Thank you so much for this! There are so many videos talking through this process but yours is the first where you attach it to a bodice. It was EXACTLY what I was looking for 🥳
I just got a new serger today and the first thing i did is to watch this video for my next project. Thanks for sharing. I will now have to learn first how to thread the serger as my first step. Thanks. By the way, you inspired me to sew some garments and i want to share with you my first sewing project.
Hi Delilah, thanks so much for the tip,it worked beautifully on my Butterick 4440 pattern, I have a Singer overlocker, regards frm South Africa, happy sewing
Great tutorial. I’m glad you covered the needle tension = how much fabric to ruffle. That helped me a lot! I love the ruffle foot. I’m definitely going to have to invest in one.
I also have the Brother 1034d serger but I haven't used the ruffler foot on it. I typically use a Ruffler foot or a Gathering foot on my sewing machine. I'll have to try using the serger ruffler foot now that I know what can be achieved using it.
love your video. I have this same serger but I have trouble gathering. It starts out okay but since I have a long piece that I'm gathering quilting cotton, after a bit, it stops gathering.
Thank you for the clear video! I was wondering how you keep the fabric you sew the ruffles onto from fraying if you only attach them with a sewing machine stitch?
Thank you for the video! I have the same serger so this will be very helpful! PS: Just a note: Challis is pronounced Sha-lee. That pink fabric with the milk cartons is adorable!!!!
Thank you for this fantastic video. Would you ever recommend using a serger ruffler foot to ruffle and attach at the same time? I would love to try it, but I'm worried!
Yes, absolutely I would love to do that..in fact there is footage of me at the end of this video trying to do that...and I think it just takes lots of practice.
Do I need a ruffling foot for my Baby Lock Enlighten Serger? That dress is precious! Lucky little girl who has a MOM who sews such cute clothes for her.
Hello, I have a ruffle foot for my brother serger but don't need it to do the ruffles...its used more for if you want to attach the ruffles to the fabric all at the same time...so I'm not sure that you would need yours or not. Some sergers don't allow the tension to be adjusted 🤷♀️ sorry, i wish a knew a little bit more about it.
Thank you ! i love baby lock and would love to have that serger but yeah the tension I think would be a problem because i use my serger all the time for gathers, i love making tier dresses for me and my daughter
@@notimetowork I've seen a tutorial on this using a babylock on RUclips somewhere. They did not adjust the needle tension, but only the differential to 2. They also changed the width of the stitch if I remember correctly, but that's it. And it worked.
Thank you. I’m new to sewing so RUclips has helped a bunch! I mainly use knits. So to connect the ruffles to bodice you recommend surging together instead of using standard sewing machine for knit fabrics?
i'm glad you like it...if you get the hang of the method it will save you sooo much time. I make tier dresses and skirts a lot because of this easy breazy ruffling method.
Just found you, thank you for making this so clear Delilah! I'm going to try this way and my ruffle foot on my serger too. Do you disengage your knife when doing ruffles? Thanks again!
This was great. Thank you so much. How much fabric did you use for the bottom tier? Was it the same width as the original width of the first tier or did you use twice the width of the bottom straight edge of the first tier?
yes you should finish all raw edges, I usually serge both raw edges then run them through my sewing machine...but in this scenario i was mostly focussed on showing how to ruffle it... (oops)
thank you for the easiest way to gather with the 1034D serger, please keep them coming.
yes you are welcome.
Thank you so much for this! There are so many videos talking through this process but yours is the first where you attach it to a bodice. It was EXACTLY what I was looking for 🥳
i'm glad I could help!

Yes I was in tears. First time ruffling on the serger! Thank you SO MUCH!!
Glad it was helpful! I love tears ..the tier kind of tiers!
This video is far better than many other clips, is really good, very useful, with various examples and tips and no music, great.
Glad you liked it! Thank you!
I had NO IDEA I could do this on my little Brother 1034 D! Yay! A new skill! THX!!
Glad I could help! This is the only way I do gathers.

Such a great technique! Will use this in the future. 😊
Please do! thats how I always make my ruffles
Wow, I have never used my serger to make ruffles cause I didn't know where to set the tension at. I'm gonna have to try it now. Thanks so much!!
i'm so glad its helpful!
I have never used my serger for ruffles-but have used my ruffler attachment on my sewing machine-now I need to try this method-thank you!! :+)

Hello to you in South Africa, thank you for saying hi!
You did a fantastic job on that pink dress! Now I can use my serger to do more. Thank you!
thank you!
Only discovered you recently and I love your videos
thank you! Glad you are enjoying them!
Great tutorial. I’m glad you covered the needle tension = how much fabric to ruffle. That helped me a lot! I love the ruffle foot. I’m definitely going to have to invest in one.
I'm so glad...once you can ruffle with your serger you will see that is saves so much time.
I love it and thank you for showing us how it's done! I'm off to my serger to try this!
You are so welcome!

