I was in Samoa during the measles outbreak and spent time at the hospital - it was heartbreaking seeing so many lives lost and the broken families - I remember coming back to NZ and seeing this on TV and I bawled my eyes out 😭it meant so much! the power, the lyrics, the aroha shown in this performance, was just so beautiful
@@kinasandwich7624 do your research bro, you gotta go through the journey yourself to find out the whakapapa of our waka, Takitimu that was built in Upolu.
The woman leading the waiata (Song) she is part Maori, and part Samoan. She is a great example to both cultures. One Love to our poly cousins. I am from New Zealand
Fun fact I am Māori from Ngati kahungunu o Te Waka Takitimu and it is said that Takitimu canoe was built in Samoa!! And voyaged for Samoa to Aotearoa 🤙🏾 Abit of history on how close we are as Whanau. I believe we are all whanau (family) of Te Moana-Nui a kiwi ( Peolpe of the sea 😊👍🏾🤙🏾 chhheeeehuuu!!
Yeah, that's what we were taught too. Our waka Takitimu was built in Upolu and went around the Pacific before it finally came here with its crew of mixed Pacific Island whānau who are our ancestors. The Samoan whānau are our tuakana big brothers and sisters.
In translation to his speech in the beginning is in honour and a tribute to those whom we lost to the outbreak in Samoa and the part where they transition from Samoan to Maori is translating parts of the Samoan version also you were spot on about the meaning of the word MANA😊im pretty sure your one of us, tena koe brother ngā mihi nui
Aatahua(beautiful), first time hearing this waiata. Heads up to this kapahaka group this waiata sounded absolutely beautiful, I hope all the Samoans enjoyed aswell
Hh, my TUvalu workmates thought I was fluent in Samoan because I sing Samoan songs. But I just learn them from Fresh of the boat songs. Note I’m Maori/ European. This group is always guaranteed a position in the top 6 of the competitions. Also they do have a Gym regime as well as singing practice. They need the fitness to perform.
Talofa awesome that this was watched by you felt the proud and whelmness you've projected like the other two Samoan ladies who watched this also they two had an experience and shed some tears their RUclips reaction is awesome they go by life wyf caitb
Arohamai ehoa, but this Kaia maybe short, like me physically but gosh dang her voice tells me what's up. Love her leading role its so important in tines like these
This was a tribute to and for Samoa, when the hurricane hit. This is our way in supporting whats gng on with our islander borthers and sisters. Sorry if someone else haready said this. But WAY too many comments. lol.
Nah it was about the measles endemic that hit samoa. Joining those that passed away with those of the local community and those that passed when white island erupted a few years ago
I was really looking forward to your video, however it’s a shame that your Sounds are so messed up. You are really loud and dominating, while the vocals of the video is really low. I was struggling to hear this amazing singing. Very disappointed
Im Māori and this dedication to our cousins from Samoa still makes me cry when you think of the devastation our cuzzies suffered
