I put all my photos in Affinity Photo (like Photoshop) and make them greyscale, then play with the contrast, brightness, and greys. I was a Navy Photographer, black and white is my specialty. I was a master in the darkroom. Yeah, I tooted my own horn :)
I was cruising through Facebook a few years ago and saw one of my cigar art photos that I never remembered posting. So I looked who posted it and it was a major cigar magazine. I was little upset because they didn't pay me for it. I emailed them and they still didn't pay for it. But at least they credited the photo to me. That doesn't pay bills though. That photo is only for sale on an art website. Which means they stole it from there.

I learned about not placing the image in the word file the hard way. Since I didn't have a size that was best when I reformatted my books, I had to go back through every book, create the correct size for all of them. Now, placeholders are added.

So valuable! Answered a lot of questions/ideas. Another writer informed me that photos prior to 1930 are not copywriter protected. I plan to verify this, but if it’s true, it could possibly benefit a lot of us. Love the idea of skipping photos in the book, but placing them in our website, online course, e-book, etc, as an additional perk to those outlets. Thanks as always!

@@BookLaunchers I believe you are correct. Images created before 1926 are typically considered to be in the public domain and no longer protected by copyright. This means that anyone can use, copy, or modify these images without permission or payment.
For images created after 1926, the copyright term may be different depending on a number of factors, such as the date of creation, whether the image was published, and whether the copyright was registered. In general, the length of the copyright term is determined by the life of the creator plus a certain number of years after their death, or a fixed term of years from the date of creation or publication for images after 1926.
I looked into this as I purchased over 3300 antique images on glass slides that were decommissioned from a museum. I wanted to be sure I could use them!

    1. Regarding the inclusion of self-made images, such as timelines, graphs, charts, and other graphics, are there any specific guidelines or recommendations that I should follow to optimize their effectiveness and seamlessly incorporate them into my work?
    2. Additionally, do you have any insights or suggestions on how to effectively balance the integration of imagery with textual content to ensure that the images do not overpower or detract from the overall message and purpose of the material?
