Found your video a few weeks ago as I have been trying to understand Evernote. I've been using the GTD method for a couple of years now and it all suddenly made sense. Thanks for such a well made, clear video. Pure gold for me. Cheers
I've been using evernote for several years but I'm new to GTD. Spent this past weekend researching techniques and reorganizing my notebooks (100 notebooks and over 1000 notes) into a better hierarchy of stacks, naming conventions, etc. Then I started getting confused about how to process the inbox, actions, projects, etc. Your video was PERFECT for where I am in my restructuring and GTD methodology. The use of TAGS and SAVED SEARCHES totally saved my day. Yours is the first I saw that explained how to get to zero inbox. I also hadn't created a separate note for each little task I need to take, but rather have kept several unwieldy TO DO lists. Your system of making a note for each outstanding task works perfectly. Thank you for all the help.
Excellent! Thank-you. I have gotten so "lost" in so many renditions of EN and GTD. Yours is simple (as in "not complicated")-although-complex, straight-forward, and intuitive for my brain! Setting mine up now. M
Of all the videos on the similar topic, I like yours the best. It is to the point, at right pace, thorough, and without any off topic chit chat. I can never thank you enough for sharing this video. I am going to implement my GTD exactly your way.
Just wanted to say thank you for making this, your ides and process are expressed clearly and this has been a major help on integrating the GTD methodology to my life .
Not the most visually stimulating video, but boy is it a goldmine content wise! Thanks for this walkthrough! Best one I've seen out of the 50+ vids I've sifted through the past couple of weeks.
Thanks for taking the time to produce this tutorial. I struggle to stay on top of my email inbox and tried to implement The Secret Weapon a few years ago. I found myself doing more management of tasks than focusing on the tasks, so I gave up. This year I want to re-engage GTD + Evernote. Your system seems to be more functional ie. Less work than TSW. I appreciate you sharing this.
One problem with this system is the tag hierarchy. It only works on the desktop client. This is a long standing problem with Evernote. An often used suggestion is to sort using a short key. For example, create tags for WHAT like this: wha.work, wha.home tags for WHO would be who.spouse, who.john etc. As soon as you type the 3 letter key and period, the list will come up and this should work on any platform. One other reason this might be better than a hierarchy is if you accidentally delete a top level tag, all sub tags get deleted. The downsides are you have longer tags and you can't collapse them on the desktop which keeps things clean.
thanks for publishing! One piece I had trouble with was the syntax for the saved search, "reminders due today" the one shown wasn't working for me, but if anyone needs it, I found this to work for me on Windows: reminderTime:day -reminderTime:day+1
Thanks for this video. I had been using a more cumbersome approach to GTD with Evernote. Your suggestion to use Saved Searches makes a lot of sense. i use the desktop PC version of Evernote for processing .
Thanks for great video and love the use of tags in your system. It does clean up the interface closing all the other tabs other than Saved Searches. However, when selecting one of the Saved Searches it opens the menu list back up again highlighting the Notebook searched. Is there a way to only see the notes search for yet keeping the menu list closed and on Saved Searches. Seem to defeat purpose if after each search the menu list needs to be closed up again. Maybe I missed something, thanks again!
Would you consider offering consulting services / training for GTD and evernote setup? Maybe through upwork or similar freelancer site? I would be interested in contracting you if so. Would not be too time intensive. I am particularly interested in how you deal with big projects. Thank you for the videos regardless.
This is solid gold! I've prob watched this video 4-5 times. How is your life going? Still sticking with GTD, any new evernote features that have come out that make this easier?

Dear sir, I will be very very appreciated if you show us a little bit more examples for especially "4-Tickler" Tag, and for the notes that has a dead line with a reminder. I must say that, this video is one of a life changer for me. Thanks a lot :) Regards.
Looks like it takes more effort than GTD based on meister task in video that you prepared before. What is the advantage personally for you to use Evernote instead of meistertask for GTD?
Yes, it absolutely does. What I've found is that there are folks who are really searching for the 'holy grail'. They want one application that can handle every component of their GTD setup. For those folks, I do feel that Evernote is a viable option. Other applications such as MeisterTask are fantastic for handling GTD actions and projects. Much better than Evernote can ever be. But they don't provide a good solution for storing reference material. So for most people, a GTD solution using an app like MeisterTask would require a second application to handle reference material. It is a matter of personal preference. Some people are comfortable combining multiple applications for their GTD solution, others only want one application for everything. Both routes have positives and negatives to be sure.
Yes, I got the same feelings about reference material, so I started to use your approach + using "send email" automation, in field "To:" I am using address for my OneNote account. From another side my reference material is almost always getting into OneNote directly from browser on my computer, iPad or smartphone. Will try to live with two tools same time, I hope here is nothing wrong or against GTD approach.
I definitely know others who choose OneNote for reference material and another tool for managing their tasks and projects. I have bounced between using one tool (such as Evernote) and using multiple tools (such as MeisterTask + Evernote) on more than one occasion to try and find something that resonates best with me and that helps me be the most productive. It would be very interesting to see the percentage of one tool people versus multiple tool people who are fully invested into GTD. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if it was split right down the middle.

Possibly the best GTD tutorial/explanation out there. Thank you!

A great way to set up a GTD app. But also great for helping someone to understand better how Evernote works. Thanks

Thx for video! Is this tagging system with the basic version? Like tag set-up; how would we replicate it..any info on your initial set-up? Thanks
Are you available to hire for personal consulting work? Thanks!
It seems that for copying Project Item to action list you are using some code. Am I right?

Try to first write what you want to search in search box and maybe the option will be shown. (mac user)
