      Not everything is political, but everything is ideological, as art is all about communicating ideas.
      That is honestly not a good sentence, telling kids to be themselves shouldn't be seen as political.

    I always loved Mulan growing up, My parents weren't in a good place while I was growing up. I would always take my brother to the park whenever things were getting ugly. She helped me to remind myself to be strong for my brother. After high school, I needed to strong once again but for my whole family and I enlisted into the army. I never expected I would find someone to be my Shang towards the end of my training but I did. And just like Mulan's family they couldn't believe I got married 😂

    Yeah, it’s all about the way you view it, right? A person can see Elastigirl standing for women in general, but I see her standing for moms who don’t believe they have what it takes to get their second wind. The movie rocked where it counted and flopped when trying too hard, but you could say that about nearly any Pixar movie.
    And if you asked me, Bob was better written than Helen. I loved that he gave a genuine effort to be a good father, but still struggled with the fact that he was staying at home. Not because of “gender roles“, but because he had a thirst for hero work. Even though he was selfish, he still wanted his wife to succeed and his family to prosper.

      I liked that too. It didn't feel like the approach that the left takes towards sexism and gender roles. It felt respectful of both.
      Besides, Helen stops a train, she gets flowers and parades, BOB stops a train, he ends up breaking the camel's back, get sued for doing his job, and suddenly superheroes are made illegal. I can sympathize with the guy.

      Elastigirl role in the movie is not bad, nor is it forced like most SJW movies nowadays such as the new Star Wars movies, Ocean's 8, Ghostbusters, etc. The movie wasn't just that memorable, and the plot for The Incredibles 2 is just average to mediocre at best.

      I already have my own thoughts on matters. It's just nice to see more positive and progressive concepts being introduced to younger generations.
      God forbid women become leaders, or family be a flexible concept, or people of the same gender being in love, right?
      These are fairly reasonable moral objections, and I have no issues with them being big parts of future generations' upbringings.

    my one rule with this is that if you are going to showcase a message that deals with social justice topics it has to blend well with the story, I felt that incredible 2 did a great job showcasing female empowerment without shoving it down peoples throats like the Ghostbusters movie did. Dc did a great job with this with the wonder woman movie.

      I disagree on Incredibles 2: while I thought that more time was spent hyping the feminist angle than actually talking about it in the movie(thank goodness...I can't stand preachy movies), Elastigirl's character arc was poorly written...bordering on nonexistent. She didn't grow as a person or learn anything in the movie. If you're going to make such a big deal about "it's HER turn" and her being the Strong Female Character®, then at least put some thought into making her a well-rounded character.

    • @slvrcobra1337
      @slvrcobra1337 6 лет назад +5

      RianeBane - Yeah, from a character/story perspective, Helen's half of the movie was super weak. It was fun to watch, but like you said, she just goes along abandoning her family and saving everybody, and doesn't learn anything or change as a person.
      The true villain just pops up and Helen's part of the story simply ends as the movie rushes to the third act.

    • @slvrcobra1337
      @slvrcobra1337 6 лет назад +2

      Drinker_Of_Milk - Actually, that was a clip from the first movie that they put into this one for some reason. In the context of the first film, it was to show the contrast between the young Elastigirl (the interview) and the older, married Elastigirl.

    There might be, there probably is a degree of politics with leading Incrsibles 2 with Elastigirl. But you've gotta think about Pixars approach to sequels. Cars and Cars 2 had a protagonist switch from Lightning to Mater. Monsters Inc. to University switched from Sully to Mike. Finding Nemo to Finding Dory, that ones in the frickin title. I'm kinda blanking on Toy Story right now, but I remember that one as consistently leaning towards Woody. Anyway of course Pixar was going to shift protagonists. They've been doing it.

  • @kathrynvincent1563
    @kathrynvincent1563 6 лет назад +24

    I think putting Elastigirl in the forefront was a great idea and was still allowed to be an equal with her husband as her family is her highest priority. I'm iffy on a lot of women led films because hey like to tell us as if it's special when it should just be normal if it's all female, all male, or mixed depending on the story.

    • @Axel230
      @Axel230 6 лет назад +2

      Kathryn Vincent It was also somewhat a subversion of the "Strong female lead" since... Well, the story was actually split between both characters equally, and emphasises the cooperation of family as a whole rather than just "fighting to save her family"

    • @TruffleSeeker54
      @TruffleSeeker54 6 лет назад +2

      I think the whole point of the Incredibles is that they're a family and they work best when they're together. Both Bob and Helen tried working alone and they both needed their family to save them, but I'm glad Incredibles 2 featured Helen a lot because I like her character.

