    I just googled the difference between pre and post looper but didn't find any answer quickly so I watched this one. The answer was explained within the first few minutes of the video and more demonstrations so I'm glad I opened it.

    I didn't buy the Microcosm for the looper but for the FX. Your last 2 demonstrations are making me look at it quite differently. Thanks!

    Thanks for this video. I've seen countless Microcosm demos, but this is the first I've seen anyone doing any kind of decent looping, and *your looping is amazing, as always*. Did I mention I'm only 30 seconds into the "Recording" section at 2:15?

      lol my thoughts exactly. I was just starting to think the Microcosm wasn't able to do the kind of things with loops that I was looking for, then I saw this 😄

    I have seen none videos which show the depth of the Microcosm like this one. I hope Hologram sees abs groks what you've freaky die here. This pedal is an instrument - one that I now need to sell equipment to buy, thanks to you, Andre. Killer filmmaking as well, all the captions and storytelling topnotch, not to mention the music creation. Respect.

    I've had a MC for a few months now and always thought it was great. Your videos really opened my eyes on how to get so much more out of it. I barely touched the looper and now I can't get enough. It's all starting to make sense now. I actually started with your Cosmos tutorials and came very close to buying one today. I think these Microcosm videos showed me I still have lots to learn with this device first. I will get a Cosmos eventually - it's just so strangely intriguing. Thanks a lot!

      Thanks so much! The Cosmos and MC definitely share some similar territory - I think the MC covers a wider range of stuff, while the Cosmos has a narrower focus, but goes *really* in-depth with it. Thanks again!

    I'm amazed to have found this video. The Microcosm was the first pedal I got after my guitar and it's been a great ambient companion, but I've shifted my gaze to my more recent acquisitions (Mood MKII and others). I didn't know there was an auto-feedback feature, it's not mentioned in the manual! Always thought some kind of loop decay like that would be cool, it seems I didn't overdub for so long to realize that as you did. If only the threshold to which it kicks-in could be adjusted so that it engages earlier before it's already getting too messy. This video makes me want to go and play the MC. Great playing!

      Thanks so much! I definitely find that using the MC with a separate looper that *does* have feedback opens the door to a whole different world of development.

    On my Microcosm, when using vari-speed and overdubbing, the overdubs themselves play back noticeably darker, and when returning to normal speed, everything at times remains darkened. Even new overdubs. Occasionally, I can get things to return to normal by slowing the loop down/speeding up and returning to normal, but more often I have to do a global reset to return the crispness that has been lost when overdubbing over vari-speed. Maybe it's an issue with the latest firmware. Not sure. I've written them about it. Your overdubs sound just fine here when you do it. Great vid.

    Your videos, beyond being very informative, display a great musicality. Awesome. This Microcosm allows for some instant Steve Reich ! Sounds great, thank you ! A question I have for you as you seem to have spent some good time with this device : what is the level of unpredictability in the outcomes of the algorithms ? In other words, does the Microcosm lead to similar outcomes, a defined rhythmic/harmonic impact that is always identifiable as its own ?

    • @andrelafosse
      @andrelafosse  Год назад

      Thanks very much! Absolutely, it can do "Reich and Riley in a box" really well. :)
      I still find myself surprised (almost always pleasantly so) by some of the things it sends back to me. As I spend more time with certain effects (the "Glitch" category is where I spend 90% of my time), I certainly get to know them better, and have a better sense of what they're going to do. I will say that the Blocks algorithms have become pretty familiar to me, though I don't always know exactly what kind of rhythmic pattern it's going to produce. I could also see using MIDI LFOs (or other kinds of quasi-randomized MIDI commands) to adjust the various parameters in different ways.
      Harmonically, I think the extra intervals are pretty much exclusively octaves up and down, so I don't think any of them are going to steer content in any particular harmonic (or melodic) direction, beyond what you play into it.

    Very in depth video!!! I struggle to understand exactly what the quantize function in the looper do. And doesn’t seem to be able to have the loop’s start and end point match up nicely with microcosm’s tap tempo tempo…

    • @andrelafosse
      @andrelafosse  2 года назад

      Locking in with the tap tempo is exactly what the looper quantize function is designed for. But I also had some issues with it at first!
      One thing I try to do is get as close as possible to the "actual" downbeat with my switch timing as possible. If I try and "make the looper quantize do the hard work," sometimes it "guesses" wrong.
      I also find that some of the algorithms will reset the audible downbeat as soon as you press "Record," whereas other algorithms don't do that. So there are times when the looper sounds "off" because of that, even if it is technically quantized.
      For me, the two main things are: 1) try to be as precise as possible with my *own* timing, when recording and setting the phrase looper, and 2) get to know the algorithms I like using a lot, to learn which ones reset upon hitting "record" (Blocks and Arp do this) and which one's don't (Seq does not, for instance).

    Andre, thanks this is masterful. What did you do at 14.56? Is there a digitech whammy hideen under the table? Got the mc, bosrc505, trying to decide between loupe and soma cosmos…. And btw… hologram: still looking for a nice implementation of the glide algo… even here it was more of an accident… what where you thinking? Would be so nice to be able to deep edit some algos… thx for your work!

    • @andrelafosse
      @andrelafosse  Год назад

      Thanks very much! No Whammy pedal here - any high pitched stuff is either a harmonic on the guitar, or the Microcosm pitch-shifting a repeat up an octave.
      Cosmos and Loupe are incredibly different worlds to explore! Cosmos = very fixed, focused, deliberately limited paradigm, easy to get lost in, easy to make sound good. Loupe = vast in its scope and depth, extremely user-configurable, also easy to get lost in, but requires a good amount of study and practice to really get the hang of, IMO.
      Editing Micro algos could be sweet - I'm never found a good use for the glide stuff, myself. When it's set to a very short time, it does kind of a cool thing to the attack on notes, without necessarily sounding like a *PITCH SHIFT* in giant neon capital letters. Honestly, I spend most of my Microcosm time just hanging out with the three Glitch algos, so it's not a huge deal.
