Two friends meet up at a high school reunion and discuss their careers One person is very smart and works at a bank while the other works on the mainframe
OMG, LOL! Some of this conversation is exactly what I get from friends and relatives when I tell them what I do for a living. I just tell them, that thing sitting on your desk, that you call a computer? Think of it as a lawn mower. The computers I work on? USS Nimitz.
Ha ha ha ha! I'm still laughing! There is a lot of irony here. Well prepared guy against a well prepared gal. There is a big difference about the importance and the priorities: First the development job and after the use of it. Question of culture!!!
This guy who claims he is smart is about as intelligent as a slug. All banks larger than a small credit union* use mainframes because for very large transaction volumes mainframes are much cheaper to operate and vastly more cost effective. And anyone at a management level in a bank would know this because they'd have a logon account to the bank's mainframe to do their job, A single IBM Z9 might run $75,000 plus licensing fees, but would do the work of perhaps 3,000 PC-based servers, that would cost over 1.5 million. Plus the electric usage of 1KW for the mainframe vs. 300KW for the servers, is an additional electricity cost of $900 a year for the mainframe vs. $270,000 for servers. * Yes, I know a credit union isn't a bank, humor me.
Oh my god, this is so annoying. Who writes dialogue this bad? 3 minutes, and probably 20 seconds of actual, useful content. Could have used that time so much better, and NOT use those stupid animations.
Quite possibly the best explanation of a mainframe computer I've ever heard.
That guy must want everyone to know he is smart and he studied in Harvard and work for a bank. >_>
"What is a mainframe" brought this video as the second-most relevant. I completely agree. I am very smart.
I came here to learn and ended up laughing my ass off xD

who gives a sheet !
Best mainframe explanation so far 😂
Hahaha funny and true.
Only few people can have access to a mainframe. I personally wanted to but no luck..
You're not missing anything. The OS is just a fancy DOS command prompt. It uses COBOL like many other things do
Hilarious!
bn
what the hell?
The upshot here is - Harvard turns out people too smart to converse with. Ignore them.
The guy must be a UNIX guy...or worse, a Microsoft employee.
Liked it :)
This guy is intelligent as a slug
