  • Ours is the second bus. With the ratty roof A/Cs lol.
    This was out in the high desert of Southern California, in Phelan, Ca (pronounced "faylun", but often confused with the much less common double "e" version of the name "Pheelan", pronounced "feelun"). We are primarily a Crown Coach group, but also Gilligs, and really buses in general :)

      @@cam43002 First of all, no. That bus sounds like shit.
      Second of all, most of these buses have ten-speeds. I guess because a Lonestar is slower than Durastar that the Durastar has a more powerful engine, right?

    • @nowhere2471
      @nowhere2471 3 года назад

      @@WeatherxCalipha I would guess the Lonestar would be more powerful since it's heavier, but...it's heavier so it would be slower, yes.

    @ realvanman: just curious if your a Crown Coach collector?. What kind of price tag are the older Crown coaches bringing these days, I would love to convert a Crown Coach into a motor home, far superior quality than any motor home available today.

      Hi Eric, I have a couple. ;) The second one in this film is one of mine. Their prices vary widely based on condition, engine/trans, location, and how well advertised. Anywhere from a couple thousand to well more than ten or even fifteen. There is a Yahoo group called Crown Coach Junkies and a Facebook group by the same name. A lot of the guys there are preservationists, but most everyone appreciates a very nicely done conversion. There is also a Facebook Bus Conversion group. Lot of great people on these forums. Hope to see you there! Regards, Keith

      realvanman1 : Hello Keith, thank you for your reply and invite I appreciate that and will most definitely check out those sites. A couple of questions for you Keith, I'am curious as to how well those Detroit Diesel engines handle long hours on the freeway as opposed to a 4 stroke engine. Two strokes are snappy and great for city stop and go traffic but, are they reliable for long distance cross country work???. Also what is the difference between the two axle and three axle busses, they appear to have the same seating capacity, so what is the theory behind the extra third axle???.
      Kind regards, Eric Dee

    • @realvanman1
      @realvanman1  6 лет назад

      Either engine, properly maintained, are fantastic machines. The three axle ones are five feet longer, 90 vs 78 passenger (typically). On the models with both rear axles driven, they have much better traction off road or on otherwise slippery roads. In later years they built two axle buses at 36, 38, and 40 foot.

      Oh yeah, LOVE the sweet sound of a Detroit powered firetruck! Around here they all had snappy shifting automatics. There are still a couple left I guess, but it's rare to see them. CA sucks.

      They shouldn't smoke like that, and I'm not sure what the resolution ultimately ended up being. Might have had the wrong injectors (too big) for a naturally aspirated engine...
