I bought a Black Hammer right after seeing this review. Thanks Max. Now that I've had it for the past 5 months I have been able to get to know it's limits and capabilities. The boost works great. It tends to distort the origional tone. The chorus sounds awesome. The delay sounds awesome. The high gain distortion is okay, but I don't use it. I use my Boss Metal Zone and my DOD 7 band EQ into my sonicake pedal to the front of my amp. I love my rig.
These are your basic “go to” effects for any rock player! Sure, people will use wah, maybe some flange or phase or tremolo once in awhile, but not as often as those main 4! Perfect!
For those of you interested, that Blackstar ID TVP head is killer. I run it through a closed back 4x12 cab. I've rehearsed and gigged with it for years. It's never let me down. I can create nearly anyone's tone with it. Perfect for cover band guitarist, but get the multi button footswitch for it
I bought the Wolf guitar for my son after seeing your video review. He loves it. Now I will have to buy this go along with it. Thank you for your reviews. We are always watching to see what we might like to get next.
Had been looking at this pedal for a while. Didn't know if was worth the money. Thanks for doing this video. Helped me make up my mind. Just ordered it, thanks Max! You rock! :)
Excellent review thanks.Literally stumbled across these pedals on eBay today.Already thinking of having a black hammer and rockstage on my jam/open mic/rehearsal pedalboard because they just seem so small and convenient.I was looking at a cheapy board of Donner nanos I could just grab and go rather than my main board but these are gamechangers 👍
You inspired me to purchase this pedal Max (arrived about 8-10 days ago)- first I've jammed on in YEARS (I'd used the on - amp cleans n overdrive channels & effects) and it's been fun 🤘 Keep up the reviews and congratulations on 100k !
I really love the overdrive side of the ibanez jemini, pan delay, reverb and a bit of a phaser if I'm feeling adventurous...... Plugged into a crunch channel of an amp.
Great review! I have the Sonicake Rockstage which is equally as cool. It’s pure 80’s rock tone in a tight package with a bonus cab simulator switch!! 🤘😎
Wonderful playing, Max. You made me buy one and it is very nice. Like most of what you need without all the cords and cables. The adjustment and range of the effects is outstanding. Switches decent, too. Very nice and a bargain. Thanks, Max.
Thanks Charles! Depending on the style of Chorus / Flanger, for my taste they can be somewhat interchangeable. I like the sound of the Chorus in this pedal. Nice, but not to washy sounding, imo. Rock on!!
Great review as always Max, like many people in the comments I already have these effects on my Boss GT6 pedalboard but it's big / bulky & heavy so this appeals to me due to it's compact nature & light weight & I've just ordered mine through ebay so thanks for the link Max :-) PS: I hope your arms feeling much better now, that's a horrendous injury for a guitar player...
This pedal would probably match very well to a Boss Katana which has a proprietary clean channel. The Katana is already a very good amp with built in effects and sounds fantastic. I love mine.
It really is 4 Pedals in one! This is the best pedal! It makes my clean Bugera Tube amp rock or do metal!!! Not quiet all Dejent, but almost! It actually is usable across all tones. All dials adjustments are usable to about 93-97% of the dial then it gets clippy choppy but at the very end (last 3%). Sounds very good, not solid state muted or dead. Max shows a very small amount of what this pedal does but very accurate! The pedal can do Blues to Rock To Metal, it doesn't clip out on Punk or D-metal it almost can Djent. The auto noise reduction makes it clear, Boost, the Chorus, Gain Delay dials are firm and super easy to use. Hope this helps.
I ordered for x-mas the sonicake rockstage, and it's awesome. Distortion, Chorus, delay and reverb in one tiny and affordable pedal. Very well built and durable. Have to order a booster, but it was $25usd. So I guess I haver an alternative to my boss me-70. All your videos are awesome Max, cheers.
Re: the question you asked at the end, I would imagine a flanger could come in handy if you wanted to get an EVH tone. But maybe the flanger would be more useful than the chorus in their RockStage device. It seems to be directed more toward the 70's rock crowd- Reverb, delay, flanger, and Marshall style distortion would work for me.
A similar pedal that costs about the same is the Mosky Red Fox or the Amoon DTC which is cheaper rebrand of it. It's a distortion, overdrive, delay, and a looper in one pedal. It even has an FX loop so you can put some effects in between. Another cool one that has a similar concept and is the same price is the Mosky Tone bus. It's a two overdrives, a compressor, and an eight output power supply.
Trying so hard to not to sound like a hard sell. But DEFINITELY GET ONE! LOL... It's indeed a nice pedal. By the way, this is Richard from Sonicake. Hi, Jeff, nice to meet you : )
I run ABY to a Peavey Bandit transtube using that at 10% resonance and presence on and the second amp is a CRATE gt212. I footswitch the crate for higher gain stages there because the Peavey can break up nicely on it's own. I'm pretty sure this pedal and the Compressor I already use would be the perfect group for me.
hey, great review man. my ideal would probably be distortion (preferrably british style), compression, chorus, and octave. but thats just me! i keep it pretty subtle, but i dug what you did in this review, sorta skewed me toward pickin up the black hammer. i just grabbed the shark because i dug the tone, but i might like to also have this. thanks a bunch, cheers. happy new year.
I just got mine on ebay directly from the sonicake store around $70 us dollars, free shipping! PERFECT for classic rock, metal and just fooling around! Remember, amp clean settings are a must. Hope you have fun!
I purchased one (New) after your intro about it on a previous video. Paid $56 shipped (eBay). I couldn’t wait for your review :D. Great video as usual !!!
I have the high 3 in 1 high gain pedal from Donner , delay, chorus, high gain distortion and i love it, i bought an eq to boost the mids its awsome and reliable its on my pedal board and i gig with it !
That's a nice little pedal except for the distortion. Like almost all of those High Gain distortion pedals this one sounds really sweet on the top end and nasty and Buzzy on the bottom end. Thanks for the demo
Things just get better all the time! Looks like I’m a fool not to get one of these pedals. Those are really my main effects that I use. Unreal. Thanx Max
Love it! Great review. I need one of those. Essential effects for the rock tone. I use a tube screamer, boss chorus, memory toy and sometimes a tremolo, wah, and volume pedal to get any sound I want. And I'm not a shred style guitarist by any means. But for blues, rock and jazzy type jam stuff those pedals work fine with my Strat run through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. Thanks for posting another good one.
I like the idea of this pedal (reminds me of an old Ibanez/Maxon multieffect pedal that I had years ago) but the distortion sound of it is not my cup of tea. But I am not sure that it is the pedals fault or I just prefer passive pickups. I would love a variation of this with a lower gain distortion and a tubescreamer-like boost in it.
@@AD1978leo They are nice guitars, especially for the price. The stock pups aren't bad, but throw a set of Blackouts in it and that is one cookin guitar.

