This review reminds me of a minivan. Those are big and good at carrying passengers and have lots of cup holders and screens. I would purchase a Honda Odyssey instead of this. For the money of a High Country, if I really wanted an SUV, a Lincoln Navigator.
Really appreciate the way you deliver. Nice and calm speaking manner. Not like others yelling and screaming style bs. As of the car: it's cool. Hopefully it's reliable, but time will show.
Im sure it wont be unfortunately. Active fuel management already screwed with the long term durability of gm's engines, and that tech only just got more complex. Not even to mention the dozens of little electric motors in absolutely everything.
I got this as a rental and it has been surprisingly easy to drive for a vehicle so large that barely fits in a parking spot. The rear camera is amazing because it make it feel like you’re parking a civic.
9:51 I wish the second row could slide all the way back to the seat cushions of the third row for the 99 %of the time that we don't need the third row. Would make the second row way more luxurious on long trips.
If you get the Suburban or Tahoe, it appears that the 3 rd row has the same space. If they made the 3 row slide back, you could utilize the extra 3 foot of area behind the 3 rd row. They even make a aftermarket 4 row seat for older Suburban. If the manufacturer would make the 3rd row to recline just a little the 3rd row could be utilized by adults!
I can confirm this is true, drove one and had to pass messages back to guys in the back through the guys in the second row when the radio was on...needs an intercom 😂
Josh Anderson Jim is wrong. I have wireless Carplay but not wireless charging. I have a wireless charger but did not plug it in because I don't like my phone overheating.
@KL Phew.... Thank you. I would want those two features to work independent of each other. I’ve got CarPlay, but it’s wired. I’m looking forward to what wireless feels like.
I dunno what people see in Carplay and Android Auto...obnoxious distracting messes that are there for tech companies to data mine you. I've tried and I really, really, really don't get the appeal...I use my phone for nav in the car sometimes, just by itself, and that's so much better than messing with the app and the connection. Put music on a data card and get higher quality than streaming that doesn't use mobile data...so much smarter. Android Auto and Apple Carplay SUCK!
M C You can listen/watch RUclips on your phone and have your Google Maps on your car at the same time. You can keep your phone in your pocket, hit the mic button and say, "play workout playlist" and it will pull up and play my iTunes workout playlist.
Jack Benton let me tell you something. My dad has a 04 Chevy suburban and it’s still running grate. The column shifter have been in the suburban, (I can tell you just found out about suburbans) for years that could have stayed.even my dad says he’d go with the last gen then this one. this one with no column shifter is a BIG turn off they lost a lot of buyers go doing this.
Moses W I doubt they’ve lost a mass amount of buyers over a shifter. The average person buying these will adapt. Carlos even said this in the review. It’s still intuitive, you have to pull on the reverse and drive buttons - you’ll never accidentally go into gear this way. I’ve already seen a handful of new Tahoe’s and Yukon’s out and about. I think I’ll be seeing plenty more.
Love it!!! my 2014 Escalade has been 100% trouble free.. thinking about Suburban just because I don't need the whistles of the new Escalade... 6.2 Suburban here we come!!
Is variable displacement still standard? If so, has GM FIXED IT? The 5.3L with it is notorious for lifter failure. Buyers should buy an extended powertrain warranty. Expedition please. 🔥🔥🔥
I remember Carlos doing his thing on Motor Trend, with every type of sports/exotic car possible. Now here he is doing a review of a family mobile. Our man has evolved. (ok,ok, Carlos will still drive the heck out of a Supra or a Super Stock Challenger)
I wish a more common, high volume trim was reviewed. This starts around 54k, I’m not sure about the practicality of reviewing this particular trim at around 81k.
With GM pricing them at $80,000, I think it’s clear they know the volume of sales for these in the future won’t be anywhere close to previous years volume. Plus with the bankruptcy of Hertz, they must project they’re going to need to push massive discounts on these in coming years so they’re padding the price accordingly.
It might be great tactic to see "$20,000 OFF" on the side of them on dealer lots in the future and think you got the deal of the day walking out at $60k.
Very concise, articulate review. Well done. I’m really looking forward to the diesel review in Q4. I’m curious how the ride compares to the old live rear axle on the previous gen.
Things that I will change in a Suburban: Suburban badging near front door moved to behind the 2nd door and lifted up to just below the window level. It enhances visibility when the vehicle is on the move in traffic(Who see the logo at its present location, except when the vehicle is parked). DRL light design integrated into Head light to increase overall good look and making width of the Head lamp line and front grill equal so that it looks one piece. That also enhances good look. Inside, center console will be placed in the Dashboard and not like sticking to dashboard as it is now. Black plastic mould around the bottom of the vehicle is removed, side step is ok but others are not. A chrome strip on doors as body paint gurad will look good. Ivory colour leather interior and music system with Sub-woofer. Not sure if the present vehicle has Sub-woofer... no seems to speak about it, though people said it has 10 Bose speakers.
I have a 2016 suburban and I’d just like to tell you, at 6’2 I can’t fit into the back row unless I am in the middle where I can extend my legs into the pass through
While improved, in comparing reviews the Expedition seats look more comfortable in the 3rd row than the Suburban. Every review I've watched on the Suburban the seat looks like it sits too low forcing your knees to sit higher. Also, I read the Suburban 3rd row doesn't recline. If so, that makes it even less comfortable. The Expedition second row slide seat is much easier to use and get into the back of the Expedition than the Suburban. What if you have car seats? You can't fold the seat up?
I've been cycling around all the different reviews for full size SUVs looking for the best 3rd row seats. (bigger family, kids are all teens now) It looks like even the Escalade's 3rd row isn't as spacious as the Expedition's. The GM 3rd row with the slanted pillar gives it less window space & therefore more claustrophobic. So it's either an Expedition or an actual full size passenger van for me..
So happy with the improvements Chevrolet has made with the new Suburban, especially the interior space. The interior is much nicer than the new Silverado and Sierra (To be fair, the pickups are due for interior updates next year.) and I also like the interior's inspiration taken from the C8 Corvette, right down to the user interface screen and the instrument panel design. Though.. the push button shifter will take some time getting used to.
I have a 2018 1500 LT burb. The storage on the sides of the door isn’t new nor on the transmission. I really wish they would’ve kept the front storage behind the screen.
Can someone tell me how it looks like with driving licence categories in USA? Because in EU we have cat B up to 3.5 tones, than you have to have cat C to drive something up to 7.5 tones. But in USA you have a lot of trucks over 3.5 . You need to have some special cat for it?
Don’t know what you mean by Cat but here in the USA anybody that has a drivers license can drive any passenger car or truck, a class A drivers license is a special license to drive big tractor trailer trucks and or buses and large commercial vehicles, class M is a motor cycle license and class c license is being able to drive anything under 26000 pounds
Excellent review. When do you post the comparison video with the Ford Expedition MAX? Can you post a table comparing the dimensions between these two large beasts? Thanks 🙏
Honestly, what I don't like about these vehicles in general is how their windows are getting smaller and smaller. Would be nice to compare how window height has evolved during the last 5 models for example. Vision suffers big time. Soon they will look like chopped cars.
Nice video, but just a few things: 1. the payload is only 1470lb, very disappointed. 2. don't store candy bars in car, it gets super hot in summer, and will go bad quickly. 3. lots of reviews of the highest trim level, but it's obviously not the exact one that most people buy.
Really nice car. I'm not sure about the running lights, but all in all, good car. I also like the difference between Chevy, GMC and Yukon. And also the difference between the standard Yukon, and the Denali. GM is doing a lot of things right these days(if not everything), and not only with the trucks. The only thing that's heartbreaking, is that they're ending the production of the Camaro. But that's another discussion.

