Could have been manufacturing defect pallet or something, bad quality insulation, off-size wire, recalled product. Or maybe some kind of liquidation auction, salvaged dumpster find, abandoned leftovers from a business. Maybe some standard operating procedure, someone needs the bare wire for winding stators or something but it's better to keep it insulated until then to limit oxidation?

Something I've built has some elements from a few of these. I really like the simplicity of the basic sharpened groove straight tool, maybe offset at whatever angle is most comfortable for the user, but overall a safe method if using both hands, the flexibility of the saw blade giving good tension feedback. Some of the designs with the spring and the full length of the blade are foolish, if you are doing something like this with your hands the last thing you would want is an exposed razor slicing your fingers, feeding those mechanisms will teach you quickly. The larger gage wires they are cutting in many segments are very easy to do with a basic knife, use a rubber band or 2 to bind the handle of a pair of pliers, open them to bite one end of wire, step on the pliers and rake a knife or even just a sharpened piece of metal along the length of the wire, it will destroy the coating enough to pull the wire out. You don't need a box or rig for those sizes. That being said, many of these designs have no adjustment dials or very few options for the amount of effort making them. Maybe clever, but the tools where you are fighting your own other arm are poor choices. You will tire very quickly if output is your goal. Being able to pull through a fixed point with both arms, maybe even your back like a rowing motion is a far superior use of energy. The old shaving blade was interesting, like most things the simplest approach is likely adequate. I don't know if those are replacement blades or need resharpening, I haven't seen one in ages but essentially the same method of dragging a knife along the coating (pull sideways, not toward your body).
I have a V-cut roller on a bearing with an adjustable blade from the top, blade has a guard through the knife edge to limit cutting point exposure and add stability, block fixed to the top panel with a threaded rod to the side panel for centering fine adjustment. As is my rig uses one hand to feed start and then hold the box and the other to pull the wire. It's a small 8"x8" I can work while I watch videos online. As it evolves I'll experiment with the RPM stable enough to pull wire off a small motor and maybe incorporate some of these guidance methods with the eye screws onto some flaps on hinges with a locking pin.

    Good ideas:)
However at the beginning, I wouldn't AT ALL condone operating an angle grinder moving toward an ungarded hand holding the work, (esp. when so close as it appeared to me in the vid). Something might slip, colide into that bare naked hand and OWeeee! "Dang that HURT!" could quite painfully result. Some kind of clamp or vice would be a lot better to grip hold the work, while cutting away on it.
Safety should should be uppermost in mind when ever operating power tools, is what my book declares.
Again good ideas though:) what with the multiple different methods you'd intelligently devised. Think it's always good to have more than one way to strip wire, as only one method may not always work on some, certain kind of insulated wires, well....at least not as efficient so.

SAFETY PLEASE on build 6 you drilled a hole through a utility knife with the blade extended. If the drill had binded when you were drilling the knife would have spun around cutting through your fingers. At the very least the blade should have been retracted and really the utility knife should have been clamped in a vice before drilling.

I quit watching after #15 , the first one. Try stripping some heaver wire or maybe some wire with some sharp kinks. See how far you get. Anybody can strip small perfectly straight wire and you don't need to spend half an hour making some kind of fancy knife either. How dumb! A simple pocket knife will work just fine or any sharp kitchen knife. This is a TOTAL WASTE of time to even begin watching this.

Method 14, 13 and others similar are weak, they will only work for brand new straight wires (in the case of a bent wire, the bending will cause the blade to cut into the copper and either break the wire or break the blade, and even if not, it will become dull and they will have to be replaced, in method 14 you can't even break off the section because the knife will be too short and you will have to drill and attach a new blade (more fun with replacing than with peeling the wires), these solutions still work for stranded wires, but they are not there may be wires after disassembly because dirt such as dust, sand and cement will quickly blunt the blades. Method 6 is a total misunderstanding, the idea of crushing the wire is absolutely right (it only works with wire), but the quality of the machine and the crank drive are a comedy.
And the last method using a concrete mixer is a joke, who peels brand new cable discs that can be sold as a whole several times more expensive than the obtained copper???
Wouldn't it be easier to buy copper rods and pipes in a store and take them from the store to a scrap yard? :P
