One of the very BEST vlogs of Ephesus. Thanks so much for showing the proximity to Seljuk. I know when we went, our tour guide/ bus stopped to pick some guests from Seljuk but didn’t realize one could walk to Ephesus. We stayed at Kusadaşı when visiting but I see that Seljuk is worth to stay at to walk to Ephesus instead of being in a tour now that we know the place. Thanks so much for sharing the historical facts too. Always a great part of traveling besides the scenery and mingling with the wonderful people! LOVE Turkey 🇹🇷 from USA.
Ephesos (/ˈɛfəsəs/; Greek: Ἔφεσος Ephesos; Turkish: Efes) was an ancient Greek city on the coast of Ionia, three kilometres southwest of present-day Selçuk in İzmir Province, Turkey. It was built in the 10th century BC on the site of the former Arzawan capital by Attic and Ionian Greek colonists. During the Classical Greek era it was one of the twelve cities of the Ionian League. The city flourished AFTER it came under the control of the Roman Republic in 129 BC.
Your vlogs are good cause you're really interested with the places that you're going. Most of people don't do that, they're just visiting some places for those places are famous for some reason. Good travels Jason. This Video was so nice, i hope you're having enjoy in Izmir and also in Istanbul 🙋
I have nothing to do with the Turks, but these ancient Turks are ancient Greeks, I come from these places and it is my honor to come from Izmir, my grandmother's parents were from Izmir, they left in 1922
Ephesos . In 1954, a burial ground from the Mycenaean era (1500-1400 BC), which contained ceramic pots, was discovered close to the ruins of the basilica of St. John. This was the period of the Mycenaean expansion, when the Achaioi (as they were called by Homer) began settling in Asia Minor, a process that continued into the 13th century BC. Ephesus was founded as an Attic-Ionian colony in the 10th century BC.The founder of the city was a prince of Athens named Androklos. He named the city Ephesos (Εφεσος) ,a name of an Amazon queen.Ancient sources (Pausanias (4.31.8) seem to indicate that the Mycenean name of the place was Alope (Ancient Greek: Ἀλόπη, romanized: Alópē).
Ephesus Port was much closer in the Roman times. The River Kaystros (Küçük Menderes) filled the area. The flat ground you see between agora and beach was actually the bay of Ephesus.

Omg you are so cute and welcome to Turkey 😻
Wonderful
İt would have been so much easier if you just take the train because train station in Izmir is in very central area and next to the metro etc so you can just use the metro to your accommodation. On the other hand main bus station is little bit far from things. Anyway miss you Izmir.
You need to come here at summer time too now it is so cold :)
