It's both it being point blank and the placement of the shot being not in the middle. The bullet probably just scraped the brain, leaving most of it intact. As long as the brainstem remains untouched and there's not a large portion of the rest of the brain destroyed, the survival change of an injury like that is bigger than one might suspect.

Adrenaline doesn't really matter. As long as you're not shot in the center of your brain, you won't die instantly and in some cases, might not even lose consciousness.

I just realized, when Rex got shot, the gun was at the upper right corner of the skull, meaning he did get shot but the bullet didn't hit any vital parts of the brain. So Lizard King was just too cocky, that he shot in the wrong spot. Clever detail and Sweet Karma. 👌👍👍

The second option is that the bullet somehow did penetrate the skull and exit the other side, missing the brain completely. The human brain is much smaller than the outer dimensions of the head, and the barrel of the gun was certainly lined up outside the area the brain occupies. This option is much less probable and much less survivable.

One thing people don't know is Rex does have some super strength durability and endurance. Not nearly as much as a lot of the Guardians but hes not a normal human that can make things explode.
So many people think headshots are 100% fatal, which if they're anything but smaller caliber weapons they are, but a headshot from a pistol, that doesn't cross both hemispheres of the brain, is survivable.
Rex durability is really really really high it’s in order for him to deal with his bombs if they ever explode in front of him or around him. That’s why the gunshot to his head may have hurt him but it didn’t kill him right away

And my little brother was shot between the eyes during a car jacking. He managed to stumble into the E.R and died prior to surgery
There is actually an explanation for this. Rex's skin is actually more resilient thant the average human. He is a goverment experiment like Eve, they made him thougher so he could resist his own explotions

There is actually an explanation for this. Rex's skin is actually more resilient thant the average human. He is a goverment experiment like Eve, they made him thougher so he could resist his own explotions
Im sure if these people actually read the comics and read Rex's origin story they'll understand why rex survived

I think it was cybernetic implants in his brain that made him survive I think that is why if I remember correctly 🤔
Some people in the comments getting mad at Rex for still being alive after a shot to the head is kind of hilarious considering characters like Donald and Rick, who were basically rebuilt. I understand the frustration towards Rex still being able to get up and fight after being shot point blank in the head, but like c'mon, the lizard league as a whole sucks, and that especially goes for their leader.
Dont shoot Rex in the head, it'll just piss him off.

I know a guy who was shot in the head. He's fully functional except his speech is sometimes very slurred and his left eye is fucked.
