- This the Pencak Silat school of Inti Omback, a martial art from the mountains of Central Java in Indonesia. This is Guru Pakdhe Kardi performing a form that is from his own native style in Java. In reality, the martial art of Pencak Silat has many different styles and schools throughout the 10,000 islands that are Indonesia.

The one sitting behind is one of "guru" from inti ombak silat/inner wave (cmiiw). I saw him circa 2014 in Jogjakarta, Indonesia.

That was a movement of art,it's smooth,but all movement is about to kill,don't ever mess with that,because Im the one who ever fights with silat master,I just got 2,3 hit i think I don't remember because I got Knocked out or passed out,Im black belt in karate,but I can't see silat movement,that is huge experience for me.

@@businessdawg2 Don't forget the word "Silat Master" there are on another level they look nothing on the outside that people think they're joke since these master are just tooo humble like too humble idk how to explain and yeah when they show their fang at that moment people realize how big of a mountain an ant can be.

I swear this reminds of of the forms I would do in Kung fu when I was younger. It looks exactly similar but when I took my daughter to her first Silat class, just the warm ups seemed very intense, throwing themselves onto the mat with a lot of force. She didn’t want to go back.

I recognize the name from somewhere in my youth... Or maybe sometime else... But, maybe now that I know how it's spelled, I can find a fusion of this, eskrima, and Tai chi for maintaining movement and flexibility... I love these kinds of display of skill and movement.

pencak silat wont bruise you. but this can break your bones. pencak silat is a martial art with a style or goal of how to immobilize an opponent quickly. not beat them

@@jeff8833 pencak silat also practices techniques to bring down opponents such as glima. but the difference is in the posture and strength of large Europeans and Indonesians who on average have a small body

Yup. Silat is one of few martial arts which aimed to incapitate/kill fast and instant with less use of power. It's closer to assassination technique, as opposed to other 'power' heavy martial arts.

penkak selat is a martial arts of nature.. it is very advantageous in trees and thier weapons are knifes... curve swords and knives specifically that if you get hit by it your wounds would not heal.easily like unlike a normal slash.. you need to stitch it up for it to be healed. Also its core is striking the vital parts of the body. A dangerous martial arts if mastered perfectly by a soldier

I'm active in boxing and muay thai. Beating regular pencak silat guy is like walk in the park. Yeah, they are just dancing.
But, there are real silat you can't looking down. Combat silat for military. Their techniques are complete. Joint lock, short range counter, and the most dangerous is elbow lol. That was dam hurt
Nice for you, but your fight sports are a weak link when it comes to situations where you can find yourself in, like multiple opponents or knives. Although an art like pencak silat, fma or the modern krav maga will not guarantee your survival, it gives you at least a possibility to survive. Boxing and muay thai just ensures your death. Unless you can run like hell (which in case of a knife is the smartest thing to do if possible).

This style is not intended for sporting 1 on 1 fair fights. It's intended for surviving a fight to the death against multiple armed opponents. For example, grappling on the ground is ideal for 1 on 1 sports fighting in a padded octagon. That same approach will be fatal in a 1 on 2 knife fight. It's all about context.
Truth be known, there is Indian, Chinese, and other influences, not purely Malay - Indonesian - Borneo - Filipino (By the way, they were all 1 Big Happy Family a long time ago way beyond Islam, and Spanish conquest back to the time that they were all Hindus).

No. Not for MMA. Silat is intended for surviving lethal fights against multiple armed attackers. Imagine a melee of 20 people armed with machetes against another 20 people armed with machetes. Silat does not perform well in 1 on 1 unarmed sports fighting. E.g. grappling and taking your foe to the ground is a a smart tactic in a 1 on 1 sports fight, but that same tactic will be fatal in a 1 on 2 knife fight. I've practiced silat for over 30 years.

No. Silat is not suitable for MMA. It's intended for surviving lethal fights against multiple armed attackers. E.g. Grappling one foe on the ground is great for MMA but a lethal fail in a 1 on 2 knife fight. I've trained silat for more than 30 years and have sparred with several pro MMA fighters. The MMA fighter typically crushes me in an unarmed fair fight in a brightly lit padded octagon but fairs poorly in an armed (we used wooden knives) fight to the death in a dark alley. It's all about context.

In the octagon only kick, punch, slam, choke and lock are used. This is a common technique in any martial art. The victory there is only because of who trains harder, faster and stronger. Not related to modern or traditional types of martial arts.
Someone who learns MMA if they don't take their practice seriously might as well be beaten by someone else in a street fight. Likewise in the news a few years ago at my place, a student who was trained in silat even though with his bare hands survived from attack of two street robber armed with sickles, he was able to grab the robber's weapon and kill one of them, the other ran away.
So, not everyone who learns self-defense is interested in competition, they practice only to defend themselves when necessary
@@Tunjung_biru the two main systems that are useful are Jiu jitsu and mui thai. Most the mixed martial arts fighters train in these two systems and there’s a lot more going on than what you said.

Both are ineffective in street fights or sharp-armed robbery situations.
In silat you can learn not only how to handle sharp weapons attack, but also learn to be immune to sharp weapons, some types of traditional silat still teach this. this is part of the spiritual side of pencak silat
