  • Lofting is the process of taking a table of offsets from a set of boat plans and drawing them out full size. This creates all the shapes and patterns necessary to build the boat. For previously mentioned videos on taking lines link is • Taking Lines

Who's the author of the second lofting book Rod? I've always found Chapelle is my go-to for detailed instructions.

Lofting a Boat by Roger Kopanycia. Got mine off of Amazon. I read that make sure you get latest version as some say there were errors in previous versions.

I did not go into that much detail on this video series. I would suggest purchasing the books mentioned in the series and possibly look for Howard Chappelle's book on Boatbuilding. The more you read and watch, the more it makes sense.

Can I suggest that you do something about the echoing. It's pretty harsh.

Not quite sure what you are referring to. Is it the fact that I am working in a small shop and not using professional staff or equipment?

OrcaBoats no, it’s great you’re doing it yourself. Just saying to add something to absorb the sound reflections. You can even make sound absorbing panels yourself, and make a video of before and after or something of that nature. I enjoyed the content of this video, just suggesting to make this more watchable, that you get rid of or atleast minimize the echoing.

what do do if your boat is quite long, say 20 to 25 feet? Not practical to try and do in full size. Thanks.

Yes. Boats that size, if building from scratch, do get drawn out full size on the floor. There a few current projects that show this. Take a look at first few videos in series on Acorn to Arabella or Tally Ho.

What happened at 9:12? you skipped that essential step.

Not sure your question, but I plotted out all the points from the table of offsets to get the arc shown a few seconds later for the sheer line.
