Started listening to Dr Peterson 9 years ago. He changed my life and helped turn it around. I lived a fun, free, and liberal life. One day I woke up and realized my life leads to nowhere. Despite my education and a career. Now I m a caregiver to my post stroke husband and experience great fulfillment.

wow, your life STILL leads to nowhere... you HAD education and a career, now you wipe your husbands' butt and chew his food for him....good job you! how is that filling you up with any will to live at all?...people like you scare me, because you think what you left behind is worse than where you are at now, and it's so much like actual hell i can't imagine doing any of that for you for one minute of any day. sounds like you're trying to convince yourself you actually have a good life. . Of all the hours I’ve spent listening to Eric interview people this is my favorite. Dr Peterson is brilliant. Eric is able to keep up with him and to ask for more of Dr Peterson than others. And Eric’s smile of real affection as he has to close out the podcast tells so much. Thank you Dr Peterson for all you do and Eric for bringing us this treasure. To God be the Glory.

Eric's smile near the end of the podcast seemed (to me) to be the point where he effectively demonstrated the inescapable truth that Jesus was who he said he was, and that all of Jordan's "practical approach" commentary, while being quite valuable by itself, is ultimately validated by more than a great story which is merely "a definition of truth." It's more than that.

I needed to hear this. Thank you, Dr. Peterson. I lost a part of my faith after losing my job. Then i lost my government funding after losing my job. Ive been miserable for 2 months feeling sorry for myself, and my family has had to pick up the pieces. Ive been bitter because I was the victim of someone elses lies and they were rewarded. I need to get my ass back out there and figure it out.

@@Neo2awake - Hopefully, with age comes wisdom and the maturity to discern between over-complicating things which don't require it and the opposite, growing a backbone to keep on keeping on with complexity when the crowd ( including friends and family ) criticize you of paralysis-by-analysis, and to basically be oneself. I've been consistently judged by those who don't want to make the effort for deeper reflection over serious topics as anything from being stubborn to being over-thinky to being a pain in the ___ because I questioned or disagreed with opinions on such deeper topics. A kernel of truth in some of the criticism, for sure, but what are we looking for, anyway? A perfect human example of proper time and energy and thought and articulation?
Personally, Jordan has been one of the most refreshing thinkers / teachers on psychology, politics, and, yes, religion! In fact, I've told my fellow Christian friends that he's been a kind of surrogate pastor for me, and to his credit he's opened up new understanding for me of the Bible that I can't recall ever happening in any church setting. ( He comes at it with an appreciation for the angles of philosophy and psychology and mythology which are quite edifying and intellectually stimulating. And, yes, his longer stream-of-consciousness sermons and brainstorming sessions on his channel with a fascinating array of guests are trying...for some. Not me! I do the EXACT SAME THING with friends when in deeper, probing conversations of theology, spirituality, politics, psychology, art. So, guess you can say that I don't have much of a problem when he does it. He's far more well read and expands my mind and soul often. ) BTW: There have been times where I strongly disagreed with him and thought he was just off. So what. I/We ought to not look to any human being for what can only be found in God, anyway. On that note: Thank God for the mission / calling that Jordan is on in serving some of America's / Canada's / The West's needs ( well, the East's, too ) in a vital way at a crucial time.

Honestly, and hopefully this isn't widely true, I'm hoping that Christians aren't prideful nor envious of Jordan's intellect in his Search for Meaning and Truth. Not making this up, there have been times where my education / level of intelligence threatened fellow Christians somehow ( not that I have used it as some kind of leverage or tool of pride against others ) and they were resentful, mean-spirited, out of nowhere. When people are impatient or even judgmental towards Jordan for not answering all of their questions as to his converting to Christianity or not ( which is actually none of their business to know his private beliefs ), it comes off as more of a bad look for those Christians, IMO. Not saying people cannot attempt to inquire in conversations, probe his mind and heart, but be humble as to how Jordan's search might not be in any way similar to one's own journey of conversion. Show him the kind of love and respect that one would want for oneself. Cast off any pride and envy. ( Again, not saying probing questions can't or shouldn't be asked. Don't impose where the Spirit is not leading to do so. Discern well. )

Seemingly arbitrary tragedy / suffering is a strange thing. On one hand it will test and sometimes take the faith of those who previously had it. It will raise doubts, people will struggle and question, some may even give up. On the other hand it is the most consistent primary parent of faith to those who were previously without it. A lot will emerge out of such a hell as unrecognizable, their old selves gone, now replaced by people whose faith is unbreakable.
Now for what it's worth, perhaps consider looking into near death experiences and the such. The most common phenomenon shared by people who went through temporary clinical death is some sort of out of body existence. They float near or above their own bodies in awareness and can see their environment, sometimes even move around. This may imply that our consciousness is more than just brain activity. It implies that there is some other part of us, let's say a soul, which is tied to the body but which will also continue to exist after the body stops functioning. So who knows. Maybe your father is watching over you, and maybe you will be granted the ability to reunite with him on the day of judgement.

