I always find this VFX based videos really interesting, as someone who has only lightly dabbled in the art it just fascinates me! What I've wanted to know, is how do you film for VFX? Obviously you plan, and you kinda know what effects you'll have in the finished product, but how do you direct for these VFX shots, and how do you know the framing and such you need? I'm fairly sure this was covered in a very early video, but I'm sure you've updated your technique since then, and I'd love to know what it is!
Kai, a lot of it comes with doing it wrong a bunch. Every time you practice shooting for VFX is an opporunity to learn what not to do or what would work better next time. There are staples of VFX supervisors such as measuring and recording everything, (lens size, distance from lens to subject that will be modified or stands in for CG) placeholders, tracking markers, pre viz and even post-viz. Testing a concept with a similar shot is sometimes the only way to problem solve before an important shoot day involving VFX. Experience really is the best teacher.
Happy Birthday Niko When i turned 32 last July my dad told me "You're old enough that kids call you Sir but young enough that older people call you kid" .. i don't know what he meant but thought i'd share it. Many Happy returns
Can you sometime put wren infront of a camera and just let him talk for like and hour or so? Make the vid unlisted or sth like that if you dont want to spoil your public videos. I bet there is bunch of people who would really like video like that. Or maybe wren you can just do that on his own channel. But then you have to mention it in the vlog where we can find the vid!
I watched a video earlier this morning where Mike Boyd did a video on opening champagne with a sabre. It's hilarious that this came out at the same time. On another note, it's been years since I've heard of kitbashing; The last time I heard it was when I was big into Warhammer fantasy.
I work as a night stocker, and I've learned that when something is packed that tight, if you also slit the bottom open, the suction holding them in releases and they slide right out. :)
Playing 3:08 at 0.25 speed is really interesting. Watching Wren go into fight or flight mode and instinctively slamming his hands on the table to going into hyper focus to grasp what the noise was to realizing it came from behind him to turning around. haha
I love these videos it’s a shame that corridor doesn’t get as many consistent views on YT as they used because the algorithm doesn’t really promote original content anymore and YT doesn’t really make an effort to boost that content on the trending page for whatever reason.
The rotating camera is a Forward Looking InfraRed or FLIR camera it's used to track hot objects like tanks or aircraft. Although for tracking aircraft from the ground radar is usually preferred. Also most tanks already have IR/night vision camera in the hull for the crew to aim the gun with, so a second one on the outside for engaging ground targets with missles is unnecessary. Additionally having a bunch of stuff on top of the tank makes it less stable over rough terrain and increases a tanks already large profile which is a problem as anti tank weaponry has pretty much always been one step ahead of tank armor. having a small profile means not getting spotted first and as is the usual case destroyed.
Happy Birthday Niko! (Really thought you were like 28...) Best of luck to you in all your future endeavours, you guys are gonna make The Beast happen :D
Hey wren, the first model of the logitech mx revolution used to have a docking system like you mentioned, but I can tell you that the contacts wear out super quickly. The newer versions used a micro usb cable that plugged in the front, so it could run wired or wireless. Considering that USB is a lot more wear resistant that mouse lasted a lot longer then the docked version.
I love to make 3D models.. If i ever get my printer up and working i'll release a Airsoft M107 full sized. Also Happy Birthday niko.. you got me by 2 years...
+hntr177 They should be. If you don't think the net neutrality ruling will have a big impact on the Internet in the US, and to a lesser degree the rest of the world, you're either uninformed or dismissive. History has shown that ISPs cannot be trusted to regulate themselves. They have throttled services in the past that didn't pay for prioritization and without NN there's nothing to stop them from doing so again.
Hey there, can you tell me, what it is you are using for camera tracking? This seems a lot more solid, than everything that I have figured out so far...
OMG! Wren has Ratrap from Beast Wars!!! It's the second version when they got upgraded by the Transmetal Drive! I have many of the older Beast Wars and Transformers toys!
Funny how just a couple of hours ago Mike Boyd released a vid celebrating 500k subs by also opening a champagne bottle using a blade. Also Happy Birthday Niko!!
I just finished watching the tank video, it was pretty nice but you guys should have had some better light in the tank at the end so you could actually see C.Mike wearing a helmet like you guys talked about earlier. It was so dark that if he wasn't smiling like that I wouldn't have known he was the special forces. I guess it still works though, just a bit more subtle?
that's a laser targeting system. that ball paints targets by projecting an infrared laser that can't be seen on a target to paint it. the ball goes in a 360 turn and 180 elevation. once painted the missiles will go to where the ball paints, which means that it will turn to hit it. this is used for anti ground, but not for anti air since a jet can get out of the laser range fast and not be painted. these targeting systems can be fitted on a drone. An important thing is that the laser must not move off the target to not loose the painted target since the missiles follow the laser. these targeting systems can be ball mounted that use A.I to track targets and get a precise and consistent follow on the target or it could be a big box that is the size of an X box or PS that projects a seeable laser. this is what can be used to prevent the need to fire a regular rocket or use a tow missiles that has limited range before the rocket can't respond. there are currently multiples types of rockets but there are 3 main ones. (TOW fires a rocket and can be controlled to up and down or left and right. Has limited range before missile does not respond) (Laser Painting fires a missile that is guided to a laser that paints the target, has a limited range and can't loose painted target other wise it will explode.) (Heat Seekers fires a missile that targets a plane or helicopter. the missile can't be fired unless it has locked on to a target first. also it tends to be easy to prevent if you have flare, which will cause it to go after them and explode.
3:07 i'm convinced that wren is a cat in disguise
So 11:07 ?

Are you guys going to make a video about net neutrality and FCC?You have a big influence.

Try prepping the bottle by chilling the neck first - put it neck down in an ice bucket for a while. Happy Birthday!

Omg all that razor stuff
The missile launcher is actually called SAM (Surface to Air Missile), and the Head cam thing is called TGTPOD or Targeting pod Or Sniper pod
Happy Birthday!