Suburban for me; Tahoe for my wife.

Escalade :)
Levi Thomson or wait and purchase the 2021 Toyota Sienna that’s just been announced and is the best minivan of all time
They're all pushing $80k now sooooo...... GLS
I don't need it, can't afford it and yet still watched the review.

I won't buy a new car unless it has SSC. (Skittles Storage Compartment)
Make sure you've got some breath mints in that cubby for reasons that will reveal themselves after thinking about it for a bit.

You’ll need a different area code to talk to the passengers.
I can confirm this is true, drove one and had to pass messages back to guys in the back through the guys in the second row when the radio was on...needs an intercom 😂
that would be cool if GM started installing a built in radio for the front row passengers to communicate with the 3rd row passenger lol
For 2021, honestly, all lights on vehicles nowadays should be all led and hid. Incondencent lights are unacceptable imo
Where is that information, I cant find it. Maybe the Highcountry has LED and not other trims? All pictures online show LED's that I can find
Very good review of Edmunds! 🍻 cheers!

@Jonathan Losito Had two of them -- a diesel and a V10. The diesel had LOTS of mechanical issues and the V10 would pass anything but a gas station.
Carlos, your on-air delivery is waay smoother than GM's MagneRide! Thank you for a very informative review of the new Chevy Suburban.
Beautiful! Excellent looking interior!
Wow amazing review. I wish all car reviews were this good.
Wireless Carplay is actually much more useful than wireless charging. Awesome
@Jim Russell Friesen

GM made drive and reverse pull so that you don’t accidentally put it in reverse when you meant park. You get use to it real fast.
Always loved the Suburban....can’t afford it, definitely loved the review
That shifter is a mess. The old PRNDL stalk works and is superior.
Ugh, I know! SOOO hard to use... BUTTONS!! Insane!! Geez, it’s 2020. It’s fine.
It will be missed 🥺

Such a salesman. What a presentation Sir. Great job brother!

Best review I’ve seen from Edmunds in a while, and best overall for this new generation of GM SUVs. Great work on delivering your impressions.
Just got the High Country Suburban 15 days ago with a Tahoe as well! Both are excellent vehicles!

Very concise, articulate review. Well done. I’m really looking forward to the diesel review in Q4. I’m curious how the ride compares to the old live rear axle on the previous gen.
The new IRS rear is so plush. When compared to Expedition, these are pivoted at 3 points rather than 2 making it far more superior.
Sammy Duran GM has pulled out all the stops and knocked it out of the park with this one.

Also would a used Lincoln Navigator make sense? Is it’s tech outdated?
Better review than DogDeMuro. The dude is very charming.
Can the head up display be disabled?
Why wouldn't you show the cargo space behind the 3rd row?
Why did GM decide the only way to get the 6.2 is in the top of the line models? You only get a measly 5.3 otherwise.
