Josh should be the official singer of the US national anthem. Nobody can sing it as beautiful and perfectly as he did. His voice is clear, huge, powerful yet soothing and not straining or shrieking at all. Love the sound of his voice.

Found this while trying to see who would be singing it this year - Jan 9 2012 - when LSU will be there instead of Texas and the game will be in the city of my birth - New Orleans! I saw Josh in May in New Orleans which is where he started his tour and he is the total package! I wish he was singing this year! Geaux LSU Tigers!

Josh Groban and Flea together? That's something you don't see everyday.
I hated myself for missing this. Was in the bathroom...I mean you try going 4 quarters without using the bathroom because you're performing with the band. However, getting to meet him in person and getting a picture made up for everything. I mean, I love you Million Dollar Band but seeing our pregame for the 50 billionth time over meeting Josh, Josh will win out. Roll Tide! Beautiful performance as usual!

Perfectly and beautifully done,without unecessary , ego-driven riffs{Whitney being the exception} Adam Lambert also did it beautifully, respectfully with his professionally trained voice at a military venue during his stint on American Idol.
I am not American, but this is sung so beautifully and I appreciate the sentiment.

@FieryDeb I thought the same thing when the band chimed in. They messed it up. Josh did a good job not adding any trills or variations on the perfect melody that is our Anthem. In show bus. & music sometimes less is more.
it has nothing to do with that at all. josh groban hasnt let his voice rest for so many years and his vocals are so worn out thats why now when he sings songs like your raise me up he cant even hit those high notes like he use to with ease instead he forces himself to hit those high notes because he cant do those high notes like he use to and he has sang the anthem like 3 time before and he didnt sound nothing like he did here in this video. he sound so amazing with that powerful voice

After reading that this was a part of the top 10 worst anthem singing, I was a bit confused as to the reason why. After watching the video, I realized that it wasn't Mr. Groban who messed up. It was when the snare started playing is when the song started sounding messed up.

The band was PERFECT. FLEA with a marching band is disaster waiting to happen. Look up the Star Spangled Banner original composition by Francis Scott Key. He wrote it as a march! A song of victory, not a f****** ballad that most narcissistic vocalists (Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston-yes, they both were horrendous!) try to turn the nation's greatest song into.
A little more echo in the audio output would have made this perfect!

Ahh, the star spangled banner. A song so unbelievably difficult that not even josh groban (aka the voice of an angel) can sound good singing it.

I loved Groban singing this, but damn, couldn't they have given him a better orchestra? Either have him sing a capella or with a proper orchestra, not those terrible drum things
Comment: I'm surprised at the number of negative reactions here. It is an inventive version, and for that reason does carry some risks. New ideas do! There isn't anything particularly strange here, though. It moves along, everyone did a nice job.
There are a couple of questionable choices in the horn arrangement, but that's the breaks. It's just different. I guess Hendrix's rendition isn't so popular either.
My ears hate me for listening to this...
The band did not help the performance. It just added an element of immaturity. Josh was doing much better before the band began. Afterwards, he had to go to a certain beat, and it started to sound like a middle school band concert. It did not improve the quality of Josh Groban's crowd-attracting ability. I wish it had remained acapella the entire way through.
He should've just done it acapella...
