  • In the second episode of "Geopolitics with Alex", Fabrizio Tassinari answers Alex’ questions about the geopolitical consequences of Giorgia Meloni’s victory in the Italian elections.
What changes can we expect with respect to Mario Draghi’s government on the European Union, the Ukraine war and relationships with the United States and China?
“Geopolitics with Alex” is a sequel to "Understanding the War" which ran from March to July 2022.

As an American I enjoy listening to you unpack issues, events, and relations among EU NATO members. I am puzzled by the unrest in Hungary and sprouting friendship with Russia, plus the confusing relationship of Erdogan with NATO and with Putin. Will they retain membership in EU NATO? Would you care to make a video about those questions. Also, will EU NATO permit Erdogan to block Finland & Sweden, or unduly slow down their ratification for full NATO membership? Is there a work-around mechanism for such situations? Many thanks…

Which brings me back to your sentence: _"In hard times people crave strength and fear nuace. They vote away from the centre"_
People are tribal and seek simple solutions to complex problems.. blaming economic stress on 'others' is the easy and knee-jerk reaction they chose. Always. And power hungry demagogues abuse this for their own goals = nationalism. 😕
_(its the main reason for why ancient philosophers and US founders were strictly opposed to 'pure' democracy = mob rule)_
_"Many of these are inevitable cycles within our modern arbitrage financial system, unfortunately."_
I've been studying this complex for the last 15 years and I have to tell you, no, this ain't the cause of this. Honestly.
You want to know what is?
Our human nature (being selfish to different degrees, most extreme being narcissist, psychopaths, sociopaths) and the requirement of our societies to have a benevolent monopoly force (made up of us humans) to violently punish any selfish individual opportunist or group thereof that breaks societal rules. But who says that this monopoly force entity can't also enforce a couple rules that benefit a few at the cost of the rest?
And guess what.. It does! 😲
Don't take my word for it, here is someone from 250 years ago on one of those phenomena (there is more like this, much more):
_"The interest of the dealers [referring to stock owners, manufacturers, and merchants.. anyone really], however, in any particular branch of trade or manufacture, is always in some respects different from, and even opposite to, that of the public. To widen the market and to narrow the competition, is always the interest of the dealers. To widen the market may frequently be agreeable enough to the interest of the public; but to narrow the competition must always be against it, and can serve only to enable the dealers, by raising their profits above what they naturally would be, to levy, for their own benefit, an absurd tax upon the rest of their fellow-citizens."_
      &
_"The proposal of any new law or regulation of commerce which comes from this order, ought always to be listened to with great precaution, and ought never to be adopted till after having been long and carefully examined, not only with the most scrupulous, but with the most suspicious attention. It comes from an order of men, whose interest is never exactly the same with that of the public, who have generally an interest to deceive and even to oppress the public, and who accordingly have, upon many occasions, both deceived and oppressed it."_ Adam Smith
I don't have quotes yet from ancient Rome or Greece, but I know about a story in one of the Greek wars were some opportunists got found out for scamming the state by claiming the loss of valuable trade ships for supplying war goods while deliberately scuttling old ships with scraps on them. Ruthless greedy selfishness has been alive and well since we formed societies.. couple that with the monopoly force (which over the last couple centuries got checks&balances added) and you can see how rich & poor come to be.
It's not our modern arbitrage financial systems that cause this.. it's us and how we organize our societies.
Now tell me if this makes sense and further if you've ever heard any mainstream sociologist or economist talk about this?!
      Cause I haven't.😡

And if their government takes a hard line stance with immigration as they should that will have immediate benefits. read Douglas Murray's The Strange Death of Europe. You and Your friends may not understand the threat. If no one stands up for the Europeans States and Cultures soon there will not be any. That may not be important to some people but they will have everlasting regret if Europe becomes overrun with alien cultures. That is what is happening in Italy. I applaud the Italian people for standing up for their identity which is being erased by some insane world citizen leftist ideology.

Meloni is in coalition with Berlusconi and Salvini, reknewed clowns in the entertainment industry, there is no way she can do something meaningful

This is the last chance for Forza Italia to survive politically and the last chance for Salvini to do something meaningful in his mediocre political career, because very soon he will loose the control of his political party, The League. If they will shut down this executive, they will both disappear.... instead this won't happen for Giorgia Meloni. The question is if Meloni will be a right wing populist, a sort of chauvinist democristiana, protecting municipals public companies and utilities owned by the government and increasing massive keynesian policies that led us nowdays to this disaster..... or a real statist, that will fight the public debt.... so she has to choose.
