    Love this cheap Chinese SIM gear. I got a VEVOR stand for wheel and pedals, and it is identical to the next level racing offering. You could even attach the full rig option from NLR.
    Was £55 instead of £200.

    Sequential shift option?. For those that use it. Nice review. It looks good for what it does. Nylon gate? Hmmm...If you use this shifter regularly maybe another review in a month or two? Epoxy the magnet? probably a good idea!

    Clever of him to put the "gear" part at the bottom (referring to the bearings/spring madoodler), that way it's more like throwing it in to gear. Wish I knew about this one before I payed more on the other USB shifter that is kinda garbage in comparison.

    I just got mine up and running today. It replaced a Logitech G27 shifter. While this SimJack feels much nicer, there is one big negative... The hall effect sensors have a slight delay registering the magnet and you REALLY have to slow down your shifting. It's very annoying right now, and I hope I can merely adjust to it with some seat time. You can see this delay when you pull up USB controller settings in Windows. I jumped into a Miata race at Laguna Seca and killed the trans within two laps from all my miss-shifts.
    I saw people suggest decreasing the clutch range (aka make it hit 100% when only

      Now much of a delay? I have one and I didn't notice any delay when I was playing AC with it. The only thing I dont like is getting into 6th gear. It felt weird...

    • @pko6547
      @pko6547 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@johnl2613I can't time it or anything but when you pull up the "usb game controllers" in Windows, you can see that the pressing the two buttons is instant while the gear selection takes a hair longer.
      I can drive OK when I'm just solo'ing but in a tight race, I end up miss-shifting a lot trying to be quick.

    • @coolestto
      @coolestto 7 месяцев назад

      @@johnl2613 mine just arrived today and 6th is a little weird for me too. Can't slot straight down into it from the wall of the reverse lockout, it's slightly further left. I also mis-shift back down to 4 from 5 instead of up into 6 pretty frequently trying to compensate for this. After a couple hours I got a lot more consistent with it but it is still kinda funky.
      I think that corner of the gate needs to be altered slightly to match the slot for 5th. 5th is also slightly further left than the wall, but the gate is heavily rounded to guide it in. The gate barely rounds the corner into 6th, instead it's rounded mostly into reverse and ends up trapping the shifter, which is super unnecessary because you shouldn't need extra guidance to get to reverse like you would for a fast upshift. You can see what I mean at 4:22, reverse and 6th are at the top left of the gate and 5th is at the bottom left. I plan to open it up and file that corner down in the near future, I'll let you know if it helps.
      And yeah, the hall effect sensors are a little laggy. I thought I was just being sloppy with my clutch but after you mention it it is pretty obvious. A stronger magnet might help? Might just be baked into the hardware though. The perils of buying cheap Chinese simracing hardware lol

    • @coolestto
      @coolestto 7 месяцев назад

      @@johnl2613 re: bad 6th, I opened it up and fixed the problem. First, I'm happy to report Sim Jack already came to the same conclusion as I did regarding the gate rounding between 6th and reverse, on my unit it guides into 6th rather than into R as shown in video 4:22. The actual source of the grinding and difficulty getting into 6th was a MOUNTING BOLT, the one in the back left specifically. I'm using longer bolts I bought separately to be able to mount through a 2x4 so I'm not sure if this will happen with the included bolts mounted to a proper rig or not, but the back left one was long enough to be in the shifter's path on the right edge of 6th. After removing this bolt the shifter feels great in all positions.
      As for the lag, my best idea right now is wire the sensors up to an Arduino and run it that way instead. There's no way the actual sensors should be this slow, I think it has to be a problem with the "brain" they're using for it. It's definitely not an issue of magnet strength, it's simply a delay - if I shift into and out of gear faster than it responds, it still does both, just delayed. Would be a pretty involved project though.

  • @yamyam60

    Hmmm not sure about the nylon gate's durability as I have the model with the top mounted aluminium gate and it is already pretty worn after a month of use. The problem is that unless you can easily find replacement gates, it would be rendered completely useless when it breaks. One of the common problems with these shifters is the magnet getting loose so it is advisable to apply epoxy where it meets the shaft, and this version having the magnet over the PCB, once loose it would slide down and destroy the hall effect sensors.

      I wouldn’t do project d. I have a metal gated shifter. It’s not smooth, and annoyingly loud because of the metal gates. The noise does bug you after awhile. Nothing wrong with the function per se. but still, had me searching for a better shifter that didn’t cost hundreds. I chose sim jack.
      Edit: plus the metal gates raises potential for missed shifts. I had plenty.

    I've seen this shifter before and it reminds me a lot of the Moza Shifter, there are a lot of similar shifters on the market right now, I believe Moza's might feel better since it has more "premium" guts, but it does look "cheaper" on the outside, a video comparison would be great!

      You should be fine with that shifter. If you spend more, you'll get a shifter with better build quality, but that won't improve the realism of sensation. It's not until you start looking at the shifters at £1000+, where things step up the realism.

      @@SimRacingCorner Oh wow really? Even things like the Simmagic and all? I am NOT looking to spend more money its just crazy. So until you get to things like the BDH and all with real machining. Gotcha. Thanks!

    • @SimRacingCorner
      @SimRacingCorner  6 месяцев назад

      The cheap AliExpress shifters have a very good tactile effect. It doesn't feel that much different to the Simagic. That's not to say there aren't other benefits of the Simagic shifter. The Simagic is a lot quieter, the tension is adjustable, reverse gear lockout, built-in sequential mode, smoother transitions between gears. And will last longer, as it's more robust. So it is a better bit of hardware. But If you want a more real mechanical chunky gearbox feel, then yeah, the BDH or BASH Pro level of hardware is where it's at.
