Below are the different phases of labor and what kinds of positions work best to open up each part of the pelvis. I have my patients explore and practice these positions & movements starting around week 38.
    1. At beginning of labor we want to open up the TOP of the Pelvis. This means positions where your legs are wide - think frog legs.
    2. As baby is engaging into the pelvis we want to open up the MIDDLE of the Pelvis. For this, side-to-side movements are helpful.
    3. As we prepare to push, we want to open the BOTTOM of the pelvis. For this, positions where your knees are wider than your feet help to create more space between your sits bones.
One last note...your body is SMART and will naturally guide you into these positions or other ones that feel best for you. Lean into that and trust your body.