yes let me know how it goes!
My fave way to do ruffles! Non frustrating and evenly spaced! ❤️
Yes for sure!
Wow! Mind blown! Thank you so much.
you are welcome!
Love this. I’ll just have to make sure I put the settings back to where they were before serging.
glad you found it helpful!
So many good tips. Thank you.
You are so welcome! Glad it was helpful!
love your video. I have this same serger but I have trouble gathering. It starts out okay but since I have a long piece that I'm gathering quilting cotton, after a bit, it stops gathering.
Oh no! I wish i had an answer for you..I'm not sure what that could be?
This was so helpful! Thank you!
You are so welcome!... it saves so much time!
Thank you for the clear video! I was wondering how you keep the fabric you sew the ruffles onto from fraying if you only attach them with a sewing machine stitch?
Nevermind! I saw someone else asked the same question below :)
yeah that one did not get serged because it was just an example but yes I would go through and serge both pieces.
Very nice tutorial. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
This is such a useful tutorial, thanks so much.
The little pink dress is adorable, which pattern is it please?
Thank you for watching. that dress is the Lorne Pattern, its a pdf pattern by Little Lizard King
@@SimplyDelilah Thank you so much!
Wow fab tip, cant wait to try it out with my Brother M343D. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the video! I have the same serger so this will be very helpful! PS: Just a note: Challis is pronounced Sha-lee. That pink fabric with the milk cartons is adorable!!!!
oh my gosh! i'm always pronouncing the fabrics wrong...this isn't the first time! I appreciate you informing me 😊 Thank you for watching!
Thank you for this fantastic video. Would you ever recommend using a serger ruffler foot to ruffle and attach at the same time? I would love to try it, but I'm worried!
Oh gosh! I needed to watch your video all the way through! Nevermind!
Yes, absolutely I would love to do that..in fact there is footage of me at the end of this video trying to do that...and I think it just takes lots of practice.
Thank you so much. I just want to know please the second ruffle of the dress is it double size the first ruffle?
yes you double the width for each tier you do
much appreciated x.
Great tutorial.. Your right you left us in tiers 😉❤😍

Thank you for this tutorial! I have a Babylock serger with automatic tension so I don't know how I could achieve this. Your dress is so pretty x
Thank you ! i love baby lock and would love to have that serger but yeah the tension I think would be a problem because i use my serger all the time for gathers, i love making tier dresses for me and my daughter
@@katedelaney5910 I can't change my needle tension, babylock machines do that automatically!

So on the thinnest fabric that gathered too much, you lower the needle tensions instead of lowering the differential setting?
yes thats correct. it turns out great.
Thank you for this tutorial. I have a small pillow I want to put a ruffle on. I will give it a go and let you know how it goes.
Oh I hope this helps! Can’t wait to see the pillow!
Oh my you make this look so easy! I am glad to have found you :) I want to make my daughter a tiered dress and this is perfect!
You are so welcome! i make my daughter many dresses with this technique. I wouldn't have time any other way.
Thanks for the info! I have to practice this now!!
Glad it was helpful!
So helpful!!!
I agree...I share this video all the time...it saves so much time when sewing.
Adorable!! Please! The rolled hem on my sewing machine is hard to figure out. I want to do the ties (2.5”x20”) for little dresses.
Yes I will be working on that video next! Stay tuned 😊
Thank you, perfect

yes, I'm glad you found this.
Just found you, thank you for making this so clear Delilah! I'm going to try this way and my ruffle foot on my serger too. Do you disengage your knife when doing ruffles? Thanks again!
I don't disengage the knife...I just don't have the fabric get close to the blade...I keep it right there on the edge.
Can you make a gthered skirt using the ruffle function ?
yes. that would work too
Fantastic, loved it.
Glad you enjoyed it...its the only way i do ruffles!
Wow! Game changer
yes! it saves so much time.
Awesome Tutorial!!! I'll defiantly be trying this when I make my granddaughter a skirt. Thank you, love your videos.
Oh that’s great! I’m glad I could help a little.
I found that thinner knits just don’t ruffle enough. I have a triumph babylock and it just doesn’t do a good job on thinner knits. Any suggestions?
What was the 2 setting on the serger for?
I would like to know too
Excellent video! Where can I get the pattern
the pattern for the dress is at www.littlelizardking.com and the patter is called the Lorne
Great video
Did you lower your cutting blade?
no...you don't need to lower the cutting blade...just don't place the fabric that far over...keep it away from the blade
What foot is it you’re using to sew on ruffles please?
i'm just using the all purpose foot that came with my serger, no need to change it.
Excelente video
thank you! i just discovered these comments today that i never responded too.. thanks for always watching 😀
This was great. Thank you so much. How much fabric did you use for the bottom tier? Was it the same width as the original width of the first tier or did you use twice the width of the bottom straight edge of the first tier?
hello, for the last tier I did it 1.5x. Glad this was helpful for you!
So it isn’t necessary to finish the bodice raw edge to avoid unraveling?
yes you should finish all raw edges, I usually serge both raw edges then run them through my sewing machine...but in this scenario i was mostly focussed on showing how to ruffle it... (oops)
Thank you for a practical tutorial! I was at my wits end on how to figure out the ruffle settings to fit the bodice. 😭😭😭
i love this technique!
Fantastic video 😊
thank you!
With any of these ruffles, you can pull out the needle threads and adjust the length of the ruffle longer or shorter to match the straight piece.
oh thats good to know 😊
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Great
What is that sewing machine foot called?
its the all purpose foot that came with my serger
What was it on the side that you change to 2
Its the differential feed! sorry, thats kind of important to know and I skimmed past that! You put the differential to 2
Thank you thank you 💕🫶🏼
You are so welcome
Perfect!! Going to give this try, thank you!
it is such a time saver, its a necessity for me.
I needed this. I plan to try it tomorrow. Thanks
Hope you enjoy...it saves so much time!
Great video. Very informative.
Glad it was helpful! Hopefully you can find it saves time too!