For those of you guys struggling to find this pedal, I highly recommend checking out some chinese branded pedals because most of the time they use the exact same mold for these pedals and change the effects frequently, one brand I remember seeing is Mosky who does three pedals instead of four but does retain the mold of this pedal as well.
Nice concise review. have you tried the sonicake twiggy blues? I think I could do without the chorus, not a big fan, and not super high gain. But the twiggy has overdrive, reverb, compressor delay AND cab sims I believe. Shame they dont put in an effects loop, like the Moskey 4 in 1, which you can add a pedal before delay, but after overdrive.

Is it possible to add another pedal(looper) to end of the chain? I checked out the sight and found another 4-in-1 model which was a little less, both are very cool. Thanks, Max!
Max that is close to my setup. I dont have the boost or a noise control. Plus I have the delay before the chorus. Might have to switch them. But for $70 buck that not a bad setup. Its great if that all you need. You gear can fit right in the gig or case. Less to care around. I'll have to check out the links. Thanks for another great gear demo and video.

You make everything sound great. I'd have to try it for myself. I'm skeptical about cheap pedals. Especially ones that do more than one thing at a time. Cheap guitars can sound great through nice pedals and amp, but not the other way around IMO. However, you made it sound appealing.
Saw 1 of these on another channel a while back. Great thing, just grab 1 pedal n go n it could even fit in at least some guitar cases. Only thing I'd wanna add in there is some reverb n a chromatic tuner.
Have you tried running the output from the unit into the effects return(only) on your amp? I wonder how much better it may sound. Because of using the amp heads power section, it can give total tone/volume control strictly from the pedal. Of course if you hit bypass the amps basically wide open. But heck, you know all that. Keep up with your great content.
They nailed the line up. I’d maybe just broaden the chorus to a modulation that allows a flanger or my fav a phaser sounds 😈 ??? How does it compare to the Moore black truck multi pedal maybe a shoot out ??
