I'm a 70 year old widow currently living in the Roanoke Virginia Valley. I'm originally from Akron Ohio and I don't remember the year but Akron was minus 20+ degrees for several weeks. Everyone's furnaces were going down on them from running non stop. Then there was the time when I was living in Mansfield Ohio around 1974 or 75. It snowed 27 inches in less than 24 hours 😮 I actually witnessed a train getting stuck on the tracks and thunder and lightning snow. No one went anywhere for 2 weeks. Ohhhh, I miss the good ole days. God bless you Ryan and your family 👑🙏💞✝️🐾🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯

I don't mind snow but I hate ice. On Valentine's Day 2007, an Oak tree branch, that was on a 250 yr old tree, fell on our home and we had to stay in a motel for 13 days. Very thankful that we were all ok but I can still hear the sound of it breaking and hitting the house. Appreciate what you do Ryan.

@@brianfitch5469we learned this lesson. A few years ago my mum and my son was in the back yard and a freak storm popped up and it brought down 2 very very large trees..one fell about 2 feet away from them..cllse enough some small branches got them..I dont like cutting down trees but we got every tree back there that was tall enough to reach the house. It still amazes me how quickly that storm happened.

and tbh I don't trust my local meteorologists for anything cause they've been saying here for this weekend Boston is only getting 3" and that mid state Worcester will be seeing 8-12 inches, as alway thank you for more in depth weather analysis it's much appreciated

West central Ohio has been cursed with what I call a “snow tax”. We are absolutely forbidden to get hit with an “all snow” event from ANY large winter system, so the only possible way that we are allowed to get any snow from a large system is that a significant portion of the moisture MUST be sacrificed as either useless rain and/or ice instead. We are allowed to get snow at the beginning or end of the storm but NEVER the entire system. It is absolutely infuriating how it is mandatory that every large system either be repelled to our south or else it MUST suck tropical warm snow-robbing air aloft into it to guarantee that we get cheated each and every time in order for the storm to gain permission to pass over us! 😤 We are basically trapped in the heart of the dreaded ice/rain belt.

Yep, what happened to good old fashioned snow storms ? Now it's always a mix or the rain washes away the snow and we just have a soggy mess.
I don't like the wind, especially where we live and the power goes out easily. I also have a grand old tree out front with some dead branches that the landlord either wants the whole tree down or isn't doing anything. It's ridiculous because it's huge, will require the road to be closed and really just needs cut back.
So I worry every time there's wind that a huge branch will end up in my living room. 😮

Well, our outlook for snow looks like we'll get some next Friday and Saturday here in Salem, OR. And of course, early Friday morning is when I'm supposed to be on the freeway for about 65 miles. I love to be in the snow or to watch it snow from inside a cozy warm house. What I don't like at all is trying to stay on the road safely in a state full of people who DON'T or WON'T drive SAFELY through it. Thank you for all you do Ryan Hall!

That first storm sounds like it has all the ingredients to be a major tornadic system. And if it stays that way up into the northeast, that could be a major problem since that region is not at all used to tornadoes or tornadic storms.

Ryan, I go directly to your updates because you are so well adept to inform people about any kind of weather event which affects their well being and preparation for nature's fury. We usually have 36" of snow totaled from November til now. But, we were lucky enough to get 8". Located between Buffalo, NY and Niagara Falls, we usually miss out on the big snow events, such as lake effect in which south of the city receives up to 7' of super wet and heavy snow coming off from Lake Erie and at times Lakes Ontario and Huron. God bless you and your precious family!

That severe trough for Jan 8th-9th is going to be serious. The negative tilt it has tells me everything I need to know about how big it will go. Temperatures raise enough & dew points come up enough we could easily be seeing another tornado outbreak Monday for the SouthEast. The wind shear is already more than there. Now it's only a matter of time before that one strikes. When it does, it will hit hard. If you are in the Southeast ya'll be ready.

It's been such an absurdly warm winter so far in Syracuse, NY that we've had almost no snow sticking to the ground. Usually I'd have to shovel a few times by now, even if just from lake effect bands but there's been so little snow that you wouldn't even be able to build a microscopic snowman unless you brought ice out of the freezer to do it.

The models are showing not that much at my location in Maryland. However, now there's a winter storm warning for 3-6 inches and temperatures are running about 2 degrees colder than the forecast, it said it would be a high of 40 today but only hit 38 for less than a hour and temps are ticking down as the sun is about to go down. Last night the low was forecasted to be 22 but it got down to 20. Something tells me this storm will track maybe 20-30 miles south of what models are saying and the cold air holds a little better. DC will probably be mostly rain but Baltimore could easily get a couple inches, especially away from the water, and we will finally get a real snowstorm for the northern and western suburbs.

That temp anomaly map at the very end was a thing of beauty. My jaw literally dropped when you stopped the animation on that -57° min frame.
I've seen those deep purples and bright pinks a few times but usually in small clumps. That cold air bad boy covered the ENTIRE west side of the map from Canada to Mexico, and from the Pacific coast, past the Rockies, into the central plains. Not just pockets and dots ...... that's a blanket. Impressive.
Of course, it's at the end of the forecast window so a lot could change from now to then .... but that was a beautiful map.

Same thoughts here. Glad I'm not alone. I remember when a friend of mine was doing the gold claim thing in AZ in a camper van when the Arctic blast hit the southwest in 2021. He had to head to Quartzite; it was the ONLY place around for miles in the entire SW that was above freezing, and barely. I saw 10 degrees in the entire state of New Mexico. All the snowbirds and road people made their way to La Posa valley, it was wild. I ended up flying out there myself in late February, but thankfully the Arctic cold had left by then.
