Jon, I’ve got a son who lives in Cornwall and whenever we travel down to see him the weather is total rubbish no matter what time of year it is. Great vid as ever. Thanks.
Hi Jon, health has stopped my fishing, but not watching RUclips. I enjoyed listening to your thoughts as you worked out the best method for this lake which is not one i have fished on the complex. It always rains when i'm in Cornwall, whatever month!! Regards Bill
Love watching these videos. I gave up course match fishing years ago. It shows the commitment and effort required to be top of the game. It’s amazing seeing the advancements in tackle etc. My first pole was so heavy you needed to be Charles Atlas to fish a 4hr match with it. I concentrate on my beach fishing matches now. Far less stressful 😃😃
Glad you like the vids. I must live as far away from a beach as possible, but I'd be fishing on a beach if one was near! (Preferably somewhere like Cuba for bonefish!)
@@JonArthur ha ha you and me both. Incidentally I first started pole fishing about 1975 when I was 8. This was whilst I lived in Malta as my dad was in the RAF. It was used in the sea for catching things like mullet. No elastic in those days. Just hold on for dear life. Great memories and every spare minute was spent fishing in the sunshine.
10-12 red slik is now my favorite/best elastic i've ever used. Its landed me 1oz gudgeon to 16lb lumps,i also use the 8-10 green for small skimmers and very small F1 stockies even caught a 12lb mirror which took me nearly 30 mins to get in on a 0.10mm bottom. It was a miracle i got it in as the fish took around 20m of elastic out of my top kit. Luv it.
@@JonArthur Brilliant stuff. I wasn't keen on hollow as it rots too quick and i've had small bubbles that actually popped the laccy, so having to do 9 topkits 3-4 times a year was a pain, so I'll see how long this lasts before it needs changing. Normal solid I'd change maybe twice a year. There is 1 hollow i did really like and did last a lot longer than any other hollow i've used, and i've used everything from hydro to the cheaper hollows like NG hollow and others and that was prestons dura.
Really interesting video Jon. Loved hearing your thought processes and explaining what changes you were making and why. Great stuff, please keep them coming!
Hi Jon. nice to see you relaxed catching plenty. I followed your advice from a couple of weeks ago, you pointed me in the direction of Ethos rods that wouldn't need a mortgage. So I've got 2 for les than £100. they're 11' Ultra-X. Really are good rods for the previous generation. Well pleased. Thanks for the tip. Can't wait to use them now.
Looks great now it’s been re done, been hoping for the past few years to be done. John my favourite peg is a few pegs to your left in the corner peg. Down to the edges find a nice depth there and the tench and carp love it there to the reeds. 🙏
Great video again, love watching the progression through the session and how you try the different approaches and baits learn something new everytime I watch a new video and will try the PTF hooks
Nice work Jon as always , I tried to get a weeks fishing at white acres but the 2 big comps had all the lodges booked, had to make do with park dean in Dorchester. Keep the vids coming. 👍
I fished Python last week during the really hot spell, the fish are a bit bigger now ! plenty of fish 1 -2lb. IMO all the lakes at Whiteacres lack features to fish to, unless you can get to the far margins, but I was probably fishing it wrong ! Python has a small patch of lilies which produces fish of all sizes, I tend to agree that the fish accumulate on certain pegs.
I’ve found there are two areas of fish and that’s generally dominated by the wind. Better 1-3lb carp dominate the windward areas and then the smaller stockies and carassios fill in the gaps.
It's a few years since I've been to Whiteacres and the intro to the video had me thinking what is this lake, wow they've gone to town chopping Python up! All the trees have gone
Yes it needed a big revamp as only the wider side ever got fished much. I did enjoy the old lake though in the winter. Light was always shocking trying to see your float but full of fish... and 10ft of silt!
@@JonArthur I remember having a good afternnon catching some nice tench. Yes, with all the tree shade it was a bit dark but it gave it a charm that you felt in the middle of nowhere and not on a busy holiday complex
Great video as usual Jon,very informative, just wish camera could zoom in somehow on your float, love to see the bites, don't think it is feasible though.Good luck in upcoming matches.
