Thanks man, been saving this one for a while, flying been crappy and I've been lazy need to edit the rest of my CA trip instead of staring at the wall petting the cats.
Thanks, it's a tricky, scary launch. Which is why there are so many requirements to fly it .. P4, almost all the special skills, membership in SSA and a sign off by a guide on the 1st flight. I've come closer to killing myself here than anywhere...
It's a great motivator for getting a P4 plus the other special skills and Mountain experience, it's one of just two places I know of in the USA where there is a tram ride to launch.
Have you flown Sandia Peak? Definitely not trivial. The pilot at 1:37 is about 75 years old, started flying HG in the 70s, been flying PG for 20 years. He is willing to accept the risks and BTW has never had a serious injury. Of course, he could die on his next flight... but he has lived life to his fullest.
Dear Nelson Thank you for the wonderful movies you upload. Regardless, I'm getting ready to purchase a new canopy. I'm tossing between the "Swift 5" and the "x i" Maybe you can help me? What do you think?
I'm unfamiliar with that wing. It looks good on paper. However, it is a 2018 design, so I'd make sure the XI 2 is not about to be released. Same with the Swift 5. I think the Swift 6 is due in 2021. The high B market is very competitive! The Swing Arcus RS 2 will be out soon also, 57 cells. It is a great time to be alive.
What's your current favorite all-around wing, you fly so many. Going to need to replace my Nyos at some point. Swift and GEO are on my radar. Any thoughts?
Not sure one wing is good for everything. Right now I'm really liking my Nyos. I'm not a good enough pilot to manage my Alpina 3 in the punchy, violent thermals we have around here, and the launches are tight and unforgiving, but the Alpina is really fun in the mellower CA fall and winter air. The GEO would probably be good in most conditions here; I flew my GEO 5 for almost two years and it took good care of me. But it doesn't glide as well as the Nyos. Why limit yourself to one wing? Do you wear tennis shoes on rough winter hikes?
Take a look at the Swing Helios, but I recommend at least 300 hours before you move up. BTW I'm selling my Swift 5 ML, I can't justify having two high Bs and lightweight hike and fly wings.
@@NelsonsWings I like the Nyos so much I'm not in a rush. In full summer I did find it overly active, more a problem of my lack of bump tolerance. I was looking at the Buzz 6 but light wind pull-ups are not that great, hence GEO. Is the GEO calmer in harsh conditions than the Nyos?
Yes... it has happened to all of us think! The latest Cloudbase Mayhem mentions turning the wrong way. Russ Ogden, Gavin McClurg, fessed up that has happened to them too LOL
Can you try to compare the comfort between Swift 5 and Geo 6? Im used to Alpina2 and little bit Delta 3 so i can handle the Swift. I did not like the Delta 3 so much, it did not tell me anything through the breaks (rubber band feeling) Is the Swift 5 also like thet? Or is it more like old Ozone gliders?
The S5 is a great, agile wing with lots of feedback. It moves quite a bit, and requires much more precise piloting and pilot reactions to deflations. The Nyos RS does not feel agile although it does respond and is not sluggish. I agree with Ziad Basil's assessment, as soon as you are in the air, the impression is "immediate comfort sensation". Around here, with crazy air and sharp edged thermals, I really like the way the Nyos RS smooths out the bumps and stays overhead. I've not yet tested the RAST in a deflation, but so far, it feels very reassuring. It launches like an EN A due to the RAST, and the tests reports reflect that. I don't fly enough and my reflexes are too slow, to feel safe on S5 in big air.
Helmet cam makes it obvious that you are not clearing your turns beforehand. Even if there are 0 pilots in the air you need to habitually clear your turns
Yes. PG is not a safe activity. BTW people have been seriously injured when lines wrapped around their necks and choked them unconcious, for example at Cuervo's Texas Lone Star event in Hearn a few years ago.
Nice landing! I luv the launches......always a challenge!! Looked like a really nice flight.

Those slopes are so beautiful! Seems like it’d intimidate me though. Great video. Loving them all.

nice flying ..look at that place !! thank you

After 4 days of parawaiting..... you deserve a flight like that!!
1:37 exactly why I don't like flying with others because so many are over their head in desire and under their head in skills

Help me out, who manufacturers the XI?

@@ilanbecker497 And XC magazine issue 214 just reviewed the Air Des Rise 4, an interesting High B. Not super light, though.
Right around the 10:00 mark that was a ripping thermal!
It was big by my standards, but not by Sandia standards. Which is why my future flights there will be on the Nyos!

I agree. But with my back and neck problems I can't turn my head enough to properly clear them. Probably not a good idea to fly with me!

Lol, yeah... summer time and the launch is 10,300...I was slacking.
