    I just got a microcosm finally after putting it off since it came out, I'm enjoying it.

    This is so rad. Amazing work, have wanted to see this kind of video for a while now. Really making me want a Morningstar!

      Thanks so much! (And/but, apologies for fueling the gear lust...)

    Thank you so much for these videos! I’ve been messing around with guitars and pedals for a few decades now but the world of MIDI is new to me so this is an invaluable resource.

    This series of videos is exactly what i needed. I’d been debating selling my mc8 because i decided not to use it on my pedalboard (as well as the current - as i’m writing this- unavailability of them) but i’m now setting up the microcosm and a polymoon as external effects through my mixer sends. I’m now insanely inspired to explore the potential of the mc8 with them in this new setup. Thank you.

    Sensational! Andre what are the MC8 CC settings for Post and Pre Fx and how did you get the display to change on the MC8? , I have the Microcosm CC commands from the instructions but am stumped Help me Obi-Wan!

      Thanks! Pre/Post FX MIDI is a little tricky, because it's one CC (#24) that depends on the specific value. If the value of CC#24 is 0-63, it'll be Post FX. If the value is 64-127, it's Pre FX. Does that make sense?
      As far as brightening the MC8 display - I'm afraid that's something I did in post-production, to make the display easier to read on-camera. A lot of display screens don't translate well when they're filmed, so I often isolate just the screen area, and apply specific color grading to just that spot.

      @@andrelafosse thank you so much, regarding the display, sorry I was not clear, I meant the name change on the display - is that using the toggle setting on the Mc8?

      @@andrewmurray007 Oh, got it! Each bank can have two "pages," which you can switch between. It's like having different banks, except one command will toggle back and forth between those two specific "banks." It's useful if there's a pair of pages you frequently switch between, and also nice because you can use just one command to repeatedly switch between them. For this video, I was probably using the "page toggle" function on the software editor.

    The opening music piece is incredible. (So are most of your jams in this video). Is it a custom preset, or do the microcosm controls in the video represent how it’s set during that piece?

    • @andrelafosse
      @andrelafosse  Год назад

      Thanks! That's mainly Interrupt B, with activity at max, repeats somewhere around 50% or so, and time probably 2x or 4x. The big thing here is that "quantize" is on, so the phrase looper's length is perfectly sync'd to the timing of the granular effects. So you can fire off these very fast, complex, rhythmic bursts, but they'll be lined up rhythmically as they're overdubbed into the loop.

    Hi Andre, I've been following your Microcosm/MC8 tutorials with great interest, and I've implemented some of your settings in my workflow. However, I've noticed that all this "hacking" and midi manipulation makes the Microcosm qui unstable. After a while, the presets don't seem to work as well as before, and, more curious still, I seem to be unable to erase a recorded loop whether with the MC8 or the Microcosm footswitch ! Have you noticed similar behavior ?

      Hi! I have noticed occasional oddness with the Microcosm, but I haven't specifically found it to be tied to MIDI control.
      Sometimes doing lots of stuff in rapid succession, over an extended period of time, leads to strange things happening. But there's very little I've found that's consistently traceable, and it doesn't seem specific to using either the Beatstep or the Morningstar.
      I also don't use user presets at all, so I don't have any experience with that, nor would I know what to look for. (I'm not opposed to learning, but it's foreign territory for me, thus far.)
      Occasionally, if strange stuff occurs, I've done the "power off and restart" thing, or even the "hard reset to factory defaults" bit. Doing one of those seems to clear things up, though of course they're last resort things.
      Are there particular types of functions that tend to consistently lead to weird results, in your experience?
