The Great Disaster titles weren't part of the Fourth World. In fact, Kamandi, OMAC, and The Demon, are the books DC cancelled New Gods and Forever People in order to make Kirby do, were the opposite of Fourth World. He did them because he was under exclusive contract and couldn't work anywhere else in the comics industry. On top of that, he legally had to produce at least 62 comic pages a month or he would not be paid. So, he did them just long enough to ride out his contract with no particular love for the characters and concepts. I think it shows in the quality of the work. The creation of these titles, and the failure of the books he did in the year following upon his return to Marvel, led to him going into animation up until his death.

I was a bit bummed when Kamandi came back to the Tommorowverse a couple years later for "Crisis on Infinite Earths" parts 2&3, and Cameron Monaghan didn't voice him... but hey, he was instead voiced by Terry McGinnis from *Batman Beyond* himself, Will Friedle, so I wasn't too outraged either. I'm getting Spider-Man Unlimited vibes from Kamandi, quite honestly. I am very intrigued and hope DC does something with this character and the world because it has a lot of potential.
Like almost everything Kirby did post Fourth World, the potential is there but his heart wasn't in it. It fails to live up to that potential. Even a quarter of the 4th World stuff doesn't really. Mostly since he abandoned writing Jimmy Olsen early on. Funny, as much as he supposedly HATED the Marvel/Stan Lee method of writing comics, that's exactly what he did on Jimmy Olsen shortly after he started on it. He wrote a plot out with one of his assistants. He drew the story... and then one or more of his assistants would write the script. (Some of that happened because DC was fine with Kirby going Kirby on Kirby creations. But wanted the DC house style on characters like Superman, Jimmy Olsen, Lois Lane, etc. They brought in Curt Swan to 'fix' Kirby's art. Hence, after a while you mostly only see Jimmy and Perry White during the 4th World era.)
Hello @Santi Barrios sorry for the late reply but I forgot to tell you something about the video. I think that Seth Green would have the voice for Kamandi what do you think.
I'd seriously love to see an animated series of Kamandi. It'll make such a great storytelling, about a boy who's the last of his kind.just think about the crazy and intense journey he had to go through in this intense apocalyptic world, ruled by animal people.
The premise for the show sounds like it would've pretty much been Beavis & Butthead: At Earth's End. It probably would've been alright & funny for a while, but I'd prefer a more serious take on Kamandi. It shouldn't be completely serious & dour; it should have some humor but take its world seriously. Something like Samurai Jack, where the character has his main goal he's trying to accomplish, but each episode is a self-contained adventure he has on his journey.
Interesting video, but you barely touched on Kamandi's adventures on the animated series #BatmantheBraveandtheBold .... No, thanks. "Struggling to get laid to never having it happen " It gets frickin old. Glad Kamandi was rejected. Finn the Human in Adventure Time is Kamandi enough for Cartoon Network.
For me personally it would depend on the execution. If he is supposed to be a teen boy, especially under the circumstances, how could trying to find a girl friend not be a major focus of his concern? Ideally it should, and it seemed it would, also focus on his other needs and missions. And it would be almost like a macguffin most of the time, with the show not literally being _about_ that which would certainly be lame and monotonous. Other stuff would certainly have to end up being the focus of the adventure. Again, I could write an adventure serial about a guy looking for the Hope Diamond that would end up having almost nothing to do with the Hope Diamond all the time. Anyway to me the details of this world seem very exciting and promising and with a lot of potential to be quite original.
they should have pitched it at the first rejection as its an adult take of adventure time. adventure time was a very child friendly take of kamandi. i saw that when it came out. and it has that girl crazy take. and adventure time was a banger