    Preach it, man. I think movies/tv has had such an enormous effect on my development (I'm 27 so The Lion King was my shit) but I also see things like what I believe being wrong because of the way media influenced me as a child. Things that my mind was brought up to believe about the kinds of people in this world being reduced to a few stereotypes, 80% of the time that shit isn't true and I think back on where I learned that and it comes down to the movies I watched as a kid. Very important work that Pixar is doing but it's also equally on the parents to help navigate their kids too.

I encourage you and the other individual who felt the need to go out of their way to prove to me that evidently, "Stereotypes are a good thing" to do some research about why they aren't. You deny people an opportunity when you've predetermined who they are based on what color skin they have, what their sexual orientation is or any other uncontrolled factor they might have about them. Take a chill pill dudes, the world won't change by you replying to comments with your angsty opposing views, it changes by having discussion. Look at both sides of that coin before you decide which one you agree with.

    • @Axel230
      @Axel230 6 лет назад +2

      It wasn't even an agenda, just a basic storytelling point of Pixar: have your characters faced with a situation they're uncomfortable with.
      It happened for both Helen and Bob: Helen wasn't very convinced (At first) of the new job and Bob could really be seen struggling between his jealousy and his love for his family (Pss, Bob's arc IS better and more relatable).
      In the end, Helen's attitude about "leaving the rest to the second guard" does make it very human though, she enjoyed the job but it shows she truly missed her family and apreciated Bob's support (Which was probably for a certain ultimate goal of being back in action but it does show an interesting and believable couple relation of truly understanding each other and respecting their motivations).

  • @rayanneflorence1830
    @rayanneflorence1830 6 лет назад +17

    A lot of people were upset after they saw the incredibles 2 complaining that the movie was designed just to cater to the feminists agenda and personally I disagree. I think it makes sense to have a roll reversal like this because in the original mr incredible got to go out and fight crime while elastigirl stays home and takes care of the kids. In this movie those things are swapped and it shows that both jobs are hard and that both parents can be good at them. The movie never blatantly complains about how a man always saves a woman like in the wreckit Ralph trailer. Modern children’s movies have a problem with talking about how there is an unfair balance between their male and female character but then they never don’t really do anything about it they just acknowledge it and it is pointless and clingy. What I liked about the incredibles 2 is they showed a girl in the spot light being badass and they didn’t make it a huge deal that she was a woman, she was just a superhero and I think that’s the kind of content we need made by these companies that want to have a feminist agenda.

    I thought Elastigirl was great as the lead. Her superpower has always been my favourite, so I'm glad I got to see some amazing action sequences particularly the train scene. Although in my opinion the first is still superior, largely due to the villain. However on the topic of political messages I felt that Incredibles 2, tries to put forward this whole "men suck" message. I felt this way when they show Mr. Incredible struggle taking care of his family without his wife. Although I convinced myself it was just a nitpick, up until I saw a cooking show playing in the background of a scene, and I literally heard the sentence "It's so easy even he can do it". Women shouldn't be made to feel empowered through the degrading of the male sex. That's not how equality works. It was a small issue for me, and it didn't ruin the overall experience of the film. But I have been noticing a considerable amount of unintegrated political statements in movies these days (SOLO), and I hope it doesn't continue. Messages should be deeper and even metaphorical. They should just be expressed through a single character (L3-37) or a line of dialogue, because in the end of the day "that's just lazy writing".

    I still love the original film than the sequel because it felt more sober and had more moments. While the sequel kept going on to the next scene and the next scene and the next scene and etc. Plus is it just me or did the sequel feel more adult than the original? Anyway I liked incredibles 2 but I admire the first one a whole lot more.❤🌹

      In my opinion it was kinda disappointing, the pacing felt jarringly fast compared to the first movie that took it's time exploring the family's mundane everyday life. And I kinda agree with Adam from YMS, they missed an opportunity to set the movie further into the future where we see the characters develop even more with age, also maybe have the design and aesthetics be an homage of the 90s like how the first ones was homaging the 70s/80s

    Wait, so everything is political, we just don't see it when we agree with it? So how is something like Dark Souls political? Or Kingdom Hearts? Last I recall, I wasn't like "Thank God Dark souls has their form of the second amendment or else I wouldn't be able to kick so much ass." Things are getting MORE political nowadays, which is the main reason why things like Marvel Comics are suffering so much. People legitimately turn to entertainment to get AWAY from politics. They don't want to stop watching news stories that focus on feminists pushing "strong, powerful women" just to read comic books pushing "strong, powerful women". They turn to them to watch Wonder Woman kick ass or Batman solve some sort of intricate puzzle.

