What is my book about? Why should the reader read it? It all goes back to who is the book for and what benefit they'll get from read it! I loved the analogy of when a buyer looks at a house...how solid is the foundation, what are my arguments, what is my supporting evidence, what makes my perspective unique.
You're welcome. Happy Friday! Thanks for being a part of the #noboringbooks community and commenting the day a video is released. You’ve been entered to win our bi-weekly draw for some sweet swag. Just so everyone knows, content editing is sooooo important! It took my book from good to amazing!! I was so pleased with the restructures that were suggested.
We have hired two content editors now that were journalists. We find them to be excellent at understanding what hooks readers as well as spotting weaknesses in a story. It's a really powerful combination that a lot of trained editors actually miss.
Kelly Ragan helped me to ask the basic question, "What is this book about?" After all, how important is that??? I also love the idea of seeking my book like a house being built. Thanks for having Kelly on the screen for our benefit.

Kelly was the content editor for my book. It felt kind of brutal at the time (love the shark analogy LOL), but my book is SOOOO much better because of her. So nice to see her come out from behind the scenes, from a name on the side panel of my Word document, to an actual real person. Definitely do more of these "team" profiles - what a great idea!
Thank you. That's wonderful feedback. Not everyone on the team is willing to be a RUclips star but I am slowly coaxing more of them out to showcase their brilliance. I tell them if they don't I'll take all the credit. ;)

Wow. Very interesting stuff for sure. I admit right up front that I am not a writer, but I do have a story to tell, so as I write (22,000 words in), I am groping my way in the dark to understand where I am going and am I heading in the right direction. From this video, I am quite sure I am on the right track. My book identifies what my book is about and who it is for -my very specific target audience. Plus, I an an 'expert' on my topic with my first-hand experience, and I clearly identify that, plus my book has Kelly's cringe worthy hypothetical scenario to keep the readers engaged. Thank you SO much for this.

Great video. I enjoyed the analogy about the house and building a good foundation. I am still working on answer the important what is this book about, because even when I think that I am confident about the answer, the moment I am asked that question I become so nervous I have no idea how to answer it. Have a safe trip.
This makes a great deal of sense - particularly with a transformational memoir style. I've discovered it's incredibly difficult to take something you've lived and break it into chapters including hooks lol
It is really hard. Most people write a memoir in chronological order but it needs to follow a story arch which isn't the same! Good luck! Happy Friday! @@BookLaunchers you've piqued my curiosity, how are you managing the quarantine going back and forth? I desperately want to visit my family but that pesky quarantine makes it near impossible (apologies this isn't overtly book related, but it does actually have an impact on my book lol)
