Good morning team! Gil, excellent show. I love the mailbag episode. I agree with everything you said about our drafted players making it to the NHL. Time and time again, even when we don't give away our draft picks, the Islanders absolutely do have a problem getting those players to the NHL level. A simple reason for this may be, even though we do draft a young player with potential, while they spend time at the AHL level, are they getting the kind of coaching required to turn them into NHLers? Perhaps to help with the development of our draft picks, the organization should check if the minor league system is up for the challenge. If it's not, it's real simple. Change that program! Thanks again, Sir. Everyone, have a wonderful day! Looking forward to our next time together. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!

Spot on Tony. It is a question and definitely part of the problem. The organization needs to be better in this area. Thanks for the comment and LGI. Can't wait for the season.

Hi Gil! I hope all is well with you and your family! I travel in the summer so I’ve been a little out of touch but I strongly support your dedication and hard work Gil! I’ve said it for years. Look at Boston, Detroit in the past, Pens of the past, a few other annual contending teams for many years that did not draft high--their scouts were excellent. Up until recent years, we’ve wasted or traded top talent and drafted many busts. In recent years it’s been much better. Gil, the organization has lacked high end scouting and minor league coaching. It absolutely burns me what they did to Hp Sang, Ishikov and even Whally. Why Wally? Yea he’s had chances, he’s played with the best we could have offered him but some players need different things to get out the best of them. I’m not sure he had that here. In for 2/3 weeks and out for a while. We should have left him alone-I feel we trashed his confidence, that’s just my opinion. We suck at allowing young talent to develop and for what? We allowed our older players to commit mistake after mistake, penalty after penalty and the young kids could not go boo or they were out!! Roy won’t allow that to happen anymore but it’s too late because I feel we’ve ruined some young players confidence. We are doing it to Bolduc I feel. Let the kid play consistently!! He plays on eggshells I feel. I’m hoping with the recent draft picks we’ve made, and I feel pretty good players--they can be given a chance to develop and eventually play. Why and how? These older players have got to go! Time to say goodbye to this core. They had their run and next year it’s time to really bring in our youth!! Lee, Palmeri, JG have got to go!! Nelson? Love the guy but he will fetch us a very nice return to draft with. Trading Nelson is a pure must this deadline--don’t care where we stand. Ok Gil -lol--I’m done. Enjoy your day!! Never Say Die!! LGI!! Wish we could draft another Bret Lindros-that kid could have been so special--could play and fight!

There is definitely improvement needed in the way this organization develops prospects. As far as trading away some veterans to get younger, they should do some of it, especially if they aren't in contention this year. It wouldn't be a very Lou thing to do, but we'll see what happens. Ah, Brett Lindros, one of the great what ifs in Isles history. Thanks for the comment, Frankie. Always great to hear from you and LGI.

I really think holstrom comes out strong having roy is a major improvement especially since I felt the he came close to doing something last year

I hope so. Holmstrom faded at the end of the season last year so he needs to pick things back up. Thanks for the comment, Cory. LGI

Good 🌄, Gil, how are you? If Lou Lamoriello would give the players a chance to develop, instead of turning them into trade bait, they would have a chance to develop. Do The Islanders still have The Black Aces program? Also, Lou Lamoriello needs to handle The Salary Cap much better than he's doing right now. The young players are going to make mistakes, HOW ELSE ARE THEY GOING TO LEARN? Wherever Josh Bailey goes or retire, I wish him well. HAPPY 🎂 BRIAN "SPINNER" SPENCER. The fans ❤ him to death. He was a hustler on the 🧊. May he rest in peace 1949-1988. Before I go, I have to tell you, I was 👀 Game 1of The 81 Finals between The Islanders and The MN North Stars, and even though The North Stars had a team loaded with rookies, especially Dino Ciccarelli, the announcer made our Islanders sound like they were long in the tooth, that particular night, except for Butch Goring and Billy Smith, most of the guys, especially The Dynamic Duo,were in their 20's. You could say that it was a case of the young men against the boys. Hear from you later, Gil, and LET'S GO ISLANDERS.

Ah, the 1981 Cup Finals. The North Stars were a good team but the Isles were on a higher level. Yes, Lou needs to handle the cap better, but I'm not holding my breath. Thanks for the comment, Cindy, always good to hear from you. LGI.

That's because isles operate as if drafting/development don't exist and ignore it like the plague. Drafting/development is weak as evidenced by bottom tier system and draft picks only needed for trade fodder and to rid isles of bad deals. How many first, second, thirds has louzer dealt away in seven years as gm? That lessens the probability of drafting a player who may actually make nhl and have an impact. And ahl b'port reeks of no talent as well. All a reflection of louzer and his ahl coaches who can't develop average/mediocre prospects, most who will never see nhl thanks to louzer's penchant for keeping his old run it back roster secure every season. The guys louzer does draft are all wait and see reaches from europe or college. And louzer has no eye for talent as seen in his first round draft flubs 10 and 26 and can't manuever up or down the draft to hone in on talent with lack of picks.
The obvious solution would be a sell off starting with 29 and 21 to get draft ammo for future. But i wouldn't trust louzer or his scouts to cash in on those picks even if it did happen. Louzer did that in nj too. Took 'reaches' based on conte advise on draft day and hoped. Like i said before isles as structured have absolutely no grade A type prospects ready to push the old lugs for a roster spot who are comfy with their long term security. Coincedence or by design? Pathetic isles have only one prospect in top 130-the dropping talent that fell to them thanks to louzer keeping a first for once in eiserman. A guy who can score goals but has major ? marks as well. When will eiserman get to nhl and can he score goals when he does or will he forget how to score once drafted by isles like bellows and 26 did?
At least snow knew how to use the draft finding 27, 30 3, 24, 53 outside the first round and stole barzal first from oil-the core of this roster all snow picks. Snow had his first failures. At least the one first that has worked out for louzer, 8, was gifted to him thanks to snow's hamonic trade. Its pretty bad when fourth, fifth round picks are isles top prospects and outnumber actual firsts in prospect system ranking.

The Isles lack of prospects and their failure to develop the ones they have has been frustrating. If it's by design, it's a crappy way to run the franchise. I know Lou doesn't trust young players but wow, that's sabotage. Thanks for the comment, Steven.

Gil...NO! Josh Bailey was a bum! He had a small period where he produced but was always a liabikity on defense. He often didnt care and was a huge part of Isles problems and inconsistencies. That doesnt deserve a night. There is no scenario where retiring his jersey is a possibility or consideration. Why because he was there for long time, dueing some of worst times? I mean to people celebrate their marriages that ended in divorce that were miserable and long suffering, just because they went on for a long time? Do people celebrate and honor the great depression or the plague?

I don't think they should retire Bailey's number. Giving him a night with a pre-game video presentation and some kind of recognition for his service to the team I would be fine with. He came up big in some playoff series and had his moments with the team. As you said, he also had his struggles. Thanks for the comment, FREEDOMFUNADVENTURE. LGI
