As yet another market innovation of Dragon Ball, the Z branding was added at the request of Torishima, Dragon Ball’s legendary _tantōsha_ / manager to help Shueisha (and himself) renegotiate the rights of the "new" anime adaptation (giving themselves a much higher payout in the process obviously). Hence why the manga never needed to add the "Z" and stayed Dragon Ball until the original ending of the series. This "rebranding upon renegotiation" tactics would become a common trend for successful long-running animated TV shows from that point. There is also a subtle difference in royalty rates for such games depending on whether a video game is adapted from the anime or (very rare case) officially adapted from the original manga instead.
Ah yes, that series that was barely known at the time this game came out, but is now one of the most well-known Japanese series in the West. This game also sold very well from what I've checked (not surprisingly). Still, I feel that Dragon Ball is better as an action RPG or just a straight-up fighting game.
the descriptions make these episodes so much better, haha... and then I heard your Nappa, I am quite dead thanks. I still find it odd they went with the card/boardgame kinda thing... so I never really got into any of these. I was far more fond of the SFC fighting games compared to these. (also guilty as charged, haha)
While I'm goofy, I try to keep the goofs down in the videos so they're not the focus of things. Though I know I get pretty silly with a few episodes that are coming up this month.
good lord, another Famicom game that's nearly 8000 yen, but this one is for KIDS! How are these poor kids supposed to afford this one? Granted, this is a large 4 megabit game with an EEPROM for saving, but it really shouldn't have been this expensive. These manufacturing costs must have been hurting these game companies, especially with the 16 (and 16-ish) bit consoles on the market that looked better.
Yeah, we're at a point of weird price instability. Some people are going cheap, other people are pushing the upper boundaries and prices are all over the place. Super Famicom titles will settle in at being about 10000 yen, so kids really needed to save their allowances.
I like the part where everyone congratulates Goku.

"It's...1006." "Really?" "Yeah. Kick his ass, Nappa."
💯👍
Good to see the Toei mascot making a cameo on the game's box art.

"IT"S OVER 9000!!" You forgot the most iconic Vegeta line of all time!! (You're damn right I said it out loud ;) )
A 15 minute DBZ fight is pretty snappy though; usually it took 10s of episodes to resolve!
🤣🤣🤣

Never heard you made an impression before

@@RndStranger I find it charming, but god people get grumpy about that kind of stuff, especially if it's not one's usual brand.

Is pester power a thing in Japan? That's certainly how the suits would justify something like that over here.