I think it would have been a good show I mean Harley Quinn got her own show and it had both comedy and action and a bit of drama. Also hi @Santi Barrios how are you sorry for not replying in your other videos.
Harley Quinn really paved the way for all the adult comic book shows we've seen the last few years. And thank you!! I really appreciate that you keep enjoying the videos :)
In a lot of ways we got it through a spiritual successor to Kamandi with Adventure Time. Think about it... After the a cataclysmic event leading to the post apocalypse... The Mushroom War/ The Great Disaster Humanity has been limited and reduced to a primitive state... Humans of Ooh/ Humans of Earth-AD A boy and his talking dog companion... Finn & Jake / Kamdi & Doctor Canus Go on adventures across the post apocalyptic waste land...Land of Ooh / Earth-AD Along the way they encounter incredible seemingly magic technologies wielded by insane villains... Ice King / The Misfit And domains, kingdoms and territories have been established by multiple great powers across the globe... Candy Kingdom, Ice Kingdom / Ape Kingdom, Tiger Empire Even tonally balancing comedy and drama. Adventure Time and Kamandi are both ripe for the whimsy of the post apocalyptic Jungle Book by way of the coming of age that comes with being a teen. It sure would be cool for Kamandi to get a bit more traction because its so overlooked. Honestly a video game it could be awesome and a lot of fun. Combine Legend of Zelda Echoes of the Kingdom art direction and some game play by way of Final Fantasy Tactics A2 class, party and recruitment system. You can end up with something pretty cool.
DC would truly be able to compete with Disney/Marvel if they would just let these awesome projects be released. They have more potentially awesome projects scrapped than they have successful releases 👎
Yuck. Kamandi was a great comic and this comedic take could only have crapped all over it. Write something new if you think you have an idea, but dragging down another person’s creation because you are creatively empty is just cheap.
I'm really inclined to disagree with this, especially when we're talking about Evan Dorkin. His sensibilities may lie elsewhere, but clearly his take on the property came from a place of love even if there was a level of irreverence present in his approach. He certainly would've at least put something into the concept that spoke to a creative effort and inspiration as his other projects like The Eltingville Club and Fight Man! have shown.
@ This series was my favorite as a kid. I didn’t care much for what happened when Kirby left, hated the post crisis revamp, and dread what the “Fun with Milk and Cheese” creator would have done with it. It was a great example of extended sequential adventure, and Kirby escaped the “character fatigue” that can occur in monthly titles by introducing interesting new characters then either saying farewell to them or killing them off. It’s too substantial a legacy to treat so irreverently. IMO.
I'm kiiiinda think it was for the better this show wasn't picked up. Not that I don't like the idea, and I know Kamandi is very obscure DC character with that most exposure he got was his apperances in Brave and Bolt. But if what I learn about comic book fans, is that they don't like taking comic book characters that were reletivly serious, and turning them into parodies (cough TTG cough) and I think this would just spawn another needless discourse, especially it being first adaptation project of a character. Plus, like how other commentators said, Adventure Time was sort of a spiritual succesor to Kamandi, even if it might have been unintentional.
DC's lack of faith on any IP that isn't Batman will always be disappointing to me.

Feels awfully like adventure time came about because Kamandi didn’t come about because planet of the apes was a no go.
Plastic Man Adult Swim (?)
No on rne first pitch, yes on the last.
Never knew this.
In a lot of ways we got it through a spiritual successor to Kamandi with Adventure Time.
Think about it...
After the a cataclysmic event leading to the post apocalypse... The Mushroom War/ The Great Disaster
Humanity has been limited and reduced to a primitive state... Humans of Ooh/ Humans of Earth-AD
A boy and his talking dog companion... Finn & Jake / Kamdi & Doctor Canus
Go on adventures across the post apocalyptic waste land...Land of Ooh / Earth-AD
Along the way they encounter incredible seemingly magic technologies wielded by insane villains... Ice King / The Misfit
And domains, kingdoms and territories have been established by multiple great powers across the globe... Candy Kingdom, Ice Kingdom / Ape Kingdom, Tiger Empire
Even tonally balancing comedy and drama.
You can end up with something pretty cool.
this show would have made him well know just like marvel did with antman
1:11 i think its cos of max
at least back when it started
DC would truly be able to compete with Disney/Marvel if they would just let these awesome projects be released. They have more potentially awesome projects scrapped than they have successful releases 👎
11:55 hell yeah , that something i definitely would watch , not the trashy adult swim garbage
I would like the animated series to be action-oriented. Comedy in the now-entertainment is crud.
Adventure Time was this ....
Yes more OMAC
Even dorkins rules
Idgaf This shoulda came out
This pitch is terrible. Glad this didn’t happen.
Adult swim is and cartoon netowork is dying and zvala has killed them
I'm glad this series never happened. It sounds terrible.
Adult Swim is a joke now.
IMO.
Mmm.... Nah...
Too much libid anger with that man, I personally wouldn't give him creative control.
Adult swim and cartoon network are dead
Not gonna lie this sounds awful
Keep it up G! I loved hearing about this.
Give jackson publick and doc hammer a dc show
