at bare minimum.
I agree on the bottom screw and polarity. Need to remake those parts.
music sounds like a rave pit from the southern banks of wales in 2013....
Lol. Copyright free music blows.
Bro you forgot one speaker in the middle
Mine doesn't have one there
@@TWAMotorsports I got lbz and in the middle console front there’s a speaker I never knew that till I took it off
Yeah if it was a factory console with bose it usually has a sub there
😢
All the money people spend for a new truck. You would think the least G.M . would do is put a decent set of speakers in them. Instead you get junky speakers made in china.
That's true
You talk a bit too much, you could’ve made this nearly 1 hour video into a 5 minute one
Probably right. I appreciate the feedback
Can 6.5 fit in a 01 silverado?
I believe so