    • @getschwifty5537
      @getschwifty5537 6 лет назад +1

      What does suicide have to do with who's the lead in movies?
      Plus strong male leads haven't gone anywhere. if you're for female leads then stop feeling threatened by them by insinuating that the growth of female leads is actively harming male leads.
      It's not. Both can coexist.

      David Lopez I mean that men often look for father figures and role models, mostly without realising it. It's important to boys to have a man around who they can learn from how to be "a man" and get inspired and empowered by. This also applies to women (I think to lesser extent though) and it's great we have had some great fictional role models like Mrs. Incredible.
      I'm sad that the amount of strong (well written strong) men in movies is declining rn.

    I thought The Incredibles 2 was amazing. I thought the writing was great the action was great but most of all everything that happened with the characters I thought was 100% believable.
    My favorite two things were the reason they picked Elastigirl to be the face of the new movement, and the reason Mr. Incredible had to wait for Elastigirl to do her thing before he came out.
    Elastigirl has the power to stretch, that's it, she couldn't destroy anything if she tried really when you think about it. Which makes perfect sense if they're trying to minimize destruction that they would pick somebody who is powers are minimally destructive. They didn't pick her because she was a woman, because it's about time, or anything like that. They picked her because she was the right person for the job, and I think that's the right way to do it. And as far as Mr Incredible goes of course he wanted to be in the spotlight, of course he wanted to be out there. But he didn't want to be out there only because he didn't want a woman taking it Shine, he wanted to be out there because he's mr. Incredible and that's the only thing he's good at. But when he really buckle down and put his mind towards being a father to his kids he started to shine in that area too oh, and he started to realize that that is just as important, if not more important than saving the day, being a father

    Belle had a big influence on me when I was young. I recognized myself in her because she felt like an outsider/kinda lonely at times, she loved books, wanted to fit in but wasn't willing to sacrifice her beliefs for it, and she understood that people being different from her didn't make them "bad" people. Just have to show people kindness to see what's beneath the surface.

    1. I prefer Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre to Disney's Fairy Tale/Princess franchise.
    2. However if I were to choose a Disney Princess as my favorite it would be Briar Rose/Aura aka Sleeping Beauty. She's only a sleep for a few minutes in the movie and her man, Prince Phillip, is the best developed, heroic, and just awesome of all the Disney "Princes".
    3. Insodently why don't the leading men get any love? Both Snow White & Cinderella's Prince Charmings are just trophy husbands, they get no development or characterization. (Disney animated versions, live action films treat the characters better.)
    4. Barbie as Rapunzel is better than Disney's Tangled. Just throwing that out there.
    5. Incredibles 2 was a much better family film as it presented the film as on ensemble cast where as the first film was all about Mr. Incredible and his struggle with the other family members existing to service his arc and be window dressing. (that is a knock on the first film but I do think that adult focus and tone is a big reason it isn't as enjoyable for younger audiences as the 2nd.)

  • @IceQueen975

    I loved Incredibles 2 tbh. They did it REALLY well. The reasoning for Elastigirl to be chosen made LOGICAL sense. The themes also of family, supporting your spouse, that jealousy is normal and it's important to work it out are important. There were a lot of messages form BOTH sides of the isle which made it balanced and feel organic.

    Woowww, book shade, you uncultured swine.
    Oh god, don't get me started on people thinking seeing a gay character is going to make their kids gay. I had a pretty big argument with someone about this because of the Last of Us 2 trailer (which isn't even remotely targeted at kids) so I can only imagine the sheer ignorance that's going to sprout once it starts trickling down more regularly into media for kids/adolescents.
    I would have seen Toy Story 3 no matter what, but the fact that it really seemed to line up with where I was in life definitely made the larger impact, a larger impact than the second Incredibles did, for example.

      It's not that they think itll make them gay, they just dont want their kids exposed to that sort of stuff at a young age. I agree TLOUP2 is a mature rated game, but alot of people were uncomfortable when that scene happened. They should of instead kept it in the game and not show it during e3.

