Oh god. The more I watch clips of Moyles (out of grim fascination, like watching a car crash aftermath on the motorway) the ore I realise how poor an attempt at imitating Stern it is. Might as well be called Ersatz Stern. I mean there's a character called Comedy Dave. Erm, ring any bells? Jackie the Jokeman *ahem*!!!!????? He's not alone - Evans, Ross and others would probably admit in their most candid moments they've aped Stern wholesale. I think Russell Brand, the only only internationally successful enough to have appeared on Stern's show itself, has had the cajones to admit he has aped Stern. It's actually like it, just shorn of any edge, sophistication or talent. But the way he tries incorporate his staff and use their personal lives as rich fodder for the show...I mean, Stern was a genius - essentially playing the role of malevolent conductor - when it came to riling his staff members to actual anger, especially directed at each other. This was often even more fascinating to listen to than his legendary interviews with like Madonna or Snoop Dogg. Not enough time or space to list the merits and genius of the Stern show, but this very poor, ersatz version does itself a great disservice. The least Moyles can do is concede how indebted he is to the master of radio.
