  • Its fun to set yourself little challenges and this week I set myself up with a cracker! I gave myself around 100' of river and resolved to catch three different species of fish. Check out the video to see how I got on. Fly fishing should be fun so get out there and enjoy yourself!
    Let me know what challenges you like to set yourself whilst out fly fishing in the comments section below.

    I do this as often as I can. One of my frequent challenges is to get my fishing pals to fish a section of water ahead of me and I ask them to disturb it as much as possible but not unreasonably. Walkthrough a hole or run even kick up some bottom here and there. Then I like to come in behind them and try to catch more fish or as many as they caught....but more is better. I like these little challenges. This would be done on a freestone stream which is the most common in our region.

      Sounds like a great challenge! Most of the guys I fish with would take every fish though......lol.

    Thanks lindsay it was great to see you challenge yourself . I try to do it at my local Fishery as they have the same three fish in water but the roach are just to tricky . As they have seen so many flies over the years carp also in it I hooked one managed to get to move eight feet and it snapped me . At first I thought I had hooked Scotland as it didn't move for 3 or 4 minutes but I got told of the owner he thinks it was a 20 pounder that been in for years as he was my witness to the catch bummer my leader snapped.

    Another Great video Sir. Would be interested if you Could try the 10ft #3s on a small still water to see if the can cast far enough or cast further than a river situation and handle the fishing. With dies n nymphs.🤔 PS roach?

    • @lindsayiflyfish
      @lindsayiflyfish  3 года назад

      Not ideal on the Stillwaters I fish as the trout are generally 2lb + and it would take a lot of time to play the fish to the net. I practice catch and release and it would not be fair on the fish going so light.

    The mystery fish was a pure roach. Fit fin perfect with zero sign of being a hybrid. They can cross with rudd which are smaller with a slightly different mouth and their dorsal fin is also in slightly different position on its back. Personally I love the challenge of tempting coarse fish to the fly. Crucian carp are great fun on a dry or nymph. I know of one pond that you can even catch released goldfish as well as coarse fish

    • @lindsayiflyfish
      @lindsayiflyfish  3 года назад

      Not tried for Carp yet was going to go this year but time got the better of me.

    • @michaelshaw8370

      @@lindsayiflyfish I almost see using any form of bait as cheating. Now to tempt a fish into taking a fly be it representing a food item or initiating an attack reaction. Is soo more satisfying. Especially when that is a fish not usually targeted with a fly. Two examples. One Fishing the river Idle targeting small coarse fish gudgeon, bullheads ect with sub size twenty flies. While landing a bullhead minnow a brown trout hit the bullhead. Two On a estuary a weighted nymph is a good tactic for flounder plaice dabs. Or even large rock pools can give fun surprises

    Great video very interesting and well done! Was hoping to ask a bit advise? I want to start trying my own flies can you recommend a kit or are you better buying the equipment separately. If so where would you recommend going? thanks!

    • @lindsayiflyfish
      @lindsayiflyfish  3 года назад

      Hi Steven, if you just want to dip your toe in so to speak a cheap kit is what you want. If you intend to get serious about fly tying then a decent vice and slowly build up you materials would be my advice.