Good for you for continuing to walk. I'm no expert but I firmly believe that we are not promised we will be spared suffering, regardless of how much we believe. We ARE assured that Jesus is with us IN and through the pain. And that if we remain open, we will not only be able to endure but will find God in the walk through the fire, through the pain. It's paradoxical but everything worth knowing is.

I don’t see him filtering. I see two modes of thought validating each other. Two witnesses validating a single truth.
If he was filtering, he would need to discard certain ideas, but as it stands I have not witnessed him discarding with any ideas from the Bible. Quite the contrary, I see Christian’s often discarding some ideas while weaponizing others for their moral and intellectual superiority in relation to Peterson.

I would argue that the way he interprets the Bible is not completely his personal view which he has stated, but rather a scientific view that bypasses the confusion that is created by most modern religious institutions and reaches an audience that is searching for answers that Peterson provides. The understanding that he provides builds the groundwork for people to find their own path to God. The people who object to his way of teaching are not the people he is trying to reach. If you are unable to see the good provided and feel the need to "correct" something then most likely your worldview was shattered by something you aren't willing to let go.

It will leave you with a profound notion of what faith looks like, it was hard to keep reading the book when you know how it’s going to end. Maybe because I am a mother and have a son, I sobbed starting around page 5 or 6…but I pushed thru. I was astounded by Bonhoeffer’s parents religious faith also. If I was his mother, I would have kidnapped him until the war was over, I am still traumatized by that story. Bravo! Mr Metaxas!!
Peterson calls his new tour, " Those who wrestle with God" However, when Jacob wrestled with God, he already knew God personally. My belief is that is exactly how he had the boldness to dare to wrestle with Him in the first place. He knew God, and had great belief and trust to know that he could (even) have the audacity to say,
"I won't let you go until you bless me".
Jacob's name, (Identily), was changed through the encounter, from Jacob, (deciever), to Israel, (He will rule as God" in Hebrew.

I applaud Eric for trying to get him there. When Eric pointed out that God is a person, that we can know Him, that others like Moses have known Him on a personal level I was hoping it would break JP out of his whole conceptual idea mode. For many years the simplicity of what it took to become a Christian always got in my way. It made no sense to my human logic. I knew I was guilty of many sins, not just actions but thought & words; all of which I could never take back. I knew there was no balancing the scales of eternal justice. It made no sense to me that God sent Jesus to die in my place; that by choosing to repent & accept by faith that I needed Him as my Savior & Lord I could be saved, delivered , transformed. Once I did I was convinced. I hope & pray that JP & others like him do the same.

I have heard, numerous times, Dr.Peterson talk about the meaning of Job’s story being, it’s never beneficial to lose faith. I agree, that is an important part of the story but it’s not the ultimate point. I believe, in the story of Job, God was using Satan to show Job how valuable Job’s relationship with God is. Ultimately, Job learned that his relationship with God is the only thing that is really within his or our power to control. God himself is bound by his own law or truth when we conduct ourselves as Job did, with absolute loyalty to God, in spite of the circumstances at hand. Job was given the opportunity by God, to learn that he could command Gods loyalty through absolute loyalty to God. If we allow ourselves to know God as Job did, we will learn, God can restore, correct, etc. any physical circumstance or condition but He can’t rob us of our agency to choose this, that, evil or Him. Job believed and came to know, his loyalty to God would eventually right all the loss and wrongs, he could possibly experience. The knowledge that We have the power to bind ourselves to a perfect God, can do away with the fears of any mortal consequence.

See “Knowing with the Heart” by Roy Clouser (from the amazon blurb) “The famous scientist and philosopher Blaise Pascal memorably said that “the heart has its reasons the mind will never know”. But too often it's forgotten that Pascal, in referring to the heart's “reasons”, was not talking about hunches or cozy feelings. Instead he had in mind our intuitive knowledge of “the first principles of number, time, space, and motion”. And he believed God can be known in the same way, so that belief in God has the same justification as scientific and mathematical principles. Was he right? In Knowing with the Heart, Roy Clouser develops a broad, compelling case for Pascal's position....”.

