Some Christians wear veils that are made of lace and not uncomfortable at all. Veils are biblical and women are to wear them when praying, prophesying or for worship.

Thank you for the information but I still believe the veil should be worn. The sister s in my parish wear street clothes and no one knows their sisters unless someone tells them. I think that is a travisty.

Since the Cabra Dominican Nuns of Cape Town discarded their habits and veils they have shrunken into almost oblivion! There are less than 20 of them left all elderly and dressed like ordinary grannies. So sad no vocations for years and years they are almost finished!

Everybody knows the veil is the sign of consecration. That it might be asceticism just adds to its value. It's not hard to find a cap & veil made of cotton easy care material. That you might have to iron it for 5 minutes is no excuse. Plenty of lay working women have to spend more time ironing some of their clothes than you do.
Plenty of other nuns & sisters manage to wear a veil & cap or coif without all your complaints.

You don't wear veils because you don't follow the example of the Blessed Mother. You embrace the spirit of the world more than the spirit of Sacrifice. You don't value or understand the ancient mystery of femininity cloaked by the veil. You dont know how the veil is a figurment of the Ark of the Covenant. You are ignorant of it's special place. amongst the daughters of the new Eve. You've neglected to see how the veil is intricate in the relationship of those espoused to Christ. I recommend to you a talk given by Alice von Hillebrand on the veil. I think you will see how terribly mistaken you and all modern female religious are to have so carelessly discarded such a precious gift as the veil.

Just to let you know that these are Anglicans, so I doubt they care about the Blessed
Mother or tradition. As she said in the video, they have fewer vocations. And as we see in the last photo, they are all old (not very charitable to say - sorry!). The Anglicans/ Church of England/Episcopalians are dying out because it is man-made religion and not from Christ.

@@GBCompton So you doubt they know much about the Blessed Mother or tradition! I would suggest that you visit such Anglican churches as St Mary the Virgin in New York, the Church of the Advent in Boston, and the other Anglican High churches around the country. I hope you like incense, dalmatics, tunicles, maniples, and chants as well as their very traditional ad orientem Masses. Re: their views about Mary, for the record they recognize the dogma upheld at the Council of Ephesus in 431 that Mary is the Theotokos, the God bearer, that is the Mother of God ,the same doctrine held by Catholic and Orthodox churches. So before you flout your ageist, uninformed, snotty comments, do some research.

Couldn’t you use a light cotton veil and iron it yourself? It would take mere seconds to do that? I iron my cotton bedsheets in a few minutes.
Or, change the veil for a mantilla which is light and airy.
Pleased you do still wear a habit, though.

I have a distain and dislike for non-thinking "catholics" . I was raised catholic but was taught to think by a progressive order of sisters. How stupid to feel ( not think) you should say how the sisters should clothe themselves. You are probably one of the many narrow minded catholics believing all the Bullshit the political "church" tells you . Try thinking on your own.

Hello Sister Monica Clare. I'm a new subscriber and I'm delighted to have found you.
I was baptized as a Catholic when I was a baby but my parents converted and became episcopalians. Ironically I had my higher education at a Jesuit college here in San Francisco, the University of San Francisco received an excellent higher education. Jesuits don't teach you what to think but how to think. I'm 71 and a senior now and am currently living in what was once a Catholic convent that was converted about three years ago to single room occupancy for low-income seniors 62 +.
God bless you and I look forward to your next video.

I think (I haven't looked it up or thought about it recently) that veils were worn historically due to the demand for modesty by the church. My aunt is a nun but her order doesn't even mandate a habit. She is only required to wear some kind of symbol that shows she belongs to her order.

Sister Margaret Helena several times during my North Jersey years. She was a lovely woman. The Community was still wearing that simplified white band veil when I would go out to Chatham; makes sense, polyester is awful. Some "lightweight' Eucharistic vestments I've had to wear were polyester and drenched me in summer!

Do you ever wear veils at all, like for special occasions or holidays, or when you go to church for weekly services? I don't get why so many convents either wear the full habit all the time, or never wear it. Why not wear regular clothes, behind closed doors in the convent, when you're doing chores and stuff, but also wear the habit and veil when you go out in public, or for special occasions?

I grew up going to a tyrannical fundamentalist megachurch, and now I'm thinking of going Episcopalian because of the church's open-mindedness on a lot of issues, among other things. However, I'm not entirely sure my beliefs are 100% aligned with those of the church. I'm really progressive on some issues, and really conservative on others. For example, I'm pro-LGBTQ but also pro-life. Would this be a problem?
