@@forwardprogressonly hi and thats great to hear! So I’m personally going into the cyberspace communications specialist role. For me I chose it because I’ve always been into computers since I can remember and I know cyberspace is quite a lucrative job once I come out. Have you got a trade in mind that you are potentially considering?
Hi Jake, you no doubt know this already but the amount of knowledge and advice over the last few months have been invaluable. Thanks to you I'v past my interview and I have a great and detailed idea of what the processes will be. Thank you so much. I have my medial in about a week and I'l be a reg gunner if all goes well. Videos like this are going to make my life so much easier, youre a king, also, congrats on the new born !!!!
@@dreadpirateroberts418 thank you so much! I’m glad you find them useful. We had a load of reg gunners on our intake (like 7 or 8) and the ifpt staff love to find out who the reg gunners are so a little tip, know the history of the regiment, what squadrons there are etc (its not assessed but they love to test you on this knowledge 😄 and their favourite thing is push ups if you get where I’m going) also they kept mentioning that phase 2 will be harder than phase 1? Defo don’t be afraid (especially in blue warrior) to take charge but lead with confidence as they give the IC (in command) role to the future gunners as it gives you some level of experience before heading to Honnington. Hope this helps further 🙂
Hey Jake :) thank you for all the helpful videos, I’ve finished my application for the RAF the other day I’m just waiting for my interview date, I can’t wait to start my basic training!
@@MonkeMac66 that’s great to hear only felt like yesterday when I was waiting for my interview and now I’m almost off to phase 2! So it goes quick and basic is defo its own challenge in itself but as long as you give it everything and don’t quit you’ll be fine. Do let us know how your interview goes.
Hi Jake I’ve currently been using my dad’s methord wich uses kiwi parade gloss but I’ve been somehow taking polish off when I bull.I’m loosing hope and looking desperately for a thing that can work for me. I’m in the air cadets and I’m a corporal so I do need my shoes to look good and I also want to join the RAF at 16 so can you help me please ??
@@Xander-h6f yeah I wouldn’t use parade gloss as it’s not reliable. Firstly, you have go find the way that works for you as there are many but the way I state it in the video is my personal way of doing it. I have guys on my phase 2 course that use heat to melt the wax on but I don’t use this method personally just good old decent polish brand and a selveyt cloth. My advice is try something else, try the way I do it to see if you find an improvement, just remember I’m not pushing too hard on the toe cap and only applying light pressure when bulling.
Hi does anyone know ow where i can get sapphire polish from a shop because if I’m honest I’m not very good at online shopping so does anyone know a company that sells sapphire polish in store?
@@WarThunderPlayer-s2x I think Timpsons might do it (I’m not sure) however, a lot of private shoe repair shops will have them (there is a shop near Halton who’s actually a RUclips as well and he sells it, can’t remember the name)
so per day, what should i be doing? ik you mentioned having 3 layers of polish on then walking around in them for a bit, but would i do 3 layers of brush each day or would i do say 9/12 layers per day then start bulling every day too?
@@pixiedust1383 yeah so the brush polish stage is all you do, you wouldn’t bull until all the brush layers are done then the next stage is bulling. It all depends on what your corporals think is best to do. For us we just brush polished until literally week 6 or 7 then they taught us bulling. On occasions you might have to go back to brush polishing if you don’t have enough layers on or the polish gets so damaged from wearing them it might be worth throwing 1 or 2 more brush layers on to patch it up then start bulling again. To be brutally honest the way I do it is effective for me personally you could (in theory) start bulling from the beginning but it’ll take much longer to do. Hope this helps.
@@JakeGchannel that’s a massive help thank you. I really appreciate these videos you’ve put out. I’ve just passed my interview and am going on to my medical next month. Your videos have made such a difference to my prep for going away and understanding of what to expect

Hi Jake, any chance you would be able to put links to where you bought your shoe polishes?? I’ve just got my start date for Halton and the kit list states 2x 100ml black polish and 2x 100ml dark tan would you recommend getting one kiwi and one saphir pate de luxe of each colour?
@@JowanHandford hi! I’ve just tried to post the link but it took up half the page for one 😄 but if you go on Amazon and type in ‘shoe polish’ scroll down and there should be an option for kiwi black 50ml tins pack of 3 for around £7.99, that should last you the entire 10 weeks. You can’t get 100ml tins anymore (as far as I know). For the dark tan it’s a bit more complicated to find a good deal but whatever comes up on Amazon is the best you are really going to get. I would get kiwi for this as well around 3-4 tins (depending on how much you like polishing) will be suffice but your boots get dirty so you might be able to get away with using the cheaper polish as you are not bulling the shine you are just making them clean and slightly shiny but it’s up to you I used kiwi. Also keep in mind you can order more polish later on so if money is an issue you could possibly get one tin and then wait till the first pay check then order more tins. For Saphir I only used the black as the dark tan is too expensive for what we are using it for. Again, just the standard black just type it in on Amazon and it’s roughly like £7-£8 around one tin will be fine for the 10 weeks but it depends when you start bulling for us we start on week 6/7 some start on week 3 or even earlier so it depends but I have 3 personally but I get a strange addiction to buying polish, don’t ask I have no idea why 😄 Hope this helps.
Thanks for your reply mate that helps a lot! So it doesn’t have to be 100ml tins then are they ok if you turn up with 50ml tins? I was unsure whether they had to specifically be 100ml for inspection or anything like that?? Also will I need to bring brasso with me do you know?
@@JowanHandford yeah they don’t check the tins amount so long as you have polish (my flight staff didn’t anyway I would be shocked if yours did) you can also say I have got 100ml as 2 50’s make 100. No for inspection they didn’t look at my polish tins only the boots and shoes themselves. I had one guy who brought like a dark mahogany instead of tan which made his boots go pinkish instead of cherry brown and he got away with it. Yes defo bring brasso that is what most people forgot on my intake I was the only one who brought it.
Hey Jake, hope RAF life is going well. I have a question, I'm currently in university with 2 years left and I wanted to apply for raf a year before I finish so I can go straight into my career when I finish uni, but this could mean that I could possibly get a start date for basic training but still have a few months left of uni. Eg if they give me a start date for may but I finish uni July can I get a delay on my basic training start date to be pushed back?
@@x40ghost it’s going great thanks 🙂 and to answer your question, in a nutshell, yes. Obviously I’m not a recruiter so keep that in mind but for me personally when my partner was still pregnant the recruiter offered to delay my basic until she was born, so I guess maybe in circumstances they will such as yours so I can’t see why they wouldn’t. Also, if you decide to go officer I believe the process is longer than my process so I would defo put my application in to mitigate the gap (potentially) between the end of your course and start of Halton or Cranwell.
If there is anything else you guys want then let me know and I might be able to make a video about it 🙂