This is certainly one of my favorite all time vids out of anyone who has interviewed Peterson to date, because of the abundance of biblical knowledge of the interviewer & because of the depth of biblical insight from the interviewee. Unfortunately, we the church think way to literally in modern terms because of the era we are raised in, but Peterson refuses to indulge any of that nonsense of the materialistic world that we grew up in when people press on him to define transcendent concepts like God & the spiritual realm.
Peterson thinks of demons in a more pragmatic way. And his way of thinking about such things prevents us from escaping the moral & spiritual implications of these concepts. Thinking of demons in more literal or tangible terms allows our minds to see them as boogiemen rather than the immoral dragons they are who long to posses & destroy souls.
We as the church ought to be ashamed for adopting the modern area’s perception of materialism in relation to defining such concepts & Peterson is a breath of fresh air that helps believers escape the boxes of modern thinking & understand, believe & live in a more timeless & historic - even an eternal way. This is exactly what the Bible is proposing from cover to cover.
It’s all over the gospels as well, as Jesus never answers anyone’s questions directly, but rather answers everyone in ways that are more true than what serves as the basis of their questions in the first place.
It is the nature of all mankind to think inside the box, but Christ, God & scripture always challenge us to think outside the box as a way of growing up into what God has intended for us from before time began.

I've seen several comments criticize Jordan Peterson's approach to the scriptures but I don't agree. Dr. Peterson provides an important perspective and just reflects his focus, which is psychology. As someone who grew up in church and became committed to the truth of God's word and Jesus as an adult, I can say that he takes God more seriously than most people in the pews. He certainly studies the Bible more than most. People herald C.S. Lewis because he made Christianity intellectually appealing. But it can only be so because it is already true. Dr. Peterson likewise adds a meta layer to the Bible and states the obvious--that there are recognizable story arcs and that we do operate more in narrative than in disparate, atomized facts. But God is in the story of our lives, but He is also the source of logic and reason, goodness and self-sacrifice. It makes the Bible more true to me because it resolves issues on every level of our being. The God of the Bible is psychologically, intellectually, spiritually true. He is all in all. As for Dr. Peterson's equivocation about demons, a lot of Christians don't actually believe in demons. They believe in the heaven part, but not necessarily hell or negative forces. I know spiritual warfare is real and is on the rise in our witchcraft-loving world, but if that's the criticism, he again is not too different from a lot of purported believers.
I think it's uncomfortable for believers to think someone doesn't believe "spiritually" or speak in spiritual language, but what is faith except acting out what you've accepted as true? That's what Dr. Peterson does every day and encourages others to do. I agree with another comment that he's dusted off the Bible for a new generation of people who thought it was irrelevant and archaic when it's completely the opposite. The word of God is alive and active and sharper than any two-edged sword. If the only thing that remains for Dr. Peterson is to confess Jesus as Lord and believe he was raised from the dead, I can certainly pray for that but I think he's well on his way.

Whether an action is "Good" is entirely relative to the desired objective / goal one is trying to achieve, the specific situation our levels of information and understanding and the range of posible alternative actions and outcomes available. Whilst "God" is also a man made concept, the percieved whims of your "God" do not reflect these shared values and thus are irrelevant in any discussion of morality.

Jordan agrees with atheists that Biblical epistemology is grounded strictly in mythos (per his debates with Sam Harris 6 years ago), but he parts company with them as he asserts that because this very same Biblical epistemology speaks to transcendence, this has imparted evolutionary adaptations that have encouraged our species' survival.
He's religious-friendly because he's a Jungian pantheist at heart and endorses a history of religion perspective like that of a Mircea Eliade. That's the key to understanding Jordan's analysis of Christian theology evidenced by this discussion with Eric and why some falsely accuse him of using word salads.

Wrestling w God in this context involves a chosen one as the only one who can wrestle with God. I love Peterson, but he has not surrendered his sinful heart to the Savior that has shed His blood for this purpose

Some people say that they are surrendered to Christ, but refuse to acknowledge the truth about themselves. Still hiding from that truth, and covering it up by judging others.
Meanwhile others may not proclaim to be “surrendered” in the sense that you expect, but genuinely acknowledge their faults and weaknesses, and pursue truth which burns those faults away, despite the pain.
And which is justified before God?

Well done Eric, I think this was the best interview you have ever done. I wonder if Jordan was disturbed by the presence of the Holy Spirit. Your facial expressions, your poise and forbearance, clearly He was there. Jordan please surrender to Jesus. He is THE way THE truth and THE life, He really and truly is.

To your points on identity, a wise and inspired man said:
“I believe that if the Lord were speaking to you directly, the first thing He would make sure you understand is your true identity. My dear friends, you are literally spirit children of God.”
"...no identifier should displace, replace or take priority over these three enduring designations..."
"...doing so could stymie your progress or pigeonhole you in a stereotype that could potentially thwart your eternal progression..."
"other labels...will ultimately let you down” ... “because they do not have the power to lead you toward eternal life in the celestial kingdom of God.”

    Good evening Eric and Jordan
So much of life's bumps has and continues to test. Simply don't have the words right now, hard work. However thankful for Jordan, he has for many years now helped me nudge my spirit in the right direction. Story short.
And if I had a bucket list, an extra long conversation with Jordan would be on it, for sure.😀
    Truly grateful to you both.
