I am a loc'd teacher, and anytime I see a student with starter locks, I make sure to encourage them. Actually, I do that with every student with their natural hair. I want them to know our hair is beautiful.
I was hoping that I saw a comment like this…bless you Brooke! You don’t know how much of God’s work you’re doing. Please keep encouraging our black youth to love their hair, it’s so important to their confidence and self esteem. Thank you so much for all the positivity & love that you spread! ❤️
A powerful story… I got my first relaxer because some other black girl teased me about my hair. She pretended that she cut her finger on my hair and had the whole bus laughing at me. I am going to start my loc journey because I want to embrace my natural hair and for once in my life love my hair for what it is.
🥺😥 What a powerful story! Wow! Brought back feelings from when I was struggling with my hair and acceptance in high school. 😔 Thank you for sharing! I sure hope "Taylor" hears your message and comes back "home" where she belongs! My hair self hate started when I was around 10 years old. I am so sorry it took me 45 more years of struggling with my hair and hating my hair and covering my hair and unnaturally trying to straighten my hair... to feel love and acceptance... 45 long painful years to discover where I should have been years ago. To feel the self love and acceptance that I feel now. I too lacked the courage to embrace the locs. Years ago, I did not like the look of locs. I did not know and therefore I could not as appreciate what locs really were and what locs really meant. So I'll spend the remainder of my days defending locs, supporting locs, and loving ALL loc wearers. You are one heck of a speaker! Wow!
You are my spirit animal Beasley! 🫶🏾I feel like we were homies in another lifetime I swear! Lol Thank you for sharing your story, unfortunately, far too many black girls go through this frightening experience regarding their decision to loc their hair while young, I hope more people see your beautifully worded comment and feel at peace! ❤️
This was such a powerful story! I'm on my second set of locs and my 14 daughter, who starts high school next month really wants to loc her hair but I'm hesitant to let her because I know how cruel people can be. I'm going to show her this video and after watching it if she still wants to loc her hair I'm going to let her. 😊Thank you so much for sharing this! ❤️
A Grio or Grio(t) is a storyteller. They are African storytellers/ oral historian responsible for passing stories on. You add flavor when you are sharing information so you hold our attention..
Aww, thanks! I just learned a new word today lol Glad you were feeling the story, I just try to keep it real and engaging for y’all. Appreciate the love! ❤️
Well, my reasons to loc my hair wasn't ANY of these things either 🤷🏾♀️🙃 I wanted the freedom of spending extra time on "perfecting" my tresses. I just finally allowed it to BE... No matter what the reason(s) is for doing WHATEVER to your hair, it should bring YOU whatever you need/want. ❤ TFS!
Yes, BINGO! I didn’t want to “ Try” so hard…I just wanted to “be”. My hair is already perfect, I don’t need to “ fix” anything. This is how God wanted my hair to look and he makes no mistakes! Thank you for your insightful comment! ☺️
What an amazing story. I love this message ❤️. My 6 year old has the most amazing head of hair, and my goal is for her to fall in love with it more every day.
