GOOD EVENING FROM USA! Not feeling well today (had back surgery), BUT I began watching " a Day in the Life of Albino elephant calf Khanyisa and the Jabulani HERD" SERIES! I MUST SAY SO MUCH INFORMATION FROM ADINE AND HER DAILY DOCUMENTRARIES! I AM ENJOYING THEM ALL AND THE VIDEOS! WOW! I KNOW HEALING IS A PROCESS SO I AM TAKING MY TIME....THUS WATCHING PRINCESS KHANYISA AND THE REST OF HERD FAMILY. THANK YOU ADINE, YOUR FAMILY (SON & DAUGHTER), ALL CARERS, YOU ALL ARE SO AMAZING!

When my mother was pregnant with me, we lived in Tanzania (Tanganyika, back then). One day they were taking a ride through the bush in an open Landrover when they were surrounded by a very large herd of buffalo. Everyone climbed trees, including my pregnant mother. They tried raising a few orphans they found, including a baby hippo that had been attacked by wild dogs, but they never had much success - except for a baby warthog who survived. When we moved to SA, they left the, now grown, warthog with neighbors. Maybe that's why I've been obsessed with animals since I was a kid.
@@herdelephantorphanage I've been in the US since 1970 and honestly hadn't thought much about going back to SA, but your videos have sure peaked my interest in returning - for the wildlife, anyway.
I put my headphones on to hear this video. I could hear more of the low rumbles of the ellies as you were talking. It was truly amazing. The information you provide in these videos really let us know what the day to day activities are and the sacrifices all are making for the ellies.
You make our day with comments like this, thank you Linda. It's so great to share these moments with you and people around the world. Thank you for watching and enjoy the future rumbles!

Fantastic narrative by Adine. Really enjoyed the information she gave - ellie names, what they were doing and why, etc. It helps so much in understanding more about not only the herd members, but about elephants in general. I’d never noticed the difference in the shape of the front and back feet and had no idea height can be determined by measuring the front foot spore. Thank you for going over all of this!

Connie Wrightsman I know what you mean. I was surprised to learn that elephants as a whole are on the nervous side of the spectrum. Horses are another large animal that also tend to the nervous side.
Absolutely, elephants in the wild or like the Jabulani herd of rescued elephants are still surrounded by the dangers of the bush, with predators threatening their young. No animal in the wild is always confident, and elephants in a herd have to think about more than just themselves as individuals.

elephants have over 150 thousand bones in their trunk!
Do you see how they freeze? They're listening for other elephant communication which can be miles and miles away
Beautiful isn't it? Listening, feeling vibrations, smelling, and processing. And then communicating about it all within their herd... I love it
Are any of the elephants related (as in family or blood relation)?
Adine: have you tried using a camera mounted on some headgear? It would prevent you from having to hold the selfie stick all the time.
Who are they communicating with? Somopane and Sebokwe? Each other? Comforting Khanhisa?
I spoke to soon. You brought it up later in video.
When they eat, do they chop the tree limbs and bark up into fine bits, or is it mostly chunks?
Mostly small chunks :) Their teeth see to the rest.
They are so graceful