Thank you for your reply I take it on board. I just thought it might help with self hooking. At times we are only looking to improve our catch rate by 2 or 3 %. Sometimes that make the difference between winning and second. Keep up the good work. Regards Alan
Hi John it me, just watch your latest vlog and what I would like to know is. You talk about the line from the end of the pole to the top of the float being called the lash.Would it not be beneficial to create a twisted boom with some thick line. To help keep in contact from pole tip to float.May also have more benefits as in more control over presentation,or would the thickness of the twisted boom act like a extension of the pole. PS. If I have not explained myself very well you can always drop me a line. Kind Regards Alan
Hi Alan, I know exactly what you mean but a backshot is the simplest way to stiffen the line and aid control. Use a couple of No8s or sometimes a chain of smaller No11s. Problem with a twisted boom would be shortening the rig then attaching it to a dacron, who would look awkward. I actually have used and still carry special metal impregnated material that does a similar job, but it really isn't necessary for 95% of situations and a backshot is more than adequate.
Thanks Jon. Great video as always. Just a quick question on the ballabenni/stotz; when would you use stotz? I've recently moved back to shot because the stotz move so much. When you use the ballabenni, do you squeeze the shot over pole float silicone tube or just guage how hard to squeeze it on the line from experience?
I only use Stotz for backshot, trimming shot, if I want to put a shot on my hooklength or really thick lines. Making rigs up at home I always use round shot. Nothing worse than having Stotz slipping all over the place!
Has this lake been re dug, or is it completely new lake ? I thought you said it contained a good mix of fish before so just wondered where the original fish had gone.
About 35min in you mentioned what brand of shots you was using instead of stots but I can’t seem to make it out. What was they please? Also please post twice the amount of videos your currently releasing, seem to learn more from you than I do all the other big names/channels 👍
Thanks Daniel, I use Ballabeni shot. Not everyone gets on with it as its hard, but its lovely and round and works for me as I put it on with styl pliers not my teeth.
Would not say 100% Jon are! But Matrix sell kits in plain and colour now. So now rattle can to do. Sure I seen Jon cover it in the first lockdown, while he showed old kit and get prep done at how.👍👍
If you mean the white kits, the new Matrix Short Kits come like that or standard black. If you mean elastic I used red 10-12 Slik in front and green 6-8 Slik down the edge.
Re the 'lash' - im still trying to understand 'ligging on' 🤣 seems an interchangeable term! On the day with all that toot in the peg, on an actual match would you have immediately gone half a section further, rather than just trying to overcome it? Cheers
Yes absolutely and I said I should really plumb a new swim, however I felt the snag was 6in shorter than where i was fishing, going up the slope, so just about avoidable for the sake of a short film.
Keep up the great work, being English we love a bit of banter, love you guys
Cheers Robert
How can you give this lad a thumbs down ,one of the best fishing channels on RUclips
Fat thumbs!
Such a friendly angler walked passed him at white acres as he was empty his van last week had time say hello.
Seems the type to be a really great fella.
Thanks Tony. You obviously caught me on a good day ha ha :-)

Brilliant video jon I was at white acres in july n python was empty and half done what a transformation it looks great
Thanks Scott, it'll take a bit to mature but looks promising so far

sehr schönes Video danke sehr
Many thanks... and thanks Google Translate! :-)
As always..a pleasure to watch..Question: your clothing...warm and dry?...Im looking for a new set...

Proper pole smashing weather, but that's where a margin pole, waggler, or feeder comes into play if you need to get out further.
Or pack away and get in a nice hot bath! :-)
Any chance of having a camera showing the float ion the water?
Only if you want to volunteer as a 2nd cameraman :-)

I should start magnet fishing the amount of stuff I keep hauling up!
i would of potted that slug in then fished over it lol
'Orrible things! Great big jurassic yellow ones crawling all over the lodge veranda every morning!
