there were *20* of these?! well that's definitely 21 more than I'd be willing to play, that's for sure. thanks for putting up with these so we don't have to.
when I went to PRGE 2023 a vendor was trying to sell this (cartridge only) for a whopping $35 I did thankfully talk them down to a much lower and reasonable price but even then I felt like I overpaid for something that will forever sit on my shelf
Not going to lie here, the pachinko and mahjong are slowly becoming the highlight of famidaily for me. Like yea the sell known games are cool and all, but who else would know or even show footage of these? When the name Pachiokun popped up again on the playlist this time, I went "Yes!" out loud
Pachinko, mahjong and baseball - the unholy trinity of gaming genres that are popular in Japan (dishonorable mention goes to horse racing and cheap VN games later on). :v
Hey, do you have the special pachinko controller? I don't recall if you've mentioned it in this series before. It kinda looks like a duck. A g-image search reveals it was made by Coconuts themselves.
The Pachinko controller was released July 19, 1991 to coincide with a different pachinko game. Also, I got it in the mail yesterday and I'm recording an episode featuring it next Saturday (if I stay on schedule).
Here we got with another "adult priced" Famicom game. I have to say though, this was a total rip-off, even if you were a fan of pachinko. An adult might be able to trick himself into thinking he's getting something valuable with horse race betting simulation or stock market simulation... but this is just a mindless baby pachinko game. This is your standard 3 megabit MMC3 game, which should be commonplace by now. The battery back-up feature should not have made this so expensive. The previous games didn't cost that much and it doesn't make sense for the battery feature to shoot this series up by 2k yen. I still like the cutesy presentation I guess.
I thought Kunio-kun was the biggest franchise on the Famicom, and even if it's not I'm just going to say it is to make myself feel better. I am looking forward to the day that Coconuts Japan moves away (maybe?) from pachinko and table games and into more standard action games ;p
I don't think they ever do, at least on Famicom... I believe they had some board games and maybe racing games too, but no actual action games; just pachinko and slots. Guess we'd have to move to Super Famicom to see some more diverse games from them.