    • @AmandaTheJedi
      @AmandaTheJedi 6 лет назад +41

      So people were fine with kids seeing the scenes of someone being disemboweled and Ellie slashing out throats? The game isn't for kids, but neither were a large portion of the games demo'd at E3. That argument against the kiss, in my opinion, is super weak. There's literally nothing different in that kiss than if the girl had kissed the guy Ellie is talking to instead. I think the trailer was edited together beautifully to both show off the gameplay, but also display the contrast between the life they've all been able to build in the wake of the disaster and regaining some sense of normalcy, while acknowledging that just outside the walls is a wasteland of terror. Should we start censoring movie trailers as well?
      And yes, the argument I was having with someone was 100% because he thought it was going to make kids gay.
      People being uncomfortable is exactly why it's important to have more gay characters present in media.

    • @Flatcetera
      @Flatcetera 6 лет назад +35

      Here’s the thing tho, gay people exist, so why shouldn’t their story be told?
      In the case of tlou it’s just showing that you’ll still find someone to love no matter how dire the situation. This is not about Ellie’s sexuality, but if you’re a bigoted person, ironically, you’ll give her sexuality a bigger role than it actually has...(I wasn’t bothered by the romantic tones in the UC series, nor am I afraid that it’ll turn my kids straight, it’s just good writing)

  • @teressasimon3911
    @teressasimon3911 6 лет назад +2

    I actually liked the incredible 2! I thought it had many good messages.
    I think movies do have a powerful influence whether we realize it or not. It is a great way to get a message across and it
    provides entertainment not only for kids but for adults too! (Especially in the case of Pixar) However, there really is a fine line when it comes to the influence. I personally hate when people hijack a story, movie or TV show just to "Make a bold political statement" rather than tell a good story. The love of a story and characters are what should bring the audience together. (Not what skin color the character has.) It has been said that the art of cinema has been lost, it use to be about the art of visual storytelling before anything else. These days there are hardly any more original ideas. It's all about money and political agendas. I suppose that artists have always had interesting ways of showing their critiques on culture, politics and society and I think that's a good thing, but it's gone overboard.
    Also, perhaps that lady was just an ignorant racist by "assuming" that you were bad because you are Hispanic. If that is the case, she was very wrong to act that way toward you. Still, I've always found that it's best not to assume what other people are thinking or feeling without knowing the motive. Her actions did seem to point to the possibility of racism. Still, you made the assumption that she watches Roseanne? so by that same logic, you are saying that people who watch that show must all be a bunch of racists? correct me if I'm wrong, but that sounded just a little hypocrical to me.

    I think many people forget that there’s more credit than we give sleeping beauty. She falls in love with the prince, and then is told she can’t be with him because she’s a princess. We over look the fact that she still went home to fulfill her role as a monarchy, she put her people before her self. And the idea that she is asleep is also overlooked as a nap, less than her being in a enchanted comma. If a girl wants to be like sleeping beauty (Aurora), by putting others before her feelings and emotions, I’m all for them.

    One thing you didn't mention is that while Pixar films do generally come up in political discussions, the ones that get the most attention are, without a doubt, the Brad Bird movies. Incredibles 1 and 2, and also Ratatouille. The reason for this is probably because Bird has a very definable worldview that he puts into every one of his films. It's a unique mark of the director, which a lot of Pixar films don't have. Even the best ones, you'd have a hard time remembering who directed them.

    Movies do not leave an impact anymore. I'm 25 and have felt that way since I was a kid. I've been watching these movies like you but the thing is we forget about them as much as we bitch about them. Music and video games are true mediums for manipulation. The repetitive nature of modern music and games leaves more of an impact, especially when you sink thousands of hours into them, unlike sinking 2 hours into a movie.

    “The only time it [being political] stands out is when you don’t agree with it” That’s such an accurate quote that I wish the people who say shit like “keep politics out of my video games/movies!” would keep in mind.

    Hey I already spotted another book lover in here. Lets try to keep the shade to a minimum eh? I don't know if you ever take requests, cause I know you lay awake at night hoping your fans will tell you what to do, but I think it would be amazing to see a top 5 best ( or worst) film techniques aside from just hiring famous people or hiring John Williams/Hans Zimmer to do the soundtrack. Just a thought; great video as always.

    You need to do a review or reaction or some kind of video on NF!!! The rapper is so interesting and has such a unique stance in the rap game. He is a Christian but he focuses on making his art GREAT instead of just making it christian. Not that Christian rap is bad, but sometimes it can be Christian for the sake of being Christian and the artist doesn’t do anything to improve their craft.
